Today we began our cultural discussion on Mexico. Yesterday, we came up with things we knew about Mexico and today we discussed true things about Mexico. Isn't it interesting when some of the stereotypes you think of are found to be wrong? To realize the wealth of Mexican culture and how strong their people truly are is amazing based on what we think we know from the news.
Why do you think it is important to learn about other cultures? What surprised you about the Mexican culture the most after reading? What is one thing you are going to do for yourself this weekend to honor making it through the first week of school (appropriate)?

I think that it is important to learn about other cultures so you know what others believe, that you are more/less fortunate than others, etc. It surprised me that they bathe in creeks. It also surprised me that the people in the cities do much of the same things that we do: school, go to the movies, and practice sports.
This weekend I am going to spend at my grandparents. (BORING!!!)
I believe it is very important to learn about other cultures because you learn how other people live. My neighbors are having an exchange student live with them and i found it very interseting to learn about his life. Like what foods he ate and some of his belifes that he shares. What i found most suprising about the reading was that they didn't invent tacos and eat them as much as i thought. I also learned that they were poor but still very happy. This weekened i am going to be at the football game and hanging with friends. I am glade that it is friday.

It is important to learn about other cultures because it is good to know how other people live on the other side of the world. What suprised me about mexican culture was that they make most of their money from sugar cane. Also I was suprised that they go and celebrate one of their most famous holiday having a party in a cemetary. This weekend I will be going to my hunting spot in port huron and set up my tree stand and get ready for bow season.
Learning about the ways of other cultures is quite important for a few reasons, the most prominent being that without such learning we would not have anything to compare and contrast our own to. Our culture is very fortunate, and very self-centered, whereas the culture of Mexico is nearly the opposite. I was very surprised to learn that Mexico was almost completely different than I had imagined it, however stereotypical my imagining was.
In just a few minutes I'll be leaving to pick up my best friend, his girlfriend, and my girlfriend, and then I'll be on my way to Mercy High School for a school dance. It should be a fun night. As for the rest of the weekend, I haven't a clue what I'll be doing.
I think that the most important aspect of learning about other cultures is that it opens our minds to other ways of life. As Americans, we are extremely close-minded to new things, like sushi for example. I love sushi, but most people don't because of the raw fish. They have not necessarily tried it before, but because it's different, it disgusts them.
The largest thing that surprised me about the Mexican culture is how happy they are even with how little they have. For me, personally, I can't imagine being without my iMac or MacBook, my Passat, my iPod, (I hate phones and TV, so I'm alright without those,) or all of my books. For the majority of Mexicans, they aren't able to have these things but they're still happy. I envy them for that, I hate the fact that we, as consumers, have so much stuff we don't need and end up throwing most of it out and ruining our environment. I'd love to have no computer, make my own music, have a nice bicycle to ride everywhere and to grow and harvest real food instead of the preservative-, MSG-, high fructose corn syrup-, sugar- and junk-laden foods that we eat. I think that we could learn a lot from many cultures about living simply, and living simply to live.
On a lighter note, I, for the weekend, will be sitting in front of my Mac finishing a website that I was working on for my parents' auto-repair shop as well as helping them out and begging them to teach me how to drive a standard-transmission in one of the BMWs that are going to come in for an oil change on Saturday.
I think it is very important to learn about other cultures. It helps us learn about other areas of the world and what it is like there. It was quite a supprise to me that most of Mexico is alot like the USA. It was also interesting that they ate alot of tortillas...i always thought they ate other things. Ahh this weekend im working then hanging out with friends more than likly.

I know how great mexico really is now. they have many great things to do and a nice unique way of life. I was not too suprised about how a majority of the people live though. i also figured they wernt to far apart from us (the U.S.). Its nice to hear that there a group of people that is very family oriented for how they live. I was most suprised about it when i read the saying "we are poor but happy people", it was a big shock.
Oh..and for this weekend i think i relax and sleep in.
I believe it is so important to learn about different cultures around the world. So that we don't get stuck in this mind-set that everywhere is just like America, we have to be involved. Because our country is definietly a one of a kind, just like every other country and culture that goes along with it. It is good for us to learn about what is going on with our people around the world and what different things we can learn and take from them to make us stronger and better people. Every culture is so unique and different that I think we should all be mixing ideas and trading beliefs, etc to really become more diverse. One thing I found very interesting about Mexico is that the boy telling his story did not speak as though he was living in poverty and living on nothing, which he most likely was. He just spoke about his country as though he loved it and he really didn't know it any other way.
Something I am going to do this weekend is hangout with my friends and shop! :]]]
I think it is important to learn about other cultures. We should learn about other cultures because its a different way to look at things from another persons perspective. If we learn different cultures it will make people not so judgemental. We need to respect other peoples cultures as they should do the same in return. The weekend went by to fast. I wish it was friday again...
it is very important to learn of other cultures. it helps us break common sterotypes, like mexicans being lazy. we learn how others do things. and it helps us understand others around us. this weekend i helped lakeland come in 1st in the avondale invite.

It's vital to learn about other cultures to have knowledge of other ways of life. The thing that surprised me most about Mexican Culture was that how they were wealthy. I honestly did not know that. Since I did not make it through the first week of school, I guess I have no reason to celebrate. I missed two days the first week because of step. I also had to miss our frist away game. I spent the weekend resting and being sick. Not a good way to start the school year, but oh well.

I think it was loads of fun and very important to learn about other cultures to learn about other ways of life and to realize how good we have it in the United States. The thing i was suprised about mexico was that they are not as poor as i thought they were, oh and that they dont at tacos as much ;) but, everyone has judgments im sure even on use that are not true. this weekend i really thought about how i need to do good in school and pass. even though i might not graduate im still going to try my hardest. i worked friday and sunday, saturday spent time with the fam. and boyfriend

I think it is important to learn about other cultures so that you know the truth about. we cant always listen to the news and what not. I think its important to learn about how they live, and there every day life. People listen to the media to much and dont learn the truth about other cultures. what i found the most interesting about the reading was, that Mexicon culture was that they do alot of the smae stuff we do but they are very poor but happy
Why do you think it is important to learn about other cultures? What surprised you about the Mexican culture the most after reading? What is one thing you are going to do for yourself this weekend to honor making it through the first week of school (appropriate)? It is important to learn about other cultures so that you don't stereotype people of different races. It is also important just to have the knowledge of other cultures. The thing that suprised me the most about the mexican culture is that not all of them are poor. I didn't think that all of them were poor I just pictured poor people when I heard Mexico. And for the weekend I am going to watch football!!!!!!!! and stuff.
