Day 7

So, I hope you will take the opportunity to re-do the personal narrative. Think about what I said when making your changes and hopefully you will get an A. In case it snows, remember that we will meet by the doors of the cafeteria after first hour on Thursday. Remember to bring paper and pen.

For this evening, we shall be doing some current eventing (yes a new verb). Remember, as always, short summary with effect. No more than two people per event this evening. NO CITE, NO POINTS

I have herd of people taking pills to loose weight and work out. I have never herd of people swallowing parasite worms to loose weight. In Hong Kong, people are taking these weight loss products that contain potentially harmful parasites in them. These pills have parasite eggs in them that will hatch in the persons intestines once they take the supplement. These giant intestinal roundworms, can grow up to 15 inches in a persons intestines and lay up to 200,000 eggs a day. These parasites can cause abdominal pain, distension, vomiting, diarrhea and malnutrition. It is just sad that people will go to that exstream to loose weight. These worms are very dangerous to your health and it can cause you to be very sick. I care about my health and I want to be for my whole life. If one day I am not in shape I would never eat worms. I would have the right approach and make sure that I work out and eat healthy food.

For today's current event i found an article about cars accelerating on their own. A lot of people have to deal with this and they don't know what they are supost to do. Most freak out and get hurt. this article basically explains the right thing to do if you are put in this type of situation. Put the car in neutral, or in park, or switch off the ignition. But experts say those choices would be almost impossible for most drivers to consider when they're in a panic, because frightened people often can't remember even simple steps to protect themselves. That — coupled with increasingly complicated gadgetry — makes cars a dangerous place to be when you're facing an unexpected situation. I think this article is very helpful and important because people are put in this type of situation every single day, and they don't know what to do. It makes me feel more comfortable to know what i am suppost to do if this sort of thing happens to me while driving.

There are many health issues going on around the world. For my blog I would like to talk about how sugary soft drinks are linked to pancreatic cancer. People who drink two or more sweetened soft drinks a week have a much higher risk of pancreatic cancer, an unusual but deadly cancer. People who drank mostly fruit juice instead of sodas did not have the same risk, the study of 60,000 people in Singapore found. "The high levels of sugar in soft drinks may be increasing the level of insulin in the body, which we think contributes to pancreatic cancer cell growth," said Mark Pereira of the University of Minnesota. This study affects my community and myself. Personally, I don't drink any kind of pop. I just find it gross. However, my sister drinks a lot of it. I don't want my sister to get pancreatic cancer, so I will be telling her about this study. Also, tons of my friends drink pop. I wouldn't want anything bad happening to them. People should know more about the affects of pop, and people should cut down their drinking of pop.

I chose to do my current event on the child trafficking in Haiti. It was a terrible tragedy the Haitian people have suffered since the earthquake. Now Haitian children are at risk because they were orphaned or separated from their parents by the earthquake. The children of Haiti are more vulnerarble of being taken and sold into child slavery because they cannot protect themselves. The United States is working with the Haitian government to protect these children. We owe it to these children that have suffered enough to protect them. Another agency that is helping protect the children in Haiti is Unicef (the United Nations' Childrens Fund. I have seen on CNN the amount of people that have been displaced from the earthquake and it would be so easy for these children to be taken. This child trafficking effects all people of every nation; it is all of our responsbility that these children are protected. It bothers me that people take advantage of a bad situation and will hurt innocent children to benefit themselves. Tragedies bring out the best and worse in people. We need to step up and make sure these children are safe.

The economy has affected many people one way or another. Its gotten to the point were people are lucky to have a warm place to sleep and food on their table. If you go into Detroit or Pontiac or Flint you can see hundreds of homeless people. Its sad to see people who have nowere to live just wandering the often dangerous streets of these cities. In the last 6 months or so things have been somewhat looking up for Michigan. Home sales are increasing, people are buying american made cars, and there is hope that we can dig ourselves out of this hole. Its really sad what has happened to our economy. Hopefully it can get back on track so people can get jobs and homes and have a warm place to sleep.

When Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans Louisiana in August of 2005no one expected the city would recover. But two years after Hurricane Katrina hit, The New Orleans Saints re-opened the Superdome and greeted about 72,000 fans on a monday night football game September 25th, 2006 and beat a then 2-0 Atlanta Falcons team 23-3 in a dominate fashion. The game was electric as every fan was on their (see, i can tell the difference between their and there) feet and screaming. Ever since that game the city of New Orleans has really bounced back well. Now that things are finally starting to get back to normal there, The Saints brought home the first ever Super Bowl in their franchises' history. I think this is a heart warming story because before Hurricane Katrina the Saints used to be one of the worst football teams around and at one point was refered to as the "Aints" and to have go through so much adversery it makes you think that no matter what happens, anything is possible.

Today for my current event i chose Dearborn Chihuahua hoarder gets probation. The former Dearborn man who kept hundreds of live and dead Chihuahuas in filthy conditions in his home until last year was sentenced today to 5 years of probation in a mental health program and must pay $60,000 in restitution. The sentence had been expected as part of Kenneth Lang Jr.’s guilty plea to a single count of cruelty to 10 or more animals in Wayne County Circuit Court last month, although the specific restitution amount was not determined at the time. He was also ordered not to own animals. The mental health program will allow Lang to get treatment while under strict court supervision. The restitution will go to the City of Dearborn and the Dearborn Animal Shelter and Animal Defense Fund. This current pertains to the community, becuase there is some crazy people out there, and he is one of them. It is just plain cruel to keep hundreds of dogs to suffer and die in your home.

The United Nations warned Haiti that they will cut of shipments of medicine after finding out hospitals were charging the patients. About a dozen hospitals were found to be charging Haitian patients. The hospitals don't need to charge their patients to pay staff, because donation money covers those fees. The government has said to have no part in this, and had no idea of what was going on. I think that this is extremely selfish and inconsiderate of these hospitals. The citizens of Haiti have already been through enough, and don't have any money for medicine. Plus, the hospitals have seen what has been going on, and had experienced the earthquake, but still insisted on hurting people in their own country. This effects us because as a nation we have provided millions of dollars worth of medicine to Haiti, and if the hospitals charge people for the medicine, the donations are not being used how they were intended to be. The medicine was given for free to the people of Haiti, and by charging them it defeats the purpose of the donations. All the donations would be doing is providing for the hospitals, and making the situation worse for those who need medicine.

Alright, my current event hits close to home. I am going to discuss the snow storm that as I speak is flooding us with a gorgeous, white winter wonderland. However, although the snow is very beautiful, it can lead to extremely dangerous driving conditions. The weather radar predicts up to 10 inches of snow to hit Southeast Michigan. Districts across Michigan have already begun to cancel schools and activities for tonight and tomorrow. This snowfall has a major and direct impact on us, because every morning we each drag ourselves out of bed and drive to school. This dangerous storm could cause disaster and distress to all of us who have to drive in these horrible conditions tomorrow morning as well as later tonight. If we do have school tomorrow, it will truly prove to us how little the superintendents of our district care about our well being and safety. Thank you and drive safe everyone:] I hope to not see you tomorrow at school.

For example, we don't like to blog becuase there are other ways to get your thoughts out there, by cell phones, ipods, facebook/myspace, and other technology sorces. About 1 out of ten adults blog. It is the younger generation that has interests in othere departments. This has to do with us especially. We have to blog 4 out of 5 times a week and we tend to get sidetracted and lose interest on most bloggings.

For my current event I'm going to talk about the flight attendant that took down a passenger on a flight. This 51 year old mother is a black belt in taekwondo. She was working on a plane one day and a passenger tried to attack her. She used her training and put the passenger in a choke hold. Afterwards he was taken by the police and the flight continued on schedule. It seems like everyone is becoming more conscious of the issues that could happen aboard a plane. Being aware of our surroundings is important, especially on an airplane, and having trained people around us is a relieving benefit.

Tuesday with the forecaster telling the residents still reeling from a paralyzing weekend blizzard to be prepared for more of the same. Hundreds of flights were canceled, and airlines were waiting to see whether they'd have to cancel more. I was very surprised to see D.C receive this much snow this year. Also their was a record broken, last week's Blizzard of D.C was the biggest in 10 years. This is also scary for the people of D.C. Blizzard's like this can keep people out of work for weeks.

It has recently been released that hospitals in Haiti have been charging the injured for visits and treatments. I think that this is rediculous. When the people of a country are that desperatly in need for help just to barely survive, it should absloutly be free. This time of tragedy shouldn't be made worse by charging people who have just lost EVERYTHING. So, to emphesize this point, many countries who are currently helping to support Haiti are threatening to cut off their supplies. I think that this is necessary to show the big busisinesses in Haiti that they cant take advantage of the citizens of the ccountry. I think that we all need to relize that the big businesses run the country and are willing to ring us dry even when we have nothing to give. But other countries will always be willing to back us up. :)

My current event is about the guy in Dearborn who had 100+ dogs in his house. I have one dog and that seems like enough for me, I do not know how this guy had over a hundred in his little house. But Kenneth Lang Jr. who is mentally challenged is now on probation for cruelty. I still do not understand how this guy fit so many dogs in his house. I think that only putting him on probation though is a good idea. Like I said before he is mentally challenged and did not know any better. I think if anything his family should have some type of punishment too. You would think that they would check up on him to make sure he is okay, but they never did. But in the end I agree with the courts decision to only have him on probation and living in a mental institution and was ordered not to own any animals.

My current event today is on the "real life sleeping beauty". She is a 15 year old girl names Louisa that has been diagnosed with Klein-Levin Syndrome. It is a disease that affects mostly adolescents and causes them to sleep for days, weeks, and even in months. In the video that I watched of Louisa, she was talking about how it made her feel and her dad was talking about how she was affected by this. Basically, it is very difficult to wake her up and she only wakes up to eat and go to the bathroom and is in a non-responsive apathetic state. This can connect to our world because these are real people dealing with these issues. There's 6 billion something people in the world and we all have our unique story and background and you never know where someone comes from or what they are dealing with. It is a huge reminder to me to be thankful for what I have and that everyone is so different from each other. She's only a year younger from me and I can't imagine how that would feel to be her and not be in touch with the world for a month.

In life, for every stupid action made by any star, athlete, political member has always been reenacted by on eof our comedians or other tv stations. Things such as mike vick and his dog situation was constantly made fun of by different networks and shows. The last people i though would ever reenact stupid things, are our governtment officials. Recently, former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin was caught looking at the palm of her hand for cue points while giving a speech. As the word spreads, even the White House's top spokesman is getting in on the act of mocking her with writings on his hand at a interview. Robert Gibbs showed the words "hope" and "change" on his hand as he started his daily briefing with reporters on Tuesday. Even our own President Obama was present at the interview getting a laugh in. The reason i found this so shocking is because knowing the rolls of all political leaders, i would never thing that they would acctually change there respected mature ways on another political officer. After the insodent of her being caught, i would immediatly think she was going to be twoor up sooner or later by a tv network such as a late night show. But in shock, it comes out that in the end i ended up hearing first by a government official.

For my current event today I will be doing it on the release of details regarding Micheal Jackson's death. The Coroner has said that MJ's death was a homicide and he has released the autopsy report. Dr. Conrad Murray was officially charged with the aid of Michael Jackson's death. Murray gave him propofol, a very powerful anesthic, as a sleep aid. An anesthesiology consultant was hired by the coroner to review the findings of the investigation. He said that there are absolutely no reports of its use for insomnia relief to his knowlegde. I do not understand why a sucsessful doctor would jeperdise his career just to help a celeberty. He gave MJ to much of an anesthic that led to his death, when he culd have just given him a simple sleeping pill if he needed a sleep aid so badly.

For my curent eventing I choose to blog about how Toyata has called for a massive recall on the Toyata Prius. There is a recall because the prius' are having problems with the braking syatem. The recall is on the 2010 models. Toyata is worried that this is going to reuin their reputation. The only reputation they have to worry about their reputation for ruining the American automakers. I think this is the break the big three need to make a comeback in auto sales. To me this recall only proves that anything made by Toyata is JUNK. For the past couple of weeks y'all have heard all the recalls for toyotas. First it was the gas pedal problem. The gas pedal was getting caught on the floor mat making it impossible to release to pedal. And then you got this. Now the brakes don't work on them either. These are two most important features on a car that I would really want to work.

Toyota had to recall millions of cars lately. The Prius, as it is called, had acceleration and breaking problems. Toyota even admitted that they messed up. They also made a Toyota Commitment commercial to tell people how they plan to fix the problem.

Personally, I'd be pissed if I was one of the people that bought one of those cars. You'd think they'd know if THEIR car they THEY made had "acceleration and brake problems" and not sell it in the first place. Now they're apologizing and telling us what they should've done from the start. I believe this to be bull$%&#.

500,000 baby cribs have been re-called after three death incidents. Deaths occurs when the crib breaks and opens a gap that the child can suffocate in. This was not a major problem until recently when over 20 more incidents happened. I think this is bad on the manufacturers karma. They knew about the problems with these cribs and never re-designed them. Many babies are in harm and should not be. I think the company who makes this needs to be sued after a faulty design caused deaths. This tells you how lazy some people are. They can't even hold a safe product anymore.

For my current event, I read "Why have we allowed 1/3 of children to become overweight?" In the article I read about how Michelle Obama wants to change up some things to help prevent children obesity. Some of her ideas were to make food labels easier to read. She wants to put the labels on the front of the product. Another is to make school lunches healthier. To me, I don't believe changing up the labels are going to make much of a difference. First, children have learned to read them in school but honestly what child takes the time to count calories? Labels on the front won't make anymore difference than on the back. If a child wants to read and pay attention to the labels they will, but putting it on the front is pointless. This effects me because it's a waste of tax money and I may have to learn a completely new food label. However, I do think changing the lunch food would. Yet, Michelle Obama isn't starting this whole knew great idea like the article implies. People have been saying we should do this for a long time and some places they've actually done it. This effects me because when I buy lunch I could have a healthier choice, which is a positive thing.

I'm not trying to start a conflict, but it's been a really long time that our men have been there. These men have families. These families are now going through morning, or are constantly worried whether or not their going to get a knock on their door saying their son or daughter has passed. I think that the superattendants for Lakeland are worrying about count day. Count day is a big deal because it gives us money we need for the school, and the more people in school on count day meants the more money the school gets. And with the kids looking forward to the snow day I get the feeling that alot of kids might skip. Which in turn will hinder the amount of money Lakeland recieves for spending on the kids. If we don't get as much money as possible, the school might have to cut back on what we students get. For example, vending machines, edible school lunches, ect.

we've heard about Toyota and how some of their cars have malfunctions. Now people are saying that recalling these cars wont fix anything. Michael Pecht, from the university of Maryland, is an expert in failure analysis and he thinks the problem goes deeper than a sticky gas pedal. He thinks the problem is electronic. If Toyota claims that the problem is electronic, no one is going to want to drive these cars because of fear. I think its good that all of this is coming out now. Toyota covered many of their problems up in the past couple years and its coming back to haunt them. I think that Americans should be buying American vehicles to help our economy. People who buy foreign are just digging us a deeper hole and making our economy worse. Maybe these 'malfunctions' of the cheaply made foreign cars will cause people to buy more American vehicles.

A team at Google is working to make YouTube a place where hearing impaired can watch videos easier. Most videos that are uploaded to YouTube do not have any sort of captioning. This takes away the benefit of understanding what the video is saying. Through Google's speech recognition algorithms, speech will automatically be transcribed and displayed on the screen. This is a great extension of Google's transcription technology because it is already extensively used in their voice services (1 800-GOOG-411, Google Voice). While the hearing impaired is only a small subset of internet users, it is important for everyone to have access to the vast resources of YouTube (training, advertising/product demonstrations, entertainment, etc). I believe that this is a wonderful thing, and that this will extend to more of the websites on the internet.

Here is another K9 that saves the day. In Lake Worth, FL a family's Golden Retriever named Bubba started barking when flames erupted inside the home. The fire began about midnight. So Bubba's loud barks woke everyone up and got everyone out of the burning house in time. They believe if not for him they would have died in the fire. The family believes the fire may have started when the family cat knocked over a burning candle.
This is the second time that I have read about a dog saving someone’s life. I don’t mean trained rescue dogs but just a regular housedog. It is truly amassing how if you threaten a dogs family the dog will do all it can to protect them. An unfortunate truth about this story is how if nobody had a candle still going when everyone was asleep the dog would not have to have saved them and that they now have to live some ware else.

Today for my current event I am going to talk about the teen arrested in killing of LA anti-gang counselor. Los Angeles police arrested a 16-year-old boy on Tuesday, he would be charged with murder for shooting Barron to death Sunday night after Barron confronted him. A 40-year-old former member of the notorious Crips gang, Barron had become a respected anti-gang counselor who had preached against violence in schools and jails. Detectives started working on the case shortly after Barron died of multiple gunshot wounds at a hospital. They soon found a surveillance videotape from a business near the scene of the shooting that showed a tagger at work. Barron's killing is the latest in which taggers have fatally shot passersby who confronted them about graffiti writing over the past three years. I think that its wrong that a 16 year old person killed somebody.

I have seen this many times recently, with cars, houses, and businesses. Also on the news i saw a deer in downtown washington d.c. after the recent snow storm. This directly leads me to think about the environment. I think deer are going to weird places they wouldnt normally be at because they are looking for food. After snowfall it is hard for them to find things to eat. Next, i think about if we are taking to much of their environment away from them. I shouldnt call it their environment but i think that it belongs to them as well. We see deer in urban areas all the time now. Im not totally sure, but im recalling seeing deer in the news often.

In my opinion this guy is very wrong in what he did. JNot only did he let the army down, but he also let the citizens of the United States down. It shows how we can't alway trust everyone in our armed forces. I think he should serve far longer than he was sentenced, but that's just my opinion. Overall, I think this was very wrong of this guy, and many Americans should be disssapointed that this is what has come of some of our soldiers.

Even in such a happy time for the city of New Orleans for some idiot to just fire shots into the air and hit innocent people is just wrong. I am very glad that the Saint's won but there is a thin line between having fun and celebrating and getting out of control. The victims are lucky they were not seriously injured or even killed by the unexpected bullets that rained down onto them. Its upsetting to see that in such a time of happiness that someone would ruin it with stupidity. Congratulation to the Saint's and i hope that the celebrations will continue and be safe and not out of control.

Their is a girl who can sleep for days, weeks, and even months. Yes it is true, she has a disease called that causes this. It makes me think how lucky i am to be as healthy as i am. Their are so many tadegies going on out there such as haiti and katrina, and we are safe here. Alos, this article made me think of how lazy us teenagers are. I know this girl had a disease but i am talking about in general. Most of us dont getup until noon on the weekends. Also, we go to bed extremly late, which is why we have no energy for school. Eventually, the whole nation will be lazier and it will affect everything, such as the army and our jobs.

Today in Iran, another activist was put to death by the governemnt. This was the 10th death sentence by the government since the presidential election that started the unrest. At least 1000 people have been held by the government since, what some believe, December. Irainian authorities are supposedly trying to scare people to not go out on the streets this Thursday, for it marks the anniversary of the 1970 Ismalic Revolution. They do not want protesters out on the streets. I thought this was very intersting, especialy because we just read Perspolis, and it just made me think about how people in Iran may feel this thrusday on the anniversary. The government is just trying to intimmidate the citizens so that the movement doesn't progress any further. This affects me because it is the right to express freedom by protesting, something America is all about. I hope that things end up getting better in Iran. All people deserve the basic rights, even though I may not be able to do anything about it myself, I can still at least support the protesters trying to make their country a better place.

Sorry, I know it is late. For my current event I am going to talk about Karl Rabeder. Karl won 3 million dollars and gave it all away. He said, "It is just not making me happy", he also stated "Money is counterproductive – it prevents happiness to come." He has decided to move from his Alpine retreat into a smaller house near there. Karl said he is going to give every single penny to charity, central and Latin america. He will not accept any salary from these charities. This just goes to show two things. One, money cannot make you happy, no mater how much you have. 2nd, there are people out there that want to do some good in the world and give. He has helped many people by this act of kindness.

Today I will be talking about the near extinction of tigers. In the wild there are only 3,200 tiger left. Tigers could easily become extinct with in the next generation. There is a real threat to loosing this species forever. Three tiger subspecies have been extinct, and another, the China tiger has not been seen within the last 25 years. Unless the WWF starts cracking down really hard on illegal trade and poaching there is a good chance tigers will become extinct soon. Crawford Allan said the main reason why this species is about to become extinct is because of the high demand for the skin, fur, meat, teeth, and even claws of these tigers.

As Im sure everyone can see, there is a lot of snow outside. Last night, Michigan was hit with over a foot of snow. As always, this snow does have some positive and negative effects. For us, this snow is awesome, we get out of school. On the other hand, this can be bad for us though because the roads are covered and dangerous. There has already been 4 car accident deaths reported just since yesterday when the snow started falling! Over 500 schools were forced to close today too. This obviously relates to me very much so, because I am both a student and a driver. Yes, the roads are dangerous, and slippery, I can say that from experience. So, everyone have a safe ride.

Btw, This was the only time I could get to a computer, Sorry about the late-ness.
