Day 3
Today's discussion of the "Cannabilism" article was interesting. It is amazing that people your age live such a different life. In regards to that, discuss the things you take for granted in your life and why you think that happens. How has our culture created this sense of entitlement which was seen in the article but in a much more negative sense?

We take way to much for granted. Some people get made and think they have the worst life. When in reality they dont. I also take things for granted i think i have it bad when my dad won't let me go somewhere that i want to. I think that most people should read that article and see what bad is. I think if most people read that article they wont htink they have it bad any more.
I think to many people take things for granted. Like when they dont get to do something or go somewhere. I'm not going to lie i take things for granted as well. I get upset when my mom makes me stay home and not go out with friend. People also take things for granted on what they have, like if someone has something better then them. They go around thinking that all the good things they have isnt good enough. I think are culture has become this way because of the way most of us were raised and all the opertunitys around us.

Many people take things for granted and I know that I am one of them. I take all the things i have and that are given to me for granted. I also take my family for granted because they give me a lot of things such as a car, money, freedom and fun. Many kids aren't able to have those kinds of things. I think that many people act like that because their expectations are too high. People need to realize that things could be so much worse. Especially if you lived in a place like Liberia.

I don't think people relize how mutch they take for granted before it allready come around to bite them. I take everything for granted including my girlfreind, freinds, and family. I think that kids should be well aware of what there taking for for granted or you could end up becoming a selfish/bad person. Our culture pretty mutch alows us to do or use whoever we want just like the war let happen to the war childrean.

We as americans take alot for granted. as we have alot more chances to obtain things like phone and even fresh water. in some places such as mexico they arnt luckey to have fresh drinkable water for everyone, and thats something we dont drink often because we like the taste of other drinks better. a good protion of the world doesnt live in houses like we do, most find any shelter they can use. i think we should all take time to understand what people live like and see how much that we throw away every day that others around the world may never see.
I think most Americans take their lives for granted. This is because of how our culture and people are. We take things like electricity and clothing for granted because that was how we were raised. People in Liberia and poor countries are used to their conditions since that's how they were brought up. I believe if more people realized how bad the conditions are in other countries, they wouldn't take their lives for granted as much.
In todays society we take many things for granted. We truley don't know how much we have until we see all these other countries struggling. I take having a place to live, food, and my family in for granted sometimes. This article really opened my eyes and made me see how easy we really have it. Some of these kids in the article even grew up with not having a family or parents to be there for you. It made me appricate everything I have. Are culture is like this because of the way we live and how we were brought up.

The things in which we take for granted are many and close between, especially my generation. My peers generally are rewarded their first car from their parents, a driver's license to drive that car around, their insurance paid by their parents, and things of that nature. And still do they not appreciate the value of a gift, the generosity of a grant, nor the kindness of a loan. I see many a person scoff at a Christmas gift that they hadn't asked for solely because they did not want such an item.
I, myself, take very few things for granted to due the predicaments and situations that my family and I are currently involved in, however this does not mean that there exist none. I think I take my life for granted more than anything, as I rarely truly stop and think of how grateful, appreciated, loved, and cared for I am and the fortunes that welcome me.
In regards to what I take for granted, I feel that it would be overly conceited on my part to say that I do acknowledge what I take for granted. What I know that I take for granted is the fact that I have electricity, a computer, a house, home-made food, a car, even, I must say, a family. The reason that I feel that my generation is as self-obsessed with buying frivolous items is because we are becoming more and more materialistic and self absorbed due to the media exposure. Parents feel obligated to provide us with what we want because they weren't lucky enough to have when they were young or, for not being there all the time for their children because of their careers.
Our culture's sense of entitlement stems from this sense of obligation that parents feel. For example, a typical parent would feel guilty or even consider him or herself a "bad parent" for never taking their child to Disney World simply because it seems that everyone else takes their child there. Also, it comes from the fact that manufacturers and retailers make it easy to some extent for Us, the consumers, to be able to buy their products. And, even if we can not afford it, it is made available to buy on CREDIT/CHARGE. Most or I should say almost all children, teenagers and adults alike in the U.S. are exposed to TV ads and commercials, which tempt us further to long for and buy things that we really don't need and most likely never will appreciate.

I think that alot of things for granted. The biggest one.. life. i personaly have a great life family, friends, shelter excedra. if i didnt have all thoes things that make me me i would be a totaly different person. thoes kids have no real family no family disiplin no parental supervition, and i think a lot of Americans take that for granted
With today's technologies there are many things that americans take for granted. Many things that we take for granted is having a home, going to school, using the internet, having electricity. Alot of third world countries struggle to have those things or dont have them at all. Most americans think that those things are a given. People dont relize how lucky they are to be born in america. Just imagine what it would be like to live in Liberia. It would suck.
I believe that almost every single person in this country takes at least something in their life for granted. It's so easy to get caught up in the moment in this country because it is so great, we tend to forget about what is really important in life. In my life I take so much for granted,
like having such a wonderful family, ya there are a few things wrong with it, but I believe God only put these obstacles in my life to teach me something that will be needed in the future. I take my home, great education, having food on the table everyday, just every little thing you could imagine, we take it for granted. Kids in third world countries have close to absolutely nothing and they do not complain, they go on with life as that is the way it was meant to be. Reading this article, it made me realize how different our beliefs are from Liberia and how much different right from wrong is to us then it is to them. Most of them have no family and live there lives killing others to gain power and think it is no big deal. in our country that would be a huge deal and no one would ever stand for it. It goes to show how good we have it, and don't even realize it and really teaches us that we have a lot to be grateful for in life.
Your starting to sound like my mom.
But anyway, in my life i take many benefits for granted. Foremost, my education. I guess i cant really grasp the concep of how lucky I am to receive a free education. i also take my license, truck, job and money for granted.my freedoms as an American are also a huge asset to me. my Great Lit teacher, and coach are also very helpful to me. and i love him. not afraid to say it.
I believe that I take too much for granted. People everywhere around me are less fortunate than I am. I thought it was sad when a family was broken up by divorce, now I see even worse; both parents dead because they were forced into the army! Many times I am not happy because I can't have a friend over, go to the mall, etc. but I think that the people in Liberia have it a lot worse than I do!
In our lives I think we take way to much for granted. Alot of the time ill get mad at my parents for not letting me do somthing I wanted to do. Then I think my life is one of the worst when really ill bet there is somone out there who would do anything to have a better life. Some people think they have it so bad they want to end their lives. All you need to do is think of all the people that have it 10 times worse than you. Also a common thing for todays age is teenagers with thier licence. Many teenagers have/ get there parents to pay for insurance and possibly gas...most really fail to realize how much of a value that is to have.

I think many people take things for granted. People think they have it so bad and they really don't. They don't take the time to think about people liveing in different countrys and they don't have a place to live or food or fresh water to drink or even a family. Our culture lets ous be who ever we want to be. People need to realize that they don't have it that bad and realize that it could be a lot worse.
i think that many people take things for granted because as they grow they were raised in a way were they get to much of what they want. some of the things we take advantage of today is what we get to do and what we have. back in the day there wer'nt any computers or ipods or anything else like that and because we have so much more technology now we can do anythign with the touch of a button in stead of actually working for it. Compared to the article we lead very easy lives. If one of those kids moved here from Liberia they would be amazed by how much we take things for granted. i think that if more people read this article and others like it they would realize what they think is bad is nothing compared to some other people out there.

I think we take just about everything in life for granted. We take our daily meals and shelter for granted. People think that because they got homework or had a bad at work or school that their life completely sucks. When most people wouldn't last a second being homeless or in Liberia without complaining or pulling out their cell phone or something. Our culture has created this sense of entitlement because our population has been isolated and given an obnoxious ego. We think because we don't have terrorists running around that we are the best in the world. I think if we were to switch places with another culture for one week we would completely fail and be absolutely devasted with what is going on in the world.

I think American take for granted are the lives how some disrepect there parnets. We also take money for granted is money. So kids spend it like money grow on trees. How gas prices are higher because gas stations want more money. If people start to realise about these tings I tink people would stop taking them for granted.

In our lives, we grow up with many things that make our lives easy. People don't realize how much techknowledgey revolves around our every day routine. I believe that everyone takes many things for granted such as running water. With that said, I too take alot of things for granted. Electricity for instince is what almost every American needs to go through their day, and if not, then everyone would be scared because they don't know how to live without it.
Every person takes their life "for granted" to some extent. The youth of America lives life with such a different attitude then the African youth does. Most often we take for granted things that we think we deserve without doing anything. Simple things like shelter, food, water. There are other things we take for granted that aren't so "simple" too. Things like freedom of speech, religion, press, and happniness. The article reminded me of one of my favorite documents Invisible Children. Only in the sense of how badly African Youth and people in general are struggling and there is nothing much being done about it. I think it is rediculous when people are upset with the little things in life.
What runs through your mind when your parents say YOUR GROUNDED! or im taking your phone away for a week? well i know what goes through mine, my life SUCKS! but does it really...? not one bit. I think people in America take SO many things for granted it makes me sick. thw things we have in the u.s.a people dream about in differnt countries. Freedom of speech, freedom of work, free education, the right to do practically what ever we want, is that right... in my eyes no. No matter what someone has they always want more and thats just life. we will continue to live that way for the rest of our lives, thats just life.
-Lyns
There are a lot of things that I take for granted now that I never used to. Some people get mad and say something like they hate their life. This only happens because they are so mad at that moment. I think if people read this article they will see how bad it can get. People who read this will value their life so much more. Next time they get mad at their parents for not letting them go somewhere or something just think of the article. That is how bad it can actually get.
