Day 14

Today you will watch the following video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Glny4jSciVI

This is a video remake from 25 years ago which can be found at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ne7fPpxAnuM

What is the purpose of these type of videos from our friends in Hollywood? Is it appropriate that these people get involved in political statements? Why or why not? Also, why did it take 25 years to remake this video as we have had many shattering events in the last 25 years? What is it about the earthquake in Haiti or famine in Africa that gets to us? Lastly, does this type of video get you to want to be more invested in these causes? Why or why not?

These types of videos to me brainwash people into doing good for others. Because we live in a time where everything is moving a million miles an hour, we need these reminders to get people motivated to help. I think it is importent to get involved to some degree because most Americans watch tv and are familier with what goes on and with 10 million views this video has been seen before and people must have talked about it. I cant explain why it took 25 years to make a new video because well quite frankly there are so many conclusions you could come up with. Yes this type of video wants me to get out and help. Honestly i wanted to go on that Habbitat for Humannity trip with you but money issues were the problem. If i get a chance to do something like that again im going to take it.

To me, the video is about peace and coexistence. I think the video is saying that we are all going to deal with tragedies in our life and we need to stick together and help each other out in order to get through it. With that being said, I do not think it is appropriate for these people to get involved in a political statement. They can choose to take either side of a political argument because it is their opinions. Opinions are not a smart way to your message across because many people can and will disagree with you. Also, I think it took so long to make this video simply for the fact that no one had the idea to remake it until now. In the past there has been for more worse tragedies in the 25 year hiatus of this video clip. They were much more deserving also. I think the tragedy in Haiti and the famine in Africa gets to us because we take everything we have for granted until it's taken away. It's funny how we think our lives suck and we flip out on tiny details while there are people in Africa and Haiti who would kill to have even a fraction of what we got. Lastly, this video does not make me wanted to get invested in these causes because quite frankly, I don't really care much about it. The only things I do care about are things that directly impact me or my family. I know I should care more and trust me, I have tried to care more, but, I just quit caring about these things after awhile. It get's old having to relive through the same tragedies day after day on the news.

This video shows that everybody getting together for one cause to help out people can be lifting to peoples spirits. This video was probably made 25 years later because the situation in haiti is very broad in who is all helping the city. All the different country's and the different people coming together makes the situation seem more drastic and more important because it effects so many around the world. I think the famine in africa and the haiti situation get to us more because of the more sudden impact to people over there. The great number of deaths and the amazing rescues that have been made probably make us see those things as more important. A video like this does make me want to get involved more. It makes me feel bad for all those who lost loved ones and homes and things like that. It makes me want to donate more than i would if i just heard about it because to me it makes the situation seem more dramatic and shows the true pain that is going on with the people.

The purpose of this video is so people unite and try to help out in anyway we can. People in Hollywood unite as a group to help others in need. They feel that their message will be heard because they have a way of reaching out to people across the world. I think it's appropriate for the people in Hollywood to get involved. Every person has a constituional right to voice the issues that are important to them; and these issues are important to the people of Hollywood. I think it took 25 years to remake this video as a tribute to Michael Jackson. The earthquake in Haiti and famine in Africa are issues that need addressing now and I believe that the people of Hollywood are reaching out to other people to help these causes through a video that touches your heart. The earthquake in Haiti and famine in Africa gets to us because we can see thru the media the suffering these people have had to go through. We see people that have just suffered thru a terrible tragedy and can identify with the needs of other human beings. Absolutely, this video makes me want to help in any cause that would help out a fellow human being. The reason these video's have made me want to help out these causes is seeing the devestation and the terrible things these people are going through. Letting other people know that you care is huge; these videos show that coming together as a group can make a difference and help the people of Haiti and Africa through terrible times. You never know when you are going to be that person in need.

I think the purpose of remaking the video is to keep people interested. Updatinga song like this with all the popular stars will make people listen more. I believe that they have the right to be involved in a political statement. Although in my opinon, it was more of an act of kindness to help people in need. I don't think that we have an excuse as to why it took so long for this remake. A lot of events have happened in the past, but other things have been done for those also. 9/11 has had movies, documentarys, memorials, etc on the tradgedy. I believe that the earthquake in Haiti was completely distroyed that it became chaos. Getting supplies there was also a huge task. Unlike hurricane katrina, we have to fly the equipment in to help these people. This video doesn't move me any more to get involved. I understand about the crisis that is happeneing, and I am informed. I don't feel the need to be bold as some women to try to kidnap the children.

I think this song's purpose was to get more people intrested in helping out their fellow man. A lot of people, especially younger people dont really care about the unequivicable tragedy that has happened to the people in Haiti. This song draws younger people in because of who is in it, but it emphesizes the point that we are all responsible for helping Haiti. And it is not even a question of weather these signers should be getting involved with these polotical statement because i shouldnt have a single thing to do with polotics. These are millions of lives that we are talking about and they have all been smashed apart by a tragic natural disaster. So this should have nothing to do with polotics, but rather with the natural bond we all have as people and the moral need to help a fellow man in desperate need. I think that its taken 25 years for hollywood to remake this video because, especially as American, we are quickly growing more and more apathetic to the issues in the world outside of what occurs in our little bubble. We need to relize that these people are in hell right now, and we owe it to them to do what ever our spoiled asses can to make their situation even a fraction better. We have become so invested in our lives that we dont relize, or for that matter, we dont care how absloutly dismal the lives of others may be. It takes the media rubbing these epic disasters in our faces for weeks for us to finally see that the rest of the world is suffering more than we could ever possibly even try to imagine. This type of tragedy really gets to us because it terrifies us. I mean, when Hurricane Katrina hit, America lost nearly 2,000 people and it devistated parts of our southern coast. But Haiti has lost nearly 200,000!!! and the numbers are still rising. Yes, you can argue that when Katrina happened nobody pitched in to help us out, but the situations are immensily different! I think that we are practically required to help the people of haiti out however we can. This video didnt really make me more invested in the cause because i was already concerend with the issue anyways, but it did put a modern twist to how we get the news out...

the purpose of these videos are to bring awarness. They make these videos to get the word out about how you can help and make a difference in the world. I think its very appropriate that they get involved. People are more likely to listen to celebraties then just listing to your average joe. It gives Hollywood a little more credablity. I think it took 25 years to make a new video because they waited for tragedies to build up. When you combine all the bad things it makes it more nesscary to make a new video. I think that part of it that gets to us about Haiti and Africa is that its nothing we can control. A lot of people can barely support there family let alone someone else in another country. Yes, this video does make me want to get invested in these causes. Mostly, becuase it makes it so real. Its right in my face and its something i cant just push out and not think about.

These types of videos are made to inspire people to help in whatever struggles or hardships are taking place. I think it is very important for these people toget involved in political statements. I say this because people, young and old, look up to people like this, and if these people want to help out then maybe it could inspire others to do the same. I think it took so many years to remake this video because they weren't sure whether to remake it or not. It takes a lot of money to do something like this, so maybe money was an issue as well. I think it's the fact that stuff like what happened in Haiti can happen to anybody. Anybody on this planet could loose their home because of an earthquake. I believe it is also heartbreaking for most people to see little children that are homeless. Truthly, yes it does make me want to get more involved in causes like these. I see all these famous people, and hear them sing, and I understand what they're trying to say in these lyrics. It's encouraging and it makes me really want to help the people that have suffered in Haiti.

I think the purpose is to help us see whats really going on. Music is a big part of everyone's life. So showing whats going on in Haiti's through music makes people more aware of the cause. I think its appropriate that celebrity's get involved in politics because people really look up to them. Celebrity's are all over the news and in the music and people really look up to them. I'm not quite sure why we waited so long to remake this video. I don't think it has anything to do with what happened. I;m just thinking that it went good with the situation. For me The earthquake in Haiti's and famine in Africa gets to me because their government cant do anything to help them. But we can spare a little bit of money to help the ones who are really in need. Yes, this video makes me want to help more with these causes because it really helps me realize that they need all the help they can get. And were all suppose to help each other when in need, no matter what conflicts we have with one another.

!!!!!!TAYLOR SWIFT IS SO HOTT!!!!!! said...

The porpuse of these videos is to get people involved in causes. If celebs look like they are contributing to the chase it will make others want to be like them and contribut. I think it is important bcause it shows that even the most selfish egotistic people can give to charities. I think that this has taken 25 years becuase haiti has a a really big natural disaster. I would think that they would have done one for Katrina but it would be wrong cuz it's not for another contry. We did it for Haiti becuase they are a country that is weak and needs us as an allie. These things get to us beuase we are the greastest country in the world. We are so great that we loom to help others becuase we want them to have what we have. If we were everin a state like Haiti then we would want someone to help us. This video just wants me to sing the song not reall become more invest.

The purpose of these videos is to spread the idea of hope. It is also to raise money for causes like Africa 25 years ago, and now the Haitian people effected in the earth quake. Personally i think that people who sing should stick to singing not political affairs. However, I suppose this video was a nice thing for them to do. I do not understand why it took 25 years to remake this video. There have been a ton of other events that deserve this attention. Hurricane Katrina? 911? I feel like people forget about the pain within their own country much faster than the pain in other countries. In a way I sort of understand this because America is a stronger, better developed country than Haiti and Africa. This video is nice but it doesn't really do much to make me want to get invest in causes. OOOH they all got together and sang a little song. Big deal. I find this to be in a way, bullshit. These people make probably millions of dollars a year to do this. Now if all thesde supposedly caring and giving celebrities would get on a plane, fly to Haiti and actually help rescue people and clean up the destruction, then maybe I would want to get a little more involved. I just think that if celebrities actually cared they would be doing a hell of a lot more than singing together. If they actually cared they would stop blowing away their money on the ridiculously expensive finer things in life, and send their money to Haiti, not ask us hard working, economically strained Americans to send over the money we have.

the purpose of these vidoes are to show us whats going on in other countries and to show us were all of are tax is going.they are trying to get more help for these people through this music video. i really dont think they should do this, i mean using populaur singers to get to us they are using hollywood to get to our wallets and i dont mean to sound heartless but our economy sucks as it is the are homless people that served in wars. do u think vetrins deserve to be homeless? i dont i think we should focus on our country first there are billions of people in this world who can help Haiti it doesnt have to be us.

The purpose of these types of videos from people in Hollywood is to send the message that we need to think about more than just ourselves. They want us to get involved and do our part to help others in the world. I think it is appropriate for these people to get involved in political statements because they are the types of people that will get others' attention. Famous people are allowed to do what they can to help, and I think that this is one act of famous people that we should follow. I think it took 25 years to remake this video because we start getting accustomed to hearing about the problems in the world. It takes a major event such as the earthquake in Haiti to make people notice the degree of problems in the world. I think when we see images on the news of innocent peoples' lives shattered, we take notice and want to reach out. I think this type of video slightly makes me want to be more invested in these causes. The images on the news and stories I hear on the radio more so make me want to become involved, just because I can see the hurt and problems of those in need. When I'm watching a music video of a bunch of celebrities, I'm moved a little by the song, but past buying the song I wouldn't do much to help if it's all I saw. If they played the song and showed images of people in need and how people are helping, I think it would be more powerful.

The purpose for these kind of videos is to show that the people that are in need aren't alone. Its important to let the world know that theirs a crisis and people are in need of our help. Thats were this kind of video comes into play. I agree that its also important for these people to get involved because it shows that even celebrities care for this tragic event. I think we finally put ourselves in their shoes We want to give out a helping hand and show that our country isn't selfish. People need to realize that this people are the same as us. Were human beings just like they are. We need to let them know that their not just some country that needs help. Video or not this horrible event gets to me because I'm one of those people that always looks from their perspective.

Andrew Melton said...

The purspose of these types of videos dont with people from hollywood, are to make people want to help and donate more, and so that people know that they, the celebraties, are also doing things like donating their help and time to try and get aid for the people of Haiti. It is definetly appropriate that people like this get involved in political statements, because they are near the top of the class, and they can cause a bigger impact, other than people like us who are just living in regular neightborhoods making average or slightly above average income. Celebraties have a bigger voice when it comes to affecting peoplitical statements. The reason i think it took 25 years to create a remake of this video is because there are people from all over the world lending Haiti a hand, instead of one country trying to regain itself after a shattering earthquake that destroyed nearly its entire city. I think that its the fact that everyone is human, when it comes to famine in Africa or the earthquake in Haiti that gets to us. Because no matter what, if America, or Americans in general, get the chance to help a person up off the ground and dust them off, and get them going again, theyll take it because Americans and American in general is full of good people who will lend a hand, and help anyone. This type of video does get to me because it shows the real effects of people, and how theyre adapting and trying to survive to what has happened to them. An example would be in the new we are the world video, it shows Haiti's people making little shelters out of tarps and sticks.

The purpose of the videos are to unite people together. Both songs have many different people in them singing together for a cause. I have mixed feeling whether they should have a political statement in their song. First I think it is inappropriate for these people to put do that because they are just trying to brainwash people. Also because there isn't a need to put their opinion in this song. At the same time I feel that it is appropriate. I think that because we are in American and they have the right to. Second is because it helps draw in people that have to same opinion and it might motivate others to join their cause.

these types of vidoes brainwash people to do good. i think that these kinds of videos can be helpful, but people should be able to do good things for people without having to watch a video. there is always so much going on in the world, and sometimes people forget how much other people around the world need help and how fortunate we are to be able to live in the place we do, so a video can as well be a good reminder. I think there is both pro and con when it comes to videos like these. Seeing that it did take 25 years for people to reach out and remake a video is questioning. Why do people wait until a disaster like this, start to make any kind of movement towards helping and improving? The earth quake and famine really effects all us americans,ot as much as the people who are actually going through it, but in a different way. I think it gets to us because we really are able to think, what if that was us? and we like to help them out and put ourselves in thier shoes and i think we know we would want help,o its only right to help them as well. These types of videos do not get me interested in giving my money, not because the videos are bad, but because i would rather help by putting effort in using hard work, then just mailing out a check. The world is a place where terrible things are possible, but if we all come togetherr then we can make it.

Hannah Ledgley (: said...

these videos are made to co erse people into doing good, i personally think that people shouldn't have to have a celebrity do a commercial for people to gain some empathy and start to help. I think it is inaprpriate for celebrities to do these political statements because it can completley change peoples ideas just because they love that celebrity. Some people would jump off a cliff if beyonce told them to. I think that it is so hard for us americans to see haiti go through all this because we see that it could happen to us and if we were in that situation then we would want someone to reach out and help us too. i would much rather put out some actual effort then to just send a check, and thats the only reason i am not invested in the causee.

I feel like they make these videos to show regular people like us that they do care about whats going on in the world. I do think that is is important that they get involved in these types of things. Some people have so much money in Hollywood that I dont see how they couldnt donate towards people in Hati or other disaster areas. I feel like it took them 25 years to remake this video because people in the United States hear about bad things happening around the world every week. But, I feel like it takes a huge event such as what happened in Haiti to open our eyes to see how bad something are. This video does make me want to invest more into these causes. I feel like people in the United States are spoiled. We dont realize how good we have it here until we see what other people around the world have to live like.

I think the purpose is to get things known. To make issues like Haiti, or other tragedies public. To make people want to help those in need. And who knows why it took so long for the video to be remade, it had so many chances too. I think that Haiti and Africa get to us because when we hear or see things baout it, they show children and babies starving, or without grown ups to help and protect them. It hits your heart like a ton of bricks and makes you want to jump up and help because you dont want to see the children suffer. Yes, it does make me want to become more invested in things like this. I could be someone to make a difference for a whole group of people, or even a few people. Like, trying to end world hunger. I want to help those children in Africa live.

beattiex33 said...

In a crisis, like the one in Haiti, people try to help those in need as much as they can. The people in Hollywood, who are trying to help, send out a message in their own way. It is more effective when they incorporate something that they are good at. In this case, popular singers are trying to send the message that we need to help the people in Haiti, through song. I think that it is appropriate for these popular singers to be involved in a political statement because it now reaches out to all ages, not just those who are adults and are learning about these issues on the news. I think that it took 25 years to remake this song because we have to come up with different solutions o the issues so then people will be interested to donate time or money in helping society. These issues are so heartbreaking that people feel for them. We have such a privileged country, that it is hard to see people live like that. Helping them also makes people feel better about themselves and the cause. These videos do get to me because I want to help those people have a better life and get their lives back to where they were before the crisis.

These videos, to me, feel like they are just useless and trying to tell everyone to do good thingd. Because we live in a world where everything moves so fast nobody takes the time to realize that helping someone doesn't take that much work. I think it is very important to help out with anything you can. There are always ways you can help out the community. For example, i am going on the trip for Habitat for Humanity to help people rebuild their homes. I think that they made a new video because people need to see that things are still constantly ocurring. Yes this video makes me want to go out and help every chance i get. I am excited to go on the trip with you, i think it is going to be very fun. Whenever i get a chance to help someone i am going to take it.

I think the purpose of these videos are meant for geting people to help in a time of need. I am not sure why it took 25 years to remake this video. Yes, there has been a number of events that have hurt countries. There are many different reasons this was made. There might be a connection that i am not seeing. I think these to these get to us because we look at what we all have compared to what they have, that is near nothing. You also see all those famalies that are starving because they can't afford to buy food. Yes, this video does make me want to become more involved with these causes. You never know when somethind drastic like that might happen around here. We would want someone there to help us.

I think the purpose of these videos is to inluence more people to give. Its sad to say but we are greatly influenced by these types of people. The stars in holleywood have a great influence on us, thats why theyre used in commercials for products and these products pay them great amounts of money to endorse. I think it is appropriate to get them involved in political statements because if thats what is going to influence people to give to a cause like Haiti then then good, use it. Im not sure why it took 25 years to recreate this video. Maybe what happened in Haiti today and Africa 25 years ago was and is much worse than anything that happened it the time in between? Maybe a situation like the one in Haiti is one that really influences us more than others? i really couldnt say. In some ways this video does make me want to give and be more invested. But in others it doesnt because i dont want to just be invested in the cause because people from holleywood said i should.

In all honestly, I think it is publicity. All of these Actors and Actresses know that people are out there crying over the bad things that are happening in the world. Now, some of them may feel the same way. Even if they dont though, their publicist is saying show you care so the people will like you more. Its complete bullshit if you ask me. People have turned tragic events into publicity boosters. What kind of bs is that. There are people over in Haiti who have lost their entire family, and people here are making more money becuase of it. Obviously not all public figures do it for the money, but the fact that even some do is disgusting. I think, despite their suspected intentions, that they have just as much right as we do. They are allowed to voice their opinion. I would however caution that they watch what they say, becuase unfortunately, some people will listen to the popular or rich just because they are popular and rich. Honestly, I cant tell you why it took 25 years. Why wasnt it redone after 9/11? In all honestly I think it goes back to my earlier statement. By connecting it to this song, you reach probably three different generations. More money. Maybe im being pessimistic today, but its reality. This video definetly does not want to make me get more involved. When I watch it, all i see is the publicity stunt. Does that mean I wont get involved, no. But certainly not because of videos like these.
