Remember that rough drafts will be do on Friday. Some of you never even gave me the work and argument which is a problem.
For this evening, we shall do a current event. Remember that the connection to you, the community and the world is more important than the brief summary. NO CITE, NO POINTS.

For my current event I would like to talk about how hospital infections kill nearly 50,000 people in the United States each year. Pneumonia and blood-borne infections caught in hospital killed 48,000 patients and cost $8.1 billion in 2006, according to a report released on Monday. "In many cases, these conditions could have been avoided with better infection control in hospitals," said Ramanan Laxminarayan of Resources for the Future, a think tank that sponsored the study. Researchers said that 1.7 million healthcare-associated infections are diagnosed every year. This study affects my community and myself. One of my friends gets sick a lot and has to go to the hospital for weeks at a time. If my friend keeps getting sick, then he will probably get or already has a hospital type infection from going to the hospital so much. If I were to get really sick and have to stay in the hospital for a while then I would be concerned that I would be getting some kind of infection from the hospital. I think that hospitals should be more concerned with trying to keep other peoples sicknesses away from other patients. I know it is hard to do, but people who go to the hospital for a broken leg shouldn't end up getting some kind of bad infection from the hospital. Hospitals need to fix this problem as soon as possible.

Three Google executives from Italy have been convicted in a trial over a video bullying an autistic teen. They broke the Italian law by allowing this video allowing to be posted online, and were convicted of privacy violations. This conviction has gotten many Google executives angry, because these men can not possibly view every video posted online. The employees had nothing to do with the video, and Google spokesmen are calling it a violation of freedom of speech. I think that the decision was too harsh, considering that the men had no knowledge whatsoever of the video. I think that the students who posted the video deserved the suspension from school. This story affects the community because we have to watch what we put on the internet, because there are consequences for what we put on the internet. Two years ago, a girl on my dance team posted crap about our studio and the team members, and she was kicked out of the studio for good. We don't usually think about what would happen if we posted something online. We have the freedom of speech to say what we want, but we have to realize that there can still be consequences. Plus, the boys who made fun of their classmate caused a lot of damage, not only to the Google executive, but also to the other boy. What they did was ignorant and rude, and now they are paying for it.

Since 1960 the United States men's hockey team has not defeated Canada in olympic play. This past Sunday marked an improbable upset in a prelimanary game against the Canadians. Like the Miracle on ice on Febuary 22, 1980 in Lake Placid, the Americans were a significant underdog against a tough and talanted Russian team but managed to come out on top. Over the past decade or so, American hockey has always been looked down upon because they are less skilled then the other countries in the world. But after this past Sunday's game i believe is the start of an uprise in youth hockey especially here in Michigan. Currently on the USA roster are three players from the state of Michigan. Those players are: Ryan Miller from East Lansing, Jack Johnson from Ann Arbor and finally Brian Rafalski from Dearborn and current Red Wing. I think that as long as the US keeps on winning in the Olympics, then we will be able to get more kids intrest into it and keep them off the couch.

My current event this evening is going to be about the seven year old girl who was killed. This little girl's body was dumped in a landfill. The man who is suspected of killing her will also be charged for pornography. Police are still unclear on how she was killed. The little girl Somer Thompson has gotten in a fight with another girl at school earlier that day and was very upset by it, according to her sister. Somer ran off and was last seen standing in front of a vacant house, that men were re-building. How this current event effects not only me but everyone else out there, is that you never know what kind of sick people could be walking around here. You always have to be extra careful and have a watchful eye. Now a days, there are so many stores of young girls being raped, kind napped, and killed. This is why the rules when you were a little kid comes in handy: don't socialize with strangers, don't trust anyone who says they will "help" you, and never get in a car with a stranger. With doing these things you could be jeopardizing your own life. The parents of communities should always have their eye on their children and should never be allowed to go off on their own. It is a very scary world out there and you don't want to be a story in the news, so be careful.

Rober Glass, the Defense Secretary, wrote a letter to Congress about letting women aboard submarines. This is big since women have not been allowed to be on submarines for 110 years. Within 18 months, women can be on board subs, if the law passes. There is only 30 days left where Congress can make a law to deny it.
I think this is a great accomplishment for women. This is one of the last things women aren't allowed to do and they might be able to do it soon. I have to say that there will most likely be a lot of angry women out there if Congress passes a law to stop it. So I highly doubt it will be stopped.

For my current event I would like to discuss the firings of all the teachers at one Rhode Island school. This included teachrs, guidance counselors, reading specialists, and other educators. Central Falls High School is in a poverty stricken area and one of the lowest performing schools in Rhode Island. The district wanted the teachers to agree to an agreement that the teachers would work a longer school day of 7 hrs and tutor students weekly for one hur outside of school time. Also, it was proposed the teachers should have lunch w/students, meet for 90 minutes every week to discuss education and set aside 2 weeks during summer berak for paid profesisonal development. This seems like a lot of give on the teacher's part. When they could not come to an agreement the supeintendent opted for a turnaround model: which meant firing every teacher at a troubled school. The school can rehire up to 50%. This all comes back to responsbilities. It is not only the teacher's responsibility and accountability for all involved. It is the responsibilites of the school board, teachers, students, and parents to come up with a plan that will improve this school. My sister is going into teaching and it's sad that the teachers of this school district is taking the fall for a breakdown in education.

For todays current event i would like to express the problem in Rhode Island. The school board at a struggling school has fired all teachers. A dramatic and controversial plan aimed at shoring up education in a poverty-ridden school district. This has put many teachers in a rough situation. In a 5-2 vote Tuesday night, the board approved the plan by Frances Gallo. Superintendent at Central Falls School District discharged the teachers at Central Falls High School. The reason for firing all the teacher is because they failed to reach a certain agreement, in which it meant their job's. Now i agree that the teachers should be punished, but not fired. During this economic struggle its hard to find jobs, so i kinda worry how all those teachers are going to get another job.

For my current event i would like to talk about Joannie Rochette, canadian figure skater. I know that we arent supposed to make this about sports, but i think that it was something worth recognizing. 24-year-old Canadian figure skater, Joannie Rochette, lost her mother to a heart attack Sunday in Vancouver. She was scedualed to compete the following tuesday in the women's short program, before her mother had even been laid to rest. After a absloutly breath-taking performance, Rochette broke into tears as she took in the crowds booming standing ovation and the pride in knowing that her mother would be so proud of her. Her routine earned her third place, but the triumph isnt in her performance. Rochette overcame her grief and sorrow to get out on the ice and show every body what her and her mother had worked for. I cant even begin to imagine the amount of courage and bravery that it would take to do something like that. I was blown away by the fact that she was so ready to face the challenge and do what she came to do. Dan Jansen, who knows what its like performing to the world after the loss of a loved one, sent Rochette an email saying "I don't know if you can prepare for the emotions you're going to feel out there, but if you can get through it there are millions of people supporting you. And most of all, skate with your mother in your heart." It is obvious that his support gave her strength, along with the support of everyone watching the olyipics who knows about this tragedy. I think that her strength and courage are beyond note-worthy and the she will continue to skate with her monther in her heart.

American Academy of Pediatrics' are not saying that hot dog labels should have a warning for chocking on packaging. Between 66 and 77 children, under the age of 10, die from choking. The thing is children choke on so many different things that they would have to put choking hazard signs on every label or food. I think that it is up to the parents to make sure that the child’s food it cut up small enough for them and make sure they don’t put things in their mouth they aren’t supposed to have. This doesn’t mean you should chase your child around, but just make sure they aren’t stuffing things in their mouth that can cause them to choke. There are so many things that pediatricians tell you to do like make sure you watch your child eat, make sure that they don’t eat in the car…that’s not going to happen. Parents have way too much to do to have to sit in front of their five year old and watch he/she eat every single bite of their meal. I think that putting a hazard sign for choking on hot dog labels are dumb and unnecessary. If you want to put a hazard sign on hot dog labels then you might as well put it on everything that is food.

For my current event blog I feel like talking about how a military contractor has suddenly had a bunch of firearms dissapear. The guns were signed out with a fake name. The person who took them used the name Eric Cartman, the character from South Park. All of a sudden 300 "assult" rifles were signed out. The firearms that were taken came from a bunker that is used for storage for the Iraqi polic. Also how the same company is responsible for the death of iraqi civilians. This is a issue that events everyone. It effects everyone because when civilians are killed by mercaneries that only causes more problems btw the Iraqis and the rest of the world. My thought on the matter is that there should be more restrictions on how easily surplus weapons can be removed from their storage facility. I think it had to be someone that works for the military contract company because they had to have known all they neede was a signiture to acquire all of these guns.

For my current event I am going to talk about two american missionaries in jail. Two Americans who have been held on suspicion of kidnapping thirty three children from Haiti. However there is talk of possible release. Two of the ten missionaries suspected of kidnapping were said to be taking the children to a safe place. However they were tying to cross the border with out legal documentation for the children from Haiti. One of the women who is being held in till further information claimed the children were abandoned. When in fact 20 of the thirty three children had one living parent. I feel like this story has a lot of complications. I do not think it was right for them to lie and try to cross the border illegally. However the parents of the children said they wanted the children to have better quality of life. Im very grateful we have people to help in devastation's, but it is stories like this that make you doubtful of peoples intentions.

Yesterday in Littleton Colorado, two students were shot at a middle school. A man came into the school with a high powered rifle and shot two teenage students. Both students, one male and one female, are expected to survive, but are currently in the ICU. The man who shot the students was tackled by a math teacher at the school and then taken away by the police.
What amazes me, is that this man shot kids. Its not even the fact that he shot someone. I have become used to the fact that people shoot other people, which is sad in itself, but he shot kids. Middle School kids. Why in the lords name would you shoot kids. What could those children ever have possible done to him. This rolls into another issue. What is to stop someone from walking into our school with a gun? I mean we had someone just walk into the school last year. What if he had a gun in that backpack of his. What would we do? Or more than one person. There is one man at our school with a gun. What is going to stop them from walking in and killing people. Lets be honest. That person walked around the entire school and was never noticed. Had he not pulled the fire alarm would we ever have known he was there? How many people could he have killed before Officer Simsack, well Officer Connel at the time, even got close to him. People say that nothing like that will ever happen, becuase its a high school and why would someone want to shoot a bunch of high schoolers. Well this is the news flash. Obviously some people really dont care who they shoot. In fact, if it wasnt for that heroic teacher, more people probably would have died at that elementary school. We need more protections at the schools. Whats the problem with putting a metal detector at the entrances? Honestly people should have nothing to hide anyway. I get that it is expensive, but we are talking about a potentially threatening situation here for kids who are just starting their lives. People dont necessarily realize how unsafe we actually are.

For my stupid current event i dont want to talk about a man suspected of shooting two students at a Littleton middle school in colorado. He is accused of shooting two students as classes were letting out on Tuesday. A teacher had to tackle the man as he was prepared to fire again. The shooting occurred in the same area as one of the deadliest school shootings the 1999 the killing of 12 students and a teacher at Columbine High School.I dont understand why school shooting or any shootings are necessary. They have absolutly no reason, the arnt fighting for somthing they believe in they are only shooting innocent people. They only seem to be random acts of violence. This current event is scary to me becasue these shootings take place in school. This is a threat to school communities around the world becasue once the first school shooting came about more followed. its scary becasue school is supose to be a safe place where parents feel comfertable sending their kids, whos to say this cant happen to any schools. Its not like these schools had suspected it or had reasons to believe people were comming in to shoot up the school.
for my current event i found this and it made me laugh. it just shows how stupid people can be. it is a man getting chased bny police cars and almost gets caught so he decides to hope up on the hood of his moving car and slid off the hood in front of the car and try to run. he makes it off the car then falls almost gets ran over by a cop car then gets back up and runs then falls again and gets tackled by cops. haha i thoiught it was funny. people are so stupid. first if your in trouble you shouldnt run maybe lie or something dont run i gets you in more trouble. sceond if you do decide to run maybe you should ware clotes that fit. haah i think thats why hr trip one of the times. and thrid dont go in front of a moving car let alnoe hop on the hood. i thought that was common sence but i guess for some people its not! haha.

For my current event, I am going to talk about a new discovery that could save millions. The Bitter Melon, an odd vegetable, is a brand new step for cancer patients. This vegetable kills breast cancer cells. The Bitter Melon is highly used in India and South-Asia in stir fry, soups, and stews. It is also used to treat diabetes. This melon can "kill" breast cancer cells and prevent them from multiplying. This is really good news, because there are so many women around the world with breast cancer. This could be the start of finding a cure for cancer. It's always nice to have hope and a possible cure. It gets its name because it is the most bitter of all vegetables, and its also called African cucumber, balsam pear and bitter gourd.

The current event I am doing is about women in the armed forces, specificly in the United States. Cases show that about 30% of women that are in the military have filed caes of attempeted and complete rape. Studies also show that about 90% of the rapes are not filed and never reported. They get disrespected by the very same men in our military. This is a very serious situation for our military system and the role of women in it. I was very dissapointed to read this, but not very suprised. Most of the women in the military said that they had a very difficult time with the harrasment and disrespect by other military members. Women have just as much of a right to serve in the armed forces as men do, and should not be treated so disgustingly. The rape cases are being taken more seriously by commanders and are sending them to court martial. The problem women are having is proving what the men did, and haveing the authorities take her words over the predetors. This affects me because I am a women, and we should be respected especially in the military. I am glad that more steps are being taken with this and it is being handled more seriously. Our women in service should not be dealing with rapist, and the rapist should not be in the military.

the current evnt i have chosen to write about is on naps and learning. a study was performed on 39 people to see if napping helped them to understant infromation. the group that didn;t nap reduced their learning by 10 percent and the group that did nap increased by 10 percent. the study explained that throughout the day as we try to learn more and more information our brains in a sense get clogged from all the information. i think this is an important thing to remember especially about high school student. i'd say the average student wakes up at 6 and we dont get out of school until 2 thats about 8 hours of learning. and even after that many students have sports or clubs after school which still continue force us to learn. i would say we should have a nap hour but i would rather get out of school earleir. however i do believe that napping would revitalize and help us learn better through out the day

For my current event i have decided to talk about another whale killing that has occured. In Orlando Florida, 40-year-old killer whale trainer, Dawn Brancheau, was killed by a whale at SeaWorld in Orlando. Reporters state Dawn had been on the job when the terrible case occured. After putting on a show, dawn was walking aside the pool when suddenly she hit a slick spot and fell into the whales tank. All audiance were still around as this all was taking place and were freeking out. The whale did not eat dawn but started playing with her causing her to then drowned. Reading this, i was in complete shock yet have always had the thought that i would never be able to trust these agressive animals. Goes to show i was right, which once again lowers my self care for these animals.

for my current event i found an article about a trainer killed by a killer whale at sea world. A killer whale attacked and killed a trainer in front of a horrified audience Wednesday at a SeaWorld show, with at least one witness saying the animal leaped from the water, dragged her under and thrashed her around violently. Distraught audience members were hustled out of the stadium, and the park was immediately closed. The 40-year-old veteran trainer was one of the park's most experienced. It was not clear exactly how she died. I feel like this has a connection to maybe not the community, but animal trainers and people who deal with theses sorts of animals. animals like these may act nice and tamed but at anytime they can lash out and hurt or even kill an innocent person. Ecpecially when you're dealing with that big of an animal in water. its a very easy way to drown and die, by just being there at that time when the animal decided it wasn't gonna be nice anymore. for no reason.

Today for my current event i chose to do Another major winter storm has Northeast in bull's-eye. A major nor'easter is expected to bring blizzard conditions to interior New England and heavy rain and near-hurricane-force wind gusts to Northeastern coastal areas Wednesday through Friday.
Little, if any, snow will fall in Boston, Massachusetts, while Washington, New York and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, could see as much as 5 inches of snow with locally higher amounts, CNN meteorologist Sean Morris said. Record snowfall totals of 30 inches or more will be possible across upstate New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine, Morris said. Very strong winds will combine with the heavy snow to produce dangerous white-out conditions and widespread power outages. This pertains to the communities life because we have gotten a lot of snow as well, and it can get dangerous. Also, this deals with my life because i absolutley hate the snow, and want it to be spring already!

A judge told the Lower Merion School District in Pennsylvania to not activate Webcams remotely under any circumstances. This case is already being referred to by some as Webcamgate. According to the source, "A student's family is accusing Harriton High School of spying on their son in their home by remotely activating the Webcame on his school-issued Apple laptop." The student got a restraining order on the school and the judge has ordered the school to not delete any information in their computer system. Many other school systems with remote activated Webcams are concerned for about what the judge is going to rule on the case, becasue it could affect them too. I find this case to be interesting because it is in a way related to the Watergate scandal that I am doing for my argumentative paper. From the article, it sounds like there is a decent amount of evidence that the school district is guilty of committing this act, and if they delete any information, it will be just like when Nixon had segments of his tapes erased to protect him. Although our district doesn't have remote-activated Webcams or Apple laptops for students, I think this affects us because as technology progresses, oru schools may get laptops for students. We can't be worried that our schools are going to be spying on us. I hope that this case gets resolved in a good manner and that a reasonable agreement comes out of it. I don't think it would be fair to punish other school districts for this school's mistake, but maybe other school districts could take steps that prevent faculty from spying on students.

For my current event i would like to talk about the seaworld trainer that was killed by a killer whale today. The trainer was talking about the whales to tourists and giving the whale a belly rub when all of a sudden the whale took off around the pool, came back around and took the trainer by the waist and shook her violently. The trainer was said to be one of the best sea world had. I can imagine how comfortable the trainer was there, just at work doing something she had done a million times before. How comfortable she must have been there. It just shows you that no matter how comfortable you are in a situation, theres always danger, especially around animals. Im not saying we should live our lives paranoid looking over our shoulders. but, its always something to think about. At any time youre life could be over and i wanna be happy with what i did. This was a pretty far stretch from sea world i guess but it just made me think a lot i guess. Even in the most comfortable situation, theres always danger.

For tonights current event i am going to talk about the teacher fireings in Rhode Island. 93 % of the teachers, Principels and other administrators were fired at a Rhode ISland Highschool. The School Board wanted teachers to help the kids more and stay aftr school. At this High school, 65% of the kids are HIspanic. 55% of the kids are failing and only 7 % of them can do math. THis school is rediculous. In a proposal based on federal guidelines, teachers were asked to work a longer school day of seven hours and tutor students weekly for one hour outside school time. She proposed teachers have lunch with students often, meet for 90 minutes every week to discuss education and set aside two weeks during summer break for paid professional development. Now i know some of these thigns teachers may not want to do but these kids really need help. THe reason they ended up not agreeing to this was becuase they could not agree on a pay rate. Now i think this goes perfectly wat we were talking about yesterday with the teach and student respect issue. These teacher do not respect there student at all. When i read this i pictured that Pikn Floyd song yesterday with thise dumb teachers. This just shows how good we have it here at LAkeland. Our teachers are always ready to help and are less worried about money.

Today I read "All teachers fired at Rhode Island school" on CNN.
A crazy thing happened in Road Island where the board fired 88 teachers at a school. Most of the students live in poverty and their is only a 48% graduation rate. The board wanted to add more hours on for tutoring and other things. Also, they wanted them to help students at their lunchtime. The teachers wanted to negotiate more pay which got them fired. I understand that they wanted more students to pass and graduate and that is perfectly good. However, they should be paying the teachers more for the extra hours. This effects me because I think they are going to have more pressure on teachers and students. This problem could have easily been solved by just negotiating with the teachers. I think it's very unreasonable to fire 88 teachers.

My current event is going to be on the massive recall, and the problem with toyota cars in general. When the problem of "run away cars" came about, toyota blamed the gas pedal sticking on the floor mats. Even when a family that died from the defect had the floor mats in the trunk, they still blamed it on the mats holding the gas pedal down to the floor. The accidents cause by the gas pedals, have costed the toyota company a great deal of money, and has made toyota owners distrust the company/ dealership. Because the company blamed the gas pedal problem on the floor mats there were more accidents cause by the defect than necessary. Its affected me because now i have a negative view on the toyota company and their cars, and now i am less likely to get a toyota. the impact on the world is great, because toyota is a worldwide company and has cars all over the world, and if people are loosing control of their cars all around the world, then theyre less likely to buy from toyota. another way the world is affected by this problem is because there are familys being torn apart from people dying in accidents, and the company isnt taking the full blame for their problems.
For my current event I am going to talk about the teacher who tackled a shooter in a school. David Benke saw a man taking a shot with a bolt action rifle at students leaving school. He and fellow coworkers were able to tackle and hold down the shooter until the police came. The only regret Benke had was not being able to get to the shooter before he was able to get a second shot off that hit a student. It is good that we have teachers that are willing to put there lives at risk to save students. I know that there are some teachers out there that probably would run the other way. It is nice to know that teachers have taken action against things that will harm students.

Today at sea-world a marine trainer was killed by Tillikum, a killer whale. This did not happen at a main show but in one of the observation tanks the whales were stored in. The story states that the whale jumped out and grabbed the women by the waist and then thrashed her underwater. Witnesses watched in horror. Soon after an alarm was set off and the park evacuated. People were escorted out and the park closed for the rest of the day.
I don't know what to reflect this on but what a weird death. This trainer has had over 10 years experience with these whales and just like that, dead. Plenty of people there got a show they would have most likely passed on seeing. This was a rare event and the last death from this whale was in 1999.

A Ray Township man is being charged after he stabbed his neighbor. His neighbor was an 87 year old woman. She was a grandmother and was harmless to everybody. Why would somebody stab an old lady to death? Thats exactly the malicious behavior that gives Michigan a bad reputation. The woman had never done anything to the man and it was a random act of violence. The man was sentenced to life in prison. Thats just ridiculous that somebody could randomly stab an 87 year old woman. This is horrible and exactly the thing that makes it unsafe to walk around our neighborhoods. How can you be sure that some random man isnt going to run up and stab you to death? Its sad that the world has come to this.

For my current event, I chose a story about the teacher that tackled a man shooting at students at his school. The middle school is just two miles away from Columbine and a guy by the name of Bruco Eastwood shot two kids there yesterday. The teacher ran to him and tackled him to the ground until the police came. The kids that got shot were sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and are recovering now. At the beginning of the article it talks about how the teacher, Dr. Benke always told his students that if there was ever an emergency he wanted to be prepared to do something about it. He really stuck to his word and put his own life in danger to do it. I think it is important in our world to always be prepared to deal with an emergency and know what to do in a situation like this. I think we need more people like him to be courageous and not be bystanders in times like these. Also, it reminds us to be careful because there are crazy people in the world who won't hesitate to hurt or kill young kids for any reason.

The leader of a small religious cult told the mother of a one year old not to feed her child because he was possesed. The child died from starvation and the mother thought he would come back to life. I picked this current event because it was extremely tragic and weird. This type of story shows what this world is coming to. It shows us how people can get brain washed easily into thinking something that outragous. This type of story makes me want to help others that have fallen under this spell. This child was innocent and deserved so much better. I hope to one day help kids and other people like this.

For my current event today I want to talk about how hospital infections kills about 50,000 people in the U.S. every single year. Air Borne infections such as Pneumonia caught in hospitals killed nearly 48,000 paitents and cost about $8.1 billion dollars in 2006. With no doubt these infections could have been easily avoided if there would have been better attention towards the paients. Recent research studies have found that 1.7 million healthcare associated infections are diagnosed each year. I feel that this horrible thing could be avoided if the doctors could just pay more attention and look for these infections sooner. It effects my life because it harms my family members and it could potientically kill them if thy do not catch the infections. I also would assume that this could possibly harm me if I were to get sick. I would be very concerned for my health if I had to stay in the hospital for a long period of time.

In Littleton Colorado, a teacher at Deer Creek Middle school became a hero. Students at the schools parking lot were suddenly showered with bullets. The suspect, 32-year-old Bruco Strong Eagle Eastwood, managed to wound two students before he was taken down. David Benke sprung into action and pinned the gunman to the ground. He was able to subdue Eastwood untill authorities arrvied. I was thought if something likethis happened at Lakeland. I wouldnt know how to react because I would have thought our school would be the last place a shooting would take place. I also wonder if it did happen, who would try to stop the shooter. It takes some balls to tackle and try and keep someone with a gun under control. David showed his concern for his students' safety, which is why he is viewed as a national hero.

Today, Colonel Robert L. Howard was buried in Arlington Cemetary. He is one of the most decorated soldiers in the Vietnam War. He was in the U.S. army Airborne for 33 years, plus three more years doing other things. He was awarded eight purple hearts for his injuries in the Vietnam War. HE was 70 when he died. It is these type of people, I think, that are true Americans. I'm glad he was laid to rest in one of the most highly regarded cemetaries in the U.S. Eight purple hearts just make you wonder how he got through the war alive. Nonetheless, he did, and he is being properly honored for it, even after his death. I have always been fascinated by the events in World War I and II. I think seeing veterans in the flesh is a truly remarkable thing. It feels to me like its a piece of the real live history standing right in front of you, whether they are dead or alive. Overall, I am glad something good happened in the world, because I'm tired of hearing trgedy after tragedy. Overall, I am very happy for this guy.

For my current event I am going to talk about Detroit's former mayor Kwami Kilpatrick. Recently it has been discovered that Kilpatrick took bribes to up to 100 thousand dollars. It is also said that his father tokk up to 300 thousand dollars in bribs. The Michian Court of Appeals is calling him "A darker version of Bill Clinton." Kilpatrick is also being accused of using his government office facility as a meeting place for illegal organizations and the present day mafia. To think that this man once was a decision maker of a city is proposterous. This scandal affects the people of Detroit directly and our community. To have someone of this stature in power is frightening. It all started with the text messages I think. Kawmi was a cheater and always will be. Men like Kawmi should not be in charge of a economically deprived city. I personally am very glad that he is out of office. It's scares me that we the people trusted someone like Kawmi, what if it happens again? Overall, you never know who you can trust. Whether they are the best dressed or have good public speaking habits we need to be cautious.

A school board in Rhode Island has voted to fire all teachers at a struggling high school, a dramatic move aimed at shoring up education in a poverty-ridden school district.
In a 5-2 vote Tuesday night, the board approved the plan by Frances Gallo, superintendent at Central Falls School District, to discharge the teachers, administrators and other personnel at Central Falls High School.
The firings, which will be effective at the end of this school year, came after the district said it failed to reach an agreement with the teachers' union on a plan for the teachers to spend more time with students to improve test scores.
A union spokesman called the firings drastic and cited a 21 percent rise in reading scores and a 3 percent increase in math scores in the past two years.
The school district said 93 people -- including the principal, three assistant principals and 77 teachers -- were fired. The teachers' union said the firings affected 74 classroom teachers plus a number of other educators such as guidance counselors and reading specialists.
What the school board in Rhode Island is doing is unfair. It is unfair to the students, the teachers, and families of the teachers. They are only getting fired because kids test scores are not high. Teachers should not be punished for bad test scores. You can’t just try a new staff of teachers to see if test scores increase. There might be many reasons for scores to be that low. There might be a portion of the kids that don’t do well on tests and they just need help. It could be people they don’t do what they are suppose to do in school. They are punishing the teachers that did not do anything wrong. It is like what has happened with us on how we have to do all the blogs this week because a lot of people did not do their blogs.
Today I will be talking about how every teacher got fired at a Rhode Island high school. The school is located in a poverty- ridden school district. The firings will take place at the end of this school year. The school district said that 93 total staff members are going to be fired. The principal, 3 assistant principals, and 77 teachers will be the majority of who will be fired. This connects to the community I live in. If all the teachers got fired at Lakeland that would affect everyone I know. Overall I think that firing all the teachers at that school was a positive thing for the kids.

Whether we know it or not, a battle over education is going on around us at the moment. Schools are always needing more money to pay for things that help them better their service of public education. Recently a school in Farmington has had to debate whether or not to shut down and lay off teachers to save money. This is relevant because it could potentially effect us. As we know, the economy isn't in the best state right now, which means that schools arent doing too hot as well. What if Lakeland had to close and lay off the teachers? What would we do, go to northern? Milford? What if they needed to close too? This is something that we need to pay attention to because with our declining economy, the schools funding is also declining and it could effect us. Im sure none of us would care if the school was to be closed, but still.

For my current event I would like to talk about the fact that gas prices are slowly increasing and are expected to get higher by the summer. I read that gas prices have increased by seventeen cents. I drive everyday and sometimes (most times) I have to pay for my own gas, and I cant afford the gas. With the economy being as bad as it is it makes it hard for me to get a job anywhere. So how am i suppose to pay for the gas to fuel my car. I think that this is a nation issue and it effects everyone, especially teens. Some teenagers are very fortunate to have parents that pay for their gas, and some have to pay for it themself.

It is really good to see that medical science is advancing at a more and more rapid pace. There is almost an art in the medical arena. This is an art "painted" by brilliant minds. A boy who needed a liver transplant when he was only 8 months old is now in the stage where his body is rejecting it. This however was planned. His own liver "regenerated," and the doctors were able to take him off his anti rejection medicine. Medical science is advancing at a very rapid rate. This is important to us because almost everyone will have to go to the hospital for a significant operation. When medical science advances, lives are saved. This is truly wonderful.

Today i shall talk about the car company toyota. It is to be said that they have recalled millions of their cars. The gas pedal sticks on the cars and also some of the brakes dont work on them. This has a lot of people upset and frustrated. I think this connects to me because it opens my eyes about all the junk thats out there. People dont even have the common decency to make things right. IF i wanted to buy a car i ave to reasearch now. It all comes back to responsiblities and what i learn from everything. People need to go back to buying good ole fords and chevys. They dont have problems like this toyota crap does. Also i think this effects me because i worry about our car safety these days and toyotas drawbacks dont help. Millions of people could of been injured and killed.

For my current event i would like to talk about how an ex cop pleads guilty of being ivolved with the shooting of civilians days after the hurricane Katrina. After the hurricane times were tough. But that is no reason to shoot civilians. 2 civilians were killed and 4 were injured. If it was me as the cop i would have not let any of the cops shoot any innocent civilians. There are many things in this world that i consider evil, and that is a perfect exammple. No one should be killed just because of the times the country or town is going through. I would have taken an easier and much safer approach. This affects the community because it shows that the community policeman can not always be trusted. If they are willing to kill their own civilians just to make everyone feel that the hurricane was not a big deal, theres something wrong.

In current news hungry bandits steal chicken wings from Dominos delivery man. In columbus Ohio a ninteen year old Domnios Delivery man was on a routine delivery of some chicken wings when two hungry bandits approached him and said,"Give me the wings.". the two men fled with $36 worth of chicken wings.
You know, I have always hated current event blogs but this current event just made my day. So watch out citizens of White Lake, you never know when hungry armed bandits might mug your dominos delivery man for $36 worth of good chicken. you never know, one of the kids in our class could turn out to be a chicken theif when he grows up. So dont order delivery from Dominos, always order pick up; its a lot safer for your delivery man.

After school on tuesday in Denver, Colorado a teacher became a hero. Deer Creek Middle School teacher David Benke stopped a gunman from causing disaster thoughout the school. The gun man a former student at the school was unloading fire upon students leaving school. he hit two students one girl and one boy they both left the seen with minor non life threatning injuries. Benke emideiatly attacked the gun man tackling him to the ground and him and other teachers held him down until police were able to respond. Ironicly the middle school is located only 2 miles from combine high school one of the nations most deadly school shootings. I found this to be very reassuring. It is great to see someone who will sacrifice his or her life to protect the children he or she teaches every day. I thought of what i would do in a situation like this. I hope that i would have the courage to stand up against some ones act of terror to save others. This truly is an act of heroism. A hero is often seen as someone in tight pants and a mask, but as we see every day people who act quickly and efficently are the true heroes. I hope these acts of extreme courage and heroism will continue though out the future.

I would like to talk about the issues going on with Toyota. Akio, the president of Toyota, was grilled by many lawyers today for his very slow respond to the safety issues with certain Toyota models. He apologized for his slow response but that doesnt cut it. Almost 40 people died from these issues and all Toyota did was try and cover it up. Now everything is out in the open and its coming back to bite 'em in the ass. I hope they get prosecuted to the fullest extent or whatever so that maybe more people will buy American vehicles from the Big 3 and actually help out America. For so long people thought that Toyota was so much better than Fords and Dodges and Chevy's but maybe now they will realize there is nothing wrong with them. I think its awful to think that Toyota covered this up for so long. Buy American.

GM recently annouced to shut down the Hummer portion of their company. Not only does it take hummers off the road, but it scares me. I think that the auto companies are still on the decline. Branches like hummer, lincoln, or mercury are all suffering. I think that instead of worrying about healthcare, something that will never change. The US government should focus on automibiles. Making cas more affordable, and more efficient will help our economy more. I know everyone needs healthcare, but we need transportation and cars too.
It probably impossible for anyone not to hear about the Olymics going on right now in Vancouver, Cananda. I understand that we are not supposed to discuss a sporting event, however this connects to not only me and my community, but also my country. Obviously, the United States has been going through tough times. The Olympics couldn't have come at a better time for this country. Having the entire country cheer on and support their own athletes helps to bring everyone together. It is a great opportunity to revitalize the patriotism of a country. When millions of Americans watched the USA Hockey team kick the cocky Canadian Hockey team a few days ago, it led the country to celebrate, perhaps putting aside all the stress in life. I have always watched the Olympics, and I even went to watch the summer games in Atlanta when I was really young. Each night it brings my family together which I love. The Olympics are far more than an over rated sporting events, the Olympics are what bring us together, within our families, and within our own country.

I would like to talk about the woman who was told to not feed or water her one year old son. "Queen" Antoinette, leader of a small religious cult, told Ria Ramkissoon not to nurture her son, Javon Thompson, because the child was supposedly "possessed with an evil spirit" for not saying "amen" aftwer a prayer. And Antoinette says that Javon said "amen" before the prayer. And now Ria waits for her sons resurrection, saying she believes Antoinette that it was "God's will" to kill the baby. I do not give a shit if Ria was crazy for her religion, she should have known that her son was not "possessed." She should have wisened up and realized that Javon was only a year old. Barely any child speaks at that age. Why do people have to be so fucking stupid? I hope Antoinette gets what she deserves.

Not far from where the Columbine shooting happened nearly 11 years ago, a teacher stops an attempt at what could have been much worse than 2 injured students. David Benke, a math teacher at Deer Creek Middle School in Littleton, Colorado, tackles the shooter, 32-year-old Bruco Eastwood, to the ground in time to save many students lifes. School officials honor Benke and his quick action as further proof that preparations put in place after Columbine have paid off. I think this relates to my community because a school shooting could happen anywhere. You never know who pissed of the wrong kid, or in this case, the wrong adult. Its good that some schools have made an effort to be ready if something like that were to happen, and I think more places should prepare for it. I would be so scared, and clueless, if a shooting like that happened at Lakeland, or any school for that matter. I think more needs to be done to be prepared, and maybe that will also help prevent them from happening.

A former New Orleans police officer pleaded guilty on Wednesday The police caused the shootings of civilians in the days after Hurricane Katrina. Michael Lohman was convicted of conspiring with a group of New Orleans police officers to obstruct justice by engaging in a cover-up of the true circumstances. Two civilians were killed and four were wounded in the shootings on September 4, 2005. This was days after Hurricane Katrina. This police officer was not right by doing this. Its not really fair to those people.

For tonight's current even I decided to pick a local topic. Since my grandma owns the bakery in downtown Milford I know a lot of what is going on in town. A big topic on everyone's mind is that they are thinking about closing Baker Elementary. What I don't understand about this is that, Baker only has 3 buses that go there and the rest of the kids walk, wouldn't it save more money to close a different school that has a lot of buses that go there everyday? Also people in downtown Milford moved into the village so their kids could go to Baker and be able to walk to school. I just feel like its not right to close a school that is held so close to the community and that people care so much about. There was a huge outcome to the school forum that gave people their chance to speak up against what they are considering doing. I am happy to see that people are taking a stand and trying to fight this, rather than just sitting around and just letting them do this. All and all I hope they keep Baker Elementary opened.

For my current event i'm going to talk about the trainer who got killed by killer whale at sea world yesterday. The killer whale attacked and killed a trainer in front of a huge audience at a SeaWorld show. One witness said the animal leaped from the water, dragged her under and threw her around violently. Everyone was hoorified. The members were hustled out of the stadium, and the park was immediately closed. I feel like this is a connection to me because I've been to that sea world before, its just weird knowing that ive seen it perform before. Now a trainer is dead, because the whale attacked her. I dont think they should punish the whale though, thats its nature, its who they are.

For my current event, I'm going to talk about Rajaan Bennett who was murdered protecting his family. His mother's ex boyfriend showed up to their home with a revolver in hand. He forced Rajaan, Rajaan's mother, and sister into the bathroom. Rajaan had brought a phone into the bathroom and called the police. Once they showed up, Clinton Steger (mothers ex) ordered the mother to answer the door. Once leaving she heard gun shots and Rajaan was dead. Steger had also committed suicide near the front door after killing the loved friend, son, and brother. Rajaan had been accepted for a scholorship to Vanderbilt college for playing football. He had a passionate love for his family and he proved that with his courage to protect them. This effects my community because innocent people are killed everyday. Tradgedies that could be avoided happed due to ignorant judgement of selfish individuals. I am personally affected because I could go through something tragic myself. I also put my family first before anything and I too am willing to die for them.

For my current event I will be doing how when men and women travel they are both prone to get different illnesses. Swiss researchers found that women are more likely to get thing like stomach problems and men are more likely to get fevers and sexually transmitted diseases. When doing this study though other factors had to be considered such as the length and area of the trip. Women are also more likely to treat their diarrhea or symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, so the researchers might not even know if more men has those kinds of problems because they may not have been reported. This connects to be because I would like to travel now and when I get older. When traveling I would I hope I wouldn't get sick because that can ruin a whole trip. I am also planning on going places for spring break this year and next year and if I were to happen to get diarrhea like the women in this study did I would be rather angry and it would put a downer on the whole trip.

For my current event i want to talk about the trainer that died at Sea World today. The trainer was 40 year old Dawn Brancheau. She was rubbing Tilikum after a noontime show when the 12,000-pound whale grabbed her and pulled her in. Because of his size and the previous deaths, trainers were not supposed to get into the water with Tilikum, and only about a dozen of the park’s 29 trainers worked with him. Brancheau had more experience with the 30 year old whale than most. She was one of the park’s most experienced trainers overall. Althought this is such a sad incident and horrible that an innocent trainer has died, i think its rong to keep killer whales in pools. No matter how big the pool is or whatever their not meant to be there. Its truely sad that animals have to be stuck somewhere they dont belong. I think circuses are wrong, animals should be able to do their thing where they should be. monkeys dont ride bikes on their own, tigers dont jump through fire and whales should lift people into the air; its not what their meant for. So how it rlates to me is basically ive been to dicovery cove where this happened and i liked the show, but i do think what were doing to animals is wrong.
