Another day of Fiddler. Today we really saw the idea of what happens when cultures change in regards to the whole matchmaking process. Not only did Tevye allow his daughters some choice but then we saw the whole idea of inter-dancing as well. Yet, at the same time, there were so many traditions at the wedding as well. The bride walking around the groom 7 times, the breaking of the glass at the end of the ceremony, the dancing, the toasts and the gifts. It is amazing how this culture was able to keep traditions while allowing some new ideas in as well. Juxtapose that with the reality that outside forces were beginning to come in and disrupt their way of life after them living there for so long. Why? Just because they were different than those in charge. The police chief seemed to really have a problem with what was being done to the Jews and seemed sympathetic to them yet, still followed through on the orders to raid them. Thus our questions for the evening:
Why do you think the Russian leadership was so against the Jewish people and their way of life? If you were the policeman what would've you done after being given the orders to raid? Why do you think he did it even though he did not want to? What do you think his relationship with Tevye and the Jews will be after this experience?

I believe that the Russians just wanted to sustain the Jewish way of life. In my opinion, the raid was to keep the Jews from advancing in the society. If I was a policeman, I wouldn't have raided the wedding. In my opinion, a change is always good for a society. The Jews, especially needed to advance from their old ways. I don't think the policeman would have done the raid if it was his personal choice. I think the relationship won't really change too much between Tevye and the Jews though.
the reason i think that the Russians destroyed the town were because they were jealous. i think they wanted to celebrate to. i also think that they wanted to put fear in the town and just show the town what they were capable of. If i was a cop and being ordered around by someone that just destroyed my town i think i would shot the man that gave the orders to destroy the town. i think if i was to shot the man in charge the people taking orders from him would quit. i think the people in the town need to become less traditional. they should get into the 20th century.

I think the russians just were trying to get everyone live the way they think is right. They think they live the proper life so they must harm people who dont think like them. If i were a policeman and i was giving the order to raid i would. I would do this just beacuse my country wanted me to. I think he did it because he did not want to let down his country and then he had to show he wasnt afraid. I think everyone will dispise him because he did a bad thing he lied to tevye which made it even worse.

i think the russian leadership dislikes the jews for one reason: they fail to accept jesus christ as their lord and savior. but seriously this time, the russians dont respect the jewish community, and the fact that they change for noone. if i was the policeman, i think i'd obey my orders, and have a little fun. and see what happens with my relationship. he did it so he could keep his job. his relationship will become strained. but the jews are so senile, they will accept the officer back as a friend.

The Russian leadership could possibly be racist DUH. I think what the police did was wrong. But i also think he did what he had to to keep his job. All in all it was extremely selfish. I think his relationship with the Jews is horrible. They raided there town. what do you think there relationship is like? I wouldn't be in the town if i were the officer.

I think the russian leaders were against the jewish people because they were diffrent than them. Also, I think because the jewish people were happy. The russians were jelous of them and didn't like it. If I were a policeman and was given orders to raid I probally would have raided and done my job. Without the job there would be money. The russian policeman could be forced to do it and murderd if they disobeyed. I think there relationship will be destroyed because you don't crash a wedding. I do think though that the town should andvance in technology but keep their own beliefs and traditions.

I think the Russian leader ship was so against the Jews because they follow tradition and wont give into to change. If I were the police man and given orders to raid I would follow with those orders because my job is better than some stupid village. I think that the police cheif went through with the orders because he doesnt want to loose his job. I think that his relationship wont be very good with the jews because he messed up a wedding and destroyed their village. Also his relationship with Tevye will be even worse because he interupted his daughter wedding and ruined the reseption. The policeman will not be welcome in the jews village like he was before.
I think the russians raided the jews because the russians don't like how the jews live their life. The russians obviously think that there is only one way to live and that is like them. Another reason the russians did this is to show the jews who is boss. They want the jews to fear them. If I were the police guy and I got the order to go into the village and destroy it would be tough to decide what to do. It's tough because you know in your own mind that it is not the right thing to do but you have been given the order to do it. The policemen basically has to do this.
I think that the Russian leadership was so against the Jewish people because their way of life and culture are different than theirs. If I were the policeman, I would have probably followed the orders to raid because you have to follow orders. Also you would get the feeling of turning your back on your countrty. I believe he did it because of that reason. Tevye would be happy beause the cop warned him before hand. The Jewish people would be angry at the Russians. They would see them as bad people and never trust them again.
I think the reason why the russians destroyed the town is because they disliked the jews. I also believe that the russians did not believe or have the same concepts or beliefs that the jews had. If i was a russian soilder and i was given orders to riad. And i would have raid the town. I think he raided the town but he didnt want to is because he had orders to do so. And he didnt want to lose his job or get kicked out of town. Tevye and the Jews will be after this experience. The jews will be very anger with Tevye and will not forgive him.
I think the russians wanted to stop the jewish way of life. The raid was to stop and mix up the jews way of life. If he hadnt of ride the life so manything would have been different and might have been a lot more horible beacuas the guy would of has someone different do it. i think he did it so he wouldnt get in trouble and because if he didnt he new the guy would send someone different to do it and then it would be really bad for the jews. i think there relationshit wont be as good even tho that he wornd him.

I thought that the Russians were so against the way of life of jews because it wasn't there way of life. They could have also been afraid that maybe the Jews could over come the Russians. I think i might have followed the orders to a certin point. The reason why the policeman followed his orders is because if he didn't listen, he would have lost his job and looked down upon. I believe that Tevye will be looked down upon, and no one ccan trust him. Even though he let him know what was to come, he could have stopped it all together. He could have refused to and start a riot.
I think that the reason for the russians raiding the jews is because they didnt want the jews to change their way of life. The jews were beginning to change their ways very slowly and one at a time. I think that everyone can see that and is trying to stop it becuase they dont want jews to overpower. I think that the policeman had done it because he was doing what he was told, although he didnt want to and it wasnt his choice. I think he wanted to show that he wasnt gunna back down for his country and that he was gunna do what he was told to keep people looking up to him. If i was him i wouldnt have done it because it hurt a lot of poeples lives and kind of ruined the wedding. I dont think the relationship will change because they will still forgive him for what he had done.
i think that the russian leadership wanted to pursecute the jews because to them their tradition were completly different. the russians thought that their way of life was the right one and were trying to keep the Jewish traditions and other traditions from mixing. if i was the polieceman i think that i would have raided the party but done it differently. i would not have done it because they were jews i honestly would have done it no matter what group they were and if you dont like it then tough. i would have done this for a couple of reasons. the first of them being that if i was friends with them and if i didnt do i would have to go somewhere else then i would do it to stay. i also would have done it because that was what my job was and not doing it could lead to serious consequences such as previously listed. the polieceman also warned the father well in advance so in a way it could have all been avoidied. i would have done it differently by not destroying everything i would i just came and told them that it was over and either to go back home and have a much smaller celebration or go to jail. although the jail part would be an empty threat the whole purpose of it would be to get them to go inside so that way everyone wins. i think that their relationship has definatly changed because even if they work it out they still might have some doubts about the other and that always leads to destruction.

I think the Russians leadership was so against the Jewish people ways of life, because it was different then there’s. I think the Russians were getting tired of them not knowing what going on in the world. I don’t think it was right what the Russians did to the Jewish people. If I was a policeman and I was giving orders raid I don’t think I would do it. But then again I might if I knew what the punishment was for not doing it. I also think he had no chose to raid that why he did it. I believe the relationship between the Tevye and the Jews aren’t going to be good after that.

I think the Russian leader was so against the Jewish way of life, because it was so different from what he was used to. It was out of his comfort zone, and because it was not his way of life, it was just automatically not right in his eyes. If I were a policeman and was given the orders the raid, I would probablly refuse, because just because you are told to do something, does not just make it the right thing. They all had there own heads on their shoulders, and they could have all had seperate opinions instead of just listnening to what their leader told them to do. Sometimes you just have to do as your told though, even though you know in your heart it is the wrong thing. Im guessing this is what the policeman were feeling in their cases. I think after this experience, his relationship with the Jews will be much lessened, and they will probabbly have lost all respect for him for what he has done to their village.
i think the Russians want everyone to be like them. they dont like how the jewish population live, and fallow tradition. and for the policeman i feel that his relation ship with the jews may be hurt, but now lost. because the policeman was only doing his job. and he gave tevey a heads up on when it was gana happen. and the policeman went through with the raid because he was told to do so and he was doing his job.
Why do you think the Russian leadership was so against the Jewish people and their way of life? If you were the policeman what would've you done after being given the orders to raid? Why do you think he did it even though he did not want to? What do you think his relationship with Tevye and the Jews will be after this experience?
I think that the russians were completley jealous of how much fun they were having at the wedding and how the jewish party wasnt following every single tradition and stepping out side of their comfort zones to make things a little more comfortable and exciting. If i were one of the policmen and i got the order to raid the wedding i wouldent feel comfortable with doing so because it was a very special night and to ruin something like that would be completely fucked up and rude. i think he did even though he dident want to because it was his job and its hard to find a well paying job where they live because its a very poor town. i think his relationship with the jews after that happend will be shitty because that was disrespectful and ignorant.

To me, the Russians were against the Jewish way of life because of how different it was from their own. Try telling an American that something that they believe in is false, such as their religion, and see what they do; it's generally something with negative connotations as it is not their way of thinking, their way of life. If I were a policeman ordered to raid, I would most likely do it for the sake of my career, however I would not agree with it. I know what you're thinking: "Take a stand, Ryan!" But how many people could honestly refuse their orders? Money is money, and people will do nigh anything for it. After the experience, I think that the Jews will obviously dislike him, and justly so.
I think the Russian leadership was so against the Jewish and their way of life because it was so polar to the way they choose to live their own lives. The Russian leadership were uncomfortable with unordinary new ideas, oppossed to the tradition they are used to. To them, it was simply wrong and uncalled for and they could not cope with what was going on. If I were the policeman after being given the orders to raid I would have choose not to do it. Personally, I always follow what I believe it right in my heart, so I would not raid. The policeman might have just been scared and want to follow what he was told, but I am not a follower, I would lead the situation and follow what is right to me. His relationship with Tevye and the Jews from now on from the experience, I think is going to be much different and the trust is all vanished.
