The quote, "Civility is not something that automatically happens. Civil societies come about because people want them to," by Jimmy Bise Jr definatly relates to the idea of survival. In order to survive people need to create a society. Societies don't just happen they need people who want them to happen. If people are trying to survive they need to all agree on wanting to create a society. People can't just expect that a society will be formed automatically. This quote relates to my life in many different ways. For example, if I want good grades I need to work hard and get good grades, I can't just expect to get them without doing anything. Also, my neighborhood is very close. I couldn't just expect all of my neighbors to get along, they had to want to get along. This quote relates to the idea of survival and can connect to many peoples lives.

I think that what this quote is saying that civility is not easy. It would be so much easier to disreagard civility, or to do what we please. To create structure and rules in life seems a lot less appealing. To have a civil society, its something you have to work toward. have a civil structure is something that has taken many of years to create. its just like every other thing in life, the harder it is, the greater the reward. the fact that the best things in life don't come easy, makes them that much more desirable. it takes desire and hard work to get the things we want most.

that quote by Jimmy Bise JR is a great example on survival. the key words that make this quote so relatable to civil societies is "because people want them to," and those words are key because in a civil society people need to be willing to change for the greater of the community. if people are not cooperating with each other there is that level of tension between people that is unecessary and some of that tension will lead to bad things down the road when your trying to survive. this quote relates to my life somewhat a lot because whenever i have to make a change in something then i always look for the consequences first then i decide, is this going to help me in the future? another way that this connects to me is whenever a teacher gives homework, in the back of my mind im saying f that but i know that i have to do it because i never want to start a conflict between somebody who has more power than me.

This quote is defiantly true. Over the course of time, people have come to create all types of governments. Governments are the key to a civil society because they place laws. It shows that people was civil societies because we wouldn't have created governments if we didn't. We also pass on civility through generation to generation. Our parents give us morals which we often follow. Since we were kids we also learned to follow laws. Our societies prosper when we are civil. We also gain the need to be civil.

This quote relates to survival because it is saying how we chose to act towards another person doesn't just happen we decide how we want to act in a society. People in a particular society/community chose to either be good to one another or treat each other badly. It's all about choices. People in a society chose to be civil because that is how they want to be treated. This connects to my life because I live by the saying, "what goes around comes around". I want to be treated with respect and politeness, therefore, I must offer the same to other's I come into contact with. My family, friends, and teachers that are apart of my daily life; how I interact with them makes a difference in my survival. To survive I need to have good things in my life. Also, our neighbors and people that we deal with in our community (stores, restaurants) learn the kind of person you are and make it possible for you to be successful. Ex. a restaurant that you frequent my have a job available and if they know you a hard worker you might have a good chance of getting hired. The people within a society determines how they want to be perceived.

I kind of agree to the quote, civil societies only appear when people want them to come around. Or when people can act civil towards each other. I think that there really isn't a "civil" society in existence. At the time humans are trying to be "civil" but many people just don't care about anyone but themselves. Only when there is no crime and hatred can there be an actual "civil" society. And when people start to care less about themselves and act more mindful of others can there be a "civil" society. If that can happen then people can surely survive.

I think that this quote meens that if you want something to hapen then you have to make it happen. Work together with people and make it happen. If they want civility to happen then that is something they have to work at to achieve. This idea is conected to survival in many ways. YOu have to be civil in order to survive in the wilderness. And that doesnt happen by its self you have to work at it for it to happen. THis also connects to my life. If i want something in life i have to work at it for that to happen. Whatever it is that i want wont just come to me.

Relating to survival, the quote is saying that you can't just wait around and think that civility will come to you. It is something you have to work for, and will come to you if you really want it to. If you are stranded and need to survive, like in our project, the people need to have a civil society to survive. In order to survive, everyone needs to work together. If there is chaos, then nothing is going to get done, and disputes will occur. Connecting to my life, this quote says that if I want something, then I have to work for it. Right now, I am looking for a job, and if I expect that someone is just going to hand me one, then I will never get hired. I have to do the work to get the benefit. This also applies to my school work. I can't go into a classroom thinking that I can pass without trying, because I can't. This also relates to befriending someone. You can't expect everyone to like you, you have to gain their trust and acceptance.

The quote, "Civility is not something that automatically happens. Civil societies come about because people want them to," from Jimmy Bise Jr relates alot about the idea of survival and everyday life. He is saying that if you want something to happen, you have to reach towards that goal. Nothing happens on its own. If you really want something, you have to work hard to get it. If you're stranded on an island, you you have to do everything in your power to live. You can't just wait for things to fall back into place, because they wont. You have to do something about it, just like in our society. The economic crisis going on right now is an example. When things were bad with the big 3 car plants, we wanted help, but people wished things would get better without ever really doing anything. It also relate to homework. I can't just expect to get good grades; i have to work for them.

Clare Pathe said...

I think this quote is saying that having civility isnt always easy. You have to want civility for it to happen. It is always much easier to do what we want, but if you want to survive, then you need to work together, and have a civil society. Things dont always come to you, you have to work for them and earn them, even if the task is challenging. Nothing is ever going to get done if everyone is doing something differnt or not doing anything at all. This quote relates to my life because in order to succeed in life, you have to work for it. I cant just expect teachers to give me an A on a test if i didnt study or try at all. I have to work hard to get the material and study, if i want to get a good grade.

This quote connects to my life in a way that means survival is not just based upon direct needs, it is so much more. If ever faced with a situation where I had to survive something, i would need food and water of course, the basic necessities, but also social interaction. I would need to play off others personalities so i could get a long with others' to create the best stress- free enviroment. All the survival tactics i have been learning in class would help me to realize the skills needed to survive in both a group and on my own. They would also help for the time after. Surviving is a way of life also. On a day to day basis we all face thousands of ways to die that we are unaware of. Simply noticing the most obvious of all these helps us get through everyday safely.

The quote "Civility is not something that automatically happens. Civil societies come about because people want them to." (Jimmy Bise Jr), relates to survival because having a civil community or group is vital to survival. Civility is not easily achived though, it is something that the whole group has to want to work for. Even though the laws and regulation that bring about civility don't seem very appealing when you want to go against them, they really do help hold a society together. If you end up stranded somewhere with a group of people, the first main concern should be to make rules that, if broken will lead to punishment. This way it is easier to keep the group together as a whole without having unnecesary tension. People who want to avoid this tension will want to creat a civil atmosphere for themselves and others. Them wanting to have this civil environment will make creating one possible. Civility is the number one tool in surviral.

This quote, by Jimmy Bise Jr, relates to survival in a lot of ways. In the quote it says, "Civil societies come about because people want them to." In order for people to want civil societies they had to survive first. Survival is what makes people want civil societies. People want to be safe in civil societies because they know what it's like without it. For me, I can't say I know firsthand what it's like to survive wihtout the civil societies we have today. Though I know I'd rather have a civil society than survive without it.

This quote very much relates to survival as well as our project. This quote means that societies don't just come out of no where. A civil society is something that is needed to keep order with a group of people. When in a survival situation, the person that is best fit to be a leader is chosen. Once they are chosen, they come up with some ground rules for everyone to follow. without a civil society, it would be chaotic. To have a civil society, you need people who wants to take on that job; someone who has a nuetral state of mind. A good example of this that can relate to me is grades. Getting bad grades or failing is way easier than getting good grades, but for me to get things that I want, I must get good grades.

This quote means to me that society is not something that comes about overnight. It takes a lot of time and a lot of people to start a functioning society. Villages, cities, states, and countries did not just occur because that is what happen to be. They came because people wanted to be civil and form a society to better their living. Someone somewhere wanted this civillized society so they could advance in living. This quote connects to the idea of survival because essentially you need civility to survive. You need to have some sort of society that you can connect with.

The quote "Civility is not something that automatically happens. Civil societies come about because people want them to"
by Jimmy Bise Jr relates to survival. It is related because without the survival of a groups of people there wouldn't be anyone to start a civilization. Also, the quote is right on the money when it says"societies come obout because people want them to". I think that because if people didn't want to live near one another they never would have created cities and towns. Societies are needed for may things. For example, people want to be safe so they move near other people for protection.

This quote can relate to the idea of survival. For us to have a societies we have to have people willing to make one. Someone willing to follow all the rules. We need to creat a strucuter of the way of life. To have a good society we need to have a ruler. Like the goverment, the persident, ect. We all have a say on who we want to control us. Someone to make the laws. A good societies comes from time. Effort, and good people.

Survival links to this quote because civility is brought upon yourself, if you dont want it theres ways to get out. Also, people use society for better survival. This quote relates to my daily life because i obviously need civility to survive. According to the survival skills thing in class, i would not be alive. I think this quote is saying that if u want to survive u will make the nessesary changes that it takes to do so. I also think it is saying that civilazation doesnt just happen. You have to work to make it happen. Now in my life we always "try" to be civil but it is not always that simple. I mean when you get really amd with someone your first thought is i want to hurt you. But to be civil we try to not let those thoughts occur. For us all to survive we have to be able to comprimise and be civil so that we can exist as a civilization. We as civilions have to work together to make a society work and function properly. A big part in a civilization is rules. sence civilization has been created there has been some type of rules or guid lines that we are ment to follow. That is why we can survive as a civilization because we all abide by the rules.

This quote by Jimmy Bise Jr I think means that cicility and peace dont just come naturally its somthing that is gained. You couldnt just put a group of people together and expect them to be civil with eachother and get along, they have to want to work at things. if people want things badly enough they will get them, make things civil. In my life i think that it mostly relates to privlages with my parents, if i want to have many privliges i have to be civil with my parents. I cant just walk around being a spoild little brat, it would get me no where, i wouldnt be deserving. I need to work with my parents and giv them respect. Survival would be somthing like that, if i was standed on a islad with people i dont know i couldnt walk around bieng a brat i would have to work with the people im with no matter what, i couldnt survive on my own.

I think that this quote means we choose if we want order in a community. It doesnt just come along but we must strive and desire it. I think in ancient civilizations and areas without government they decide if they want order. In my eyes civilizations become civil when therre is so much chaos and crime that people are sick of it and need to control it. You wouldnt survive without any order. I think the crime would be killing people and making poverty. Someone must have chhoosen order for their safety, survival and well being.

The relationship between survival and this quote is that the "civility" is showing regards to others. So i think that survival and civility relate because survival is not just about yourself but also about other people. Civil societies come together because people want them to and because people choose to be in them. A good example of civil societies is high school cliques and how people hang out in different societies. The way this connects to my life is what civil society do i live in it and how i survive. The civil society that i live in i think made me who i am to day. So i agree that civility doesn't come automatically you choose your own civility.

Hunter White said...

Well the quote means civility would not have happened unless people wanted them to. If people did not want to be together and survive we would never have been civilized. People needed to find survival tactics to become the way we are now. This connects to me because if I want something I need to want it to happen as well. If I wanted good grades I need to want it to happen. Not only will I need that I need to do it and establish what I want. This is how I feel about this quote.

Kaleigh S said...

This quote relates to the idea of survival when you are with a group of people. When multiple people are trying to survive, they can choose to just take what they can for themselves. That might include stealing from others or other uncivil acts. Most of the people have to want to create a civil society in order to make it work. If only a few people are pushing to have a civil society, the rest of the people will go off and do whatever they please. It takes a large group effort, so the more people who want to help create a civil society you have, the higher chance you have of creating one successfully.
The quote relates to my life because I want others to treat me correctly. I have to act civilized around others and respect them, or they will retaliate back in one way or another. To me, it's almost like the saying, "What goes around comes around." If I do something civil to someone, for the most part they will do it back.

The quote "Civility is not something that automatically happens. Civil societies come about because people want them to." by Jimmy Bise Jr relates to survival. It relates in a way that if a way of life is established and people can sustain themselves. Then there is the option of everybody wanting to stay there and establish a community. Like in lost, they had a community with regular activities and ways of life. And with all those people living there they wanted to establish that instead of just
always working to signal for planes, and finding ways out. This quote relates to my life in the way of getting done the stuff i need done. For example chores, grades, earn money etc. And while i just cant expect these things to come to me i have to work for them.

I believe this quote is saying that in order to make a successful society you must do many things to make it happen. There is a need of organization and leadership.
This quote relates to survival because in order for a society to survive they must make it able to in so many words. In the situation where you're stranded on a island with others, there is opportunity for rebellion, and conflict. Order must be established. Whether it is having a leader or establishing laws. Not all people agree on the same things and certain tasks must be completed to keep that peace.
This quote relates to my life as well. Civility means courtesy or politeness. In my world this means if I work hard enough for something I will get it. For example, good grades. If I study hard enough it will result in me getting an A. Many kids these days get things handed to them on a silver platter and that is not teaching them civility. It's very simple. In order to be a more civil person and lead a more civil life I must work hard and earn what I want.

This quote relates to the idea of survival in the sense that a community has to be civil to survive in the long run. Every other system that has been tried in the past where people have been acting out towards each other has collapsed and not been good in the long run. Sometimes it would be a lot easier to let everyone run wild and free with no rules but it just creates chaos. There has to be some system of government and order for survival. People have to want it and want to work at it. This connects to my life especially in my family. I have three younger brothers and sometimes were not always the most civilized towards each other. When I try to be nice though, they're nice to me back. To keep everyone happy and not fighting then we have to want to act nicely towards each other.

This quote is very interesting as it makes perfects sense if looked at and listened to in depth. The first part says, "Civility is not something that automatically happens" means that civility and other order is not free. We have to work to get it. The second part, "Civil societies come about because people want them to" ties right into the first part. So to achieve civility we must want to work for it. This may be why we don't have complete order in out society. While our society survives as is, it would be much better if people weren't lazy and they were willing to work through everything to make this place a just place where everyone gets along. But, as stated before, it is not free and it won't happen automatically. This relates to me because I can't just expect good grades to come. I have to work for them. This is the same with my friends. We all get along because we stepped forward and wanted to let them in our lives. This quote explains a very key part of how a peaceful life is possible.

The quote "Civility is not something that automatically happens. Civil societies come about because people want them to." relates to my life and the idea of survival in various ways. How this relates to me, is when I work for my dad. Even though I work for my dad, I don't just sit around and still make money, I actually have to work for it. In life, you don't just get things handed to you. In order to receive what you want, you have to show that you want it, work for it. If people in a jungle are trying to survive, the only way they'll get things done is if they, first agree on want to do, then you have to go and do it. However, if you were stranded your not going to get instant results, the longer and harder you work for something, the greater the results will be. People will have different ways to survive, some may going off on their own "For every man for himself" or some may want to form a society. They would form a society so they can have a plan. Two heads are better than one, but even more than two heads is even better.

To break down the quote into a deep understanding gives me the main idea of how a civil society should be ran in order to accomplish things. For instence, the word civility means to have cooperation and courtisty. In a society that deals with survival, you need all the help you can get in order to get to things. So if the people whom are trying to survive did not cooperate and agree on things it would really just get them no were, it would be like someone in a canoe only rowing with one or in the water. Were as if the people understood eachother and were polite they would have a better chance at reaching freedom.

Even now in life the big thing is civility. If we were not to have any laws or people were not to give hoots about anyone, there would be people killing others and all sorts of damage. That is why you should always follow laws given because by eliminating one person at a time from speeding, stealing or what ever will give us a cleaner and safer life stlye.

This quote is saying people are only civil when they want to. You can't make someone be civil, even with punishment like jail. They choose to do what they want. It is also saying that you can't live with out a semi-civil society. If we lived with out one everyone on the streets would be wild. But a civilized society isn't always an easy thing to accomplish.

This quote by Jimmy Bise Jr. is definately related to survival. Nobody can make it through life without a connection to other people. In order to bring people closer and to work together you need a society. Nobody will ever create a society with a group of unwilling people that could care less, this is why i believe that people have to want to be a part of a society for a society to emerge. Society is something that everybody is a part of. One way or another we are all linked together by a society, whether it be the school we go to, the community we live in, or even just our place of work. Society is the reason we are who we are, and the reason we all get by in life, without our society none of us would have our individuality or our pride. This is why i believe society is important and why society is related to survival and all of us.

I think that what this quote is saying is that Civilty is not easy to come by. It relates the survival idea because haveing civilty among a group of people is not the easiest thing to do. It takes time for people to ajust to a new setting and get to now the people they are with. When people are trying to survive its them that has to agree to themself that they are going to be civil with the people around them. Like to quote says "Civil societies comes about because people want them to" so if things sre going wrong and everything is coas them maybe the people dont to be civial, first they have to want Civilty.

I think that this quote is saying that the only reason we have laws, is because people want them. If we didnt have laws, we wouldnt live in a civil society. So, if we didnt want to live in a civil society we wouldnt have laws. If we all want to survive and live in a place where we are safe and relatively free, we need laws. This quote relates to evryones life, because we all live in a civil society. We all want to grow up and live in a safe society. Therefore, we all have to be part of and abide by the laws. It all boils down to laws. Without them, you can have a civil society.

Jimmy Bise Jr.'s quote, "Civility is not something that automatically happens. Civil societies come about because people want them to" argues against the idea that society easily creates itself. Civilization as we know it, would not be around if it were for determined and very smart, hard working leaders. Leaders like these, along with determined people and a lot of war, arguements, agreements and struggles were able to shape civilized society as we know it. It certainly did not come easy for them. This relates directly to the idea of survival in several ways. First of all, when major conflicts, disasters and anything that envoke change or a fight for survival, people tend to lose a huge amount of civilized sense. In many survival scenerios, it seems that people panic and forget how to handle things orderly, thus crushing the lines of a civil society. This connects to my life in many ways. One way, is the fact that throughout my life it seems that sometimes the hardest things in life, lead to the best rewards. If I want to achieve something I can not expect it to just happen, I have to want it enough to make it happen. The quote by Jimmy Bise Jr. relates directly to the idea of survival and connects deeply with my life.

I think this quote is saying civility doesn't just happen a group of people have to make it happen. However achieving civility doesn't happen easily. To make a society work it takes team work and cuoperation. Much like ancient civilizations i think this process of creating a society would be very slow and frustrating. An example of this would be making and after school mens volleyball program. it would take alot of effort to get everything situated and set up. Between getting enough players warning people when it is and getting gym time. This is a very small scale example compared to making a society but the point is it would take a very long time and would not be easy.

This qoute by Jimmy Bise Jr is similiar to survival. A part of this qoute says "Civil societies come about because people want them to". This means that If people want there to be civilized societies they have to work torwards it and learn to get along with each other. I believe that most people would not know what to do if they were forced to live in a non civilized way. I know I wouldn't. You have to become civil over time it is not something that happens over night. You have to learn how to survive on youre own, and not depend on other resources.

This is one of the many reasons that governments are established. In my life, I have to act civil to handle debates. If I act in a "not so nice" way, then why should people try to debate with me? We can handle each other much better if we are civil what we do.

In a society people need to work together to make a government work properly. When not being civil to another person things do you not go as planned. Meaning arguments will happen when not needed. Though, sometimes fights will still occur because not everyone gets along with everyone.

I totally agree with this quote for various reason. First off, you cant force civility. People need to realize this doesnt happen overnight. You need to come up with a plan and follow through with it. It helps if you all agree on how to run the society so theirs no problems. With this being said though every society needs its leaders. I relate this to sports team because a team is only as good as its leader. If a society doesnt have people lead you wont be succesful. Someone needs to come up with laws for all to follow. Noone is above the law. This will prevent all conflicts and help your society. be succesful.

The quote relates to the idea of survival in a number of ways. First of all, what the quote means is that societies don't just formed by mistake. They are purposely created because people want them to be. Society today is basicly a nesesity when it comes to survival. When it comes to getting our food, shelter, etc, we rely on one another in a funtioning system. How this relates to me is that I am part of that society and depend on it. People have to want to form groups. They can't just appear if there is no demand for it. I think it would go the other way too, as in chaotic societies are the way they are because people don't want to be controled or ruled.

This quote says a lot about survival. It points out that societies know we need civility to survive when it says "Civil societies come about because people want them to." Although we sometimes hate the things that come out of being a civil society, we know we could not survive without them. For example, i may not like the fact that i have to go 45 mph down Bogie Lake Road when im running late for school. But, i know that if that law didnt exist there would probably be a lot of car accidents and people injured. Laws like that help us coexist with the people around us with a limited amount of conflict. Its civility that holds the world together and without it there would be chaos.

I can relate this quote to how i live at home. A society isn't just the city you live in or the town, I believe it can relate to any organized group with two or more people. My house used to be very hecktic and really not civil. When I got tired of it I decided to move out. Me and my brother decided that we wanted our lives to be civil. So that's what we did. That's when i learned that civility isn't something that automaticly happens.

A civil society keeps us safe. We have laws to obey and codes of conduct to follow. If we didn’t follow those rules there would be chaos. For example we use traffic lights to control the flow of traffic. If people were to choose not to obey the lights then everyone driving would be in danger.
There are rules that run our school, like no drugs and no smoking and a code of conduct we have to follow. Imagine trying to learn when all the people in your school were both high and rowdy. You would never truly learn a thing. If you don’t pass your classes, you don’t get a good job.
Without a good job it is difficult to pay for housing, food, clothes and medical expenses. It makes it hard to survive. So yes, we choose our Civil Society because it keeps us safe.

The quote "Civility is not something that automatically happens. Civil societies come about because people want them to", relates really well to surviving because it not only shows that making a society takes time but in other situations, like surviving through dangerous conditions, can take time to set up and get organized. To start a society, you have to be determined. If you were traped on an island, you want to start a small society because you want to survive. I think that compared to starting a society is almost exactly how you would react to being stuck on an island with unknown people. You would have to take time to set up diffrent ways to keep surviving and ways to keep everyone from going completley nuts. In a society, the same thing applies. In relationship to me, I have homecoming coming up, and with all the people and plans we have, its chaos. So, we have to make a plan and make sure that we stick to it or else things will go bad and our homecoming plans will "fall".

This quote means exactly what it says. You can not have a successful civilization, unless the people truly WANT to make it that way. The people in the society have to all want to work for the same cause; their civilization to grow. If the people of a society didnt want to be civil, there is no one to make them. If the people actually want to have a civil society, then they will indeed have one, because they will make sure that it happens. It is that simple. It's kind of like the saying, if you set your mind to it, you can achieve it. So, to me, this quote means exactly what it says; its only going to happen if the people MAKE it happen.

This quote relates to survival by meaning that in the past, the best survivalist started civil societies. The people who started societies are the kind of leaders who think of their own people's saftey and creating civility was the best way to survive. Civil societies werent easy to get started. It takes organization and hard work to make it successful. A civil society couldnt be made in one day, it took time and patience. A civil society was the best way to survive because people worked together as one to thrive. In early societies, we know that people had different skills from one another. This caused trading goods and your place in your society.
