Day 24

The idea of perception was discussed in Oedipus in regards to many characters. The YouTube video of Britain's Got Talent and Susan Boyle indicates another example of people's perceptions that may or may not be correct. Please read the following quote and tell what you think it is saying. How does it relate to Oedipus, Susan Boyle and yourself? Is there a way that you as an individual and people as a group could ever stop the perceptions so that people get a fair shake?

THw quote relates to Oedipus in that he was the first to blame someone else on Lauis's murder. this would relate to Susan because the entire audiance was thinking this woman was crazy and was gonna suck, but she blew everyone away and everyones perceptions of her had changed. Now for me i really don't know what ot say, i guess its easyer for me to talk about other people but not about myself...wierd huh?. Anyway i think what the quote is saying is that if every one would be semi nice to other people instead of only thinking about themselfs for once and a while they might be a good person.

This quote relates to Oedipus because he blamed other people for Laius' murder. He didn't want to believe what Tyresius was saying so he was very quick to blame Creon. He had a perception of Tyresius and Creon that they were plotting against him. This would relate to Susan Boyle because when she came out on the stage the judges and the audience thought that she wasn't going to do good at all. Mostly because of her appearance. But also because of the way she talked and dressed. She was a very good singer and blew everyone away with her voice. This changed everyone's perceptions of her. As for me it is harder to talk about myself. I'm sure there are many different perceptions that other people have of me. I'm not sure what those would be but i know there are some. I am usually quiet during class unless there is someone I am friends with in that class. Some people probably percieve me of being quiet all the time. This definitaly isn't true. I think that the quote is saying that this world would have a lot more better people if everyone didn't have a lot of perceptions about people. Some perceptions aren't very nice or positive. These one's can hurt someone's feelings. If everyone stopped the perceptions everyone would get a fair shake. This means that everyone would have a fair life and wouldn't have to be worried about what other people think of them!

Ok to start of this quote relates to all of the fowlling people. It first relates to oedipus in the way that he was the first blammed for the killing of the old king and her father lauis. He didnt want to believe the orcale was true and that he thaught his real parents were actully his adopted parents. This relates to susan in a way that everbody thaught she was going to do bad since of the the way she looked and forget where she lived. Then the actuall outcome differed and she happened to become as like a superstar and now everybody wants to have her on their show for an interview. And now me and my perceptions. Going into lax season this year i thought of myself as an under dog into witch of my size sature. It end to turn out that i made varsity and started into i tore my hamstring and that is the situation im in now. Now im almost fully recovered and still looked as the best to the players decision.

This quote can be connected to Oedipus, when he was blaming others for Laius's murder. The youtube video related to this because the judges started off very biased. They didn't believe someone older, less attractive, etc. could be a good singer. Obviously, none of these things have anything to do with your singing voice. The judges came back to reality and realized this when she sang very well, and realized that they had been cynical. I think it says a lot about the culture different between Britain and the United States. If it was American Idol, I don't think she would have even been allowed to perform in the first place. I don't think there is any singular thing people can do to stop judgement of people like this. However, these things gradually become less and less acceptable in what is called the "moral zeitgeist". An example of this is how normal racism was only 50 years ago, it's gradually becoming better. The public's opinion takes a long time to change, but usually goes in the right direction.

The Quote relates to everyone Oedipus, Susan Boyle and i think me. For susan, everyone in the audiance thought she was going to be bad. people were even rolling theres eyes and the judges didnt knw what to expect either. The judged her on her looks and that she wasnt very bright becasue she couldnt think of the word "village" but i think she was nervous. Oedipus he was the first to blame other people for Laius murder. aND for me, im not too sure what i should say. But theres many people that might think ima a shy quite girl. Thats only true if u dont know me. Im usually alwasy happy and have a smile on my face n laughing. If u get to know me n not shy o quite. so i think the quote means that you shouldnt judge people on looks or just becasue they act the way they do.

The quote relates to all of these people. The quote relates to Oedipus because when Tireisiouse was telling Oedipus that he killed Lauis. Oedipus was like your blind and can’t see how would you know? He was making a judgment that Tireasouis doesn’t know anything because he is blind. Susan Boyle relates to the quote because he was a recipient of people making judgments about her. People took a look at her and listened to her answer a few question. This led to people thinking she was going to be a terrible singer. I can relate to this quote in two different ways. I’m sure people make judgments about me. I make judgments about people some of the time even though it’s probably not a good thing. I find that it will be almost impossible for everyone to get a fair shake all the time. People will always have opinions and there is nothing you can do to take away there opinions.

the quote relates to both, because naturally as humans we are flawed. be it physically or some other way. we are biased to think a certain way, and sometimes that is societie's fault. i dont think there is any way we could ever stop that. mainly because people are constantly self editing. meaning they always judge what they should do based on their environment. so no. ill be a pessimist here and say it is damn near impossible for people to ever change that.

In the story of oedipus, he percieved teiresias as being a great wise man at first, then came to think of him as a fool and a crazy old man. Oedipus' perception of creon was that he was trying to become king. On Britain's Got Talent, the judges and all the audience members thought that susan was going to be a horrible singer. They saw that she was not pretty, and that she couldnt think of simple words, and they judged her. Susan started singing, though, and everybody loved her. Simon wouldn't admit his perceptions, though, and he had to act like he knew what was up. As for the quote, it is just talking about how people instantly, with or without realizing it, make an assessment of the people they meet and think they know what this person is all about. Since the quote is a question, which doesn't make it much of a quote, that and the lack of quotation marks, I will give an answer as well. In order to cut out the perceptions, you have to cut off the senses. Put on a blindfold and talk to the person, and after a little conversing, take off the blindfold.

In my opinion i dont think peple can get a fair shake. Even in class we are like it. I no we are fooling around but think about it. We dont say how he solved the riddle we just talk about how he was sleeping with his mother. People want to just talk about the worst thing and point out flaws and not good things. Even i have to admit right when i saw susan i was laughing. I was ready to start making fun of her to laugh and say how bad she was. Its just poepl think differntly about stuff like that. I personaly dont think this will ever cahnge.

Perception is a big part of how people judge you. First impressions are everything. I don't think people as a whole can set aside people's perceptions to give people a fair shake. Susan Boyle was at first not given a fair shake. Everyone looked a t her and thought, OMG! As soon as she oped her mouth to sing everyone's mouth dropped! She was amazing! She got a standing ovation! She blew their minds! That happens to everyone, in Oedipus and even me. There have been times when people perceptions og me were totally wrong! Once again, I believe We will never be able to get rid of the way people percieve others.

The quote is saying to stop judging someone by the way they look but by the way they do something. Every person should get an equal chance at doing something without being judged. I believe this relates to Oedipus by people judging him about having the prophecy of killing his father and marrying his mother. Its not like he had any idea of having these come true but people are still going to judge him poorly. It also relates to The video on youtube because the lady that was going to perform had a hard time coming up with some answers to some of their questions and also about they way she looked. The judges started judging her even before she started singing and that's not even fair. The quote effects me because peoples perception on me is that I am a bad kid and I am really not. I get most of my work done and I'm not saying I am the best kid but I am a good behaving person and I don't get into trouble. So I believe peoples perception should not be based on somebodies image.

What quote? I don't see a quote in your original post, Mr. Kay.

I don't see any quote, either. I'm guessing it's the question that begins with 'Is there a way...'

It relates to Oedipus in that he was the very first one to blame someone else for the murder of Laius; he didn't even take into consideration that he MAY have done it, he just thought the blind man was crazy. It relates to Susan Boyle because everyone watching perceived her to be a silly, talentless woman (like more than half of the American Idol auditions) until she gave that mindblowing performance. It relates to me in that I judge people all the time without even getting to know them first. Faulty, yes, but I still do it. Oftentimes I end up becoming friends with people that I have misjudged also. Perceptions are evil, I think. People base their decisions and judgments off of bias and morality, but these opinions are often ill perceived. Learn some sleight of hand, people.

i also dont be seeing any qoutes. but from the first sentence i be sayin that the quotes is saying not to judge someone by the way they look. intead they should judge em by the talent they be gotting. er person should be allowed to do something without being judge. also the qoute can be connected when oedipus was blaming others for the death of his father laius. the video is related to oedipus cuz the judges starte in the basics of how they be looking abd when the guy is blind. The quote effects me because peoples perception on me is that I am a different kid than wat i am.

The quote can be related to both Oedipus and Susan Boyle. The quote relates to Oedipus mainly because he was set on finding blame in another individual for Lauis' murder. This could also relate to Susan Boyle because when she first got on stage, all the audience took a look at her and just judged her on what they saw on the outside without even giving her a chance to show what she was capable of, until she sang and the audience realized that they had judged too quickly. For me, I definatly do judge people at first glance and that is one of my downfalls that I have to get rid of. I believe that the quote is trying to say that people need to stop judging other because there is always something good about someone and you can't see t t first glance and it might take awhile before you see the way people are.

i think that no here isnt a way for people to basically stop judging others. tereare just too many people out there and so many of them are basically just assholes and if you dont look like your up to speed at somthing then you cant even have a stab at it. this is just like the britains got talent show. they all started laughing at this lady and what do you know, she was an amazing singer. this is just like other things in life. like when obama first said he wanted to run for president many people thought wow, what a joke. but he ended up becoming president. im not really sure how this relates to oedipus so im sorry i cant answer that question. so this is somthign that will never be put to a halt.
