Day 11

It is funny that I really do miss being in the classroom on days when I am out. I really enjoyed and was honored to be at Challenge Day today. It always amazes me the great students we have at Lakeland High School. Yet, we have a ways to go to make our school comfortable for everyone. What do you value about our school? What are things that you think Lakeland does well? What are areas where it could improve? Lastly, what could you do to promote positive values within the school?

I value that our teachers try to help us learn. They could just make us do stuff out of the book everyday but that would be boring. They actually care. If we need extra help they would definitly help us.I dont know what our school could improve on. I dont really promote positive or negative values in school. I go to school and do the things I have to do while trying to have fun.

What I value that I am learning things in school that will help me in the future. What Lakeland does well is most of the teachers there are good ones. What it could improve on is give kids more time in the hall. Also start later end earlier. Give kids more freedoms than they have now. What I could do to promote positive values in the school is not fight. Also make sure kids do not bully others.

The thing that I value about our school is that the teachers are always concerned with how you are doing. If a teacher notices that you havn't been doing well in a class they will always try to help you. Things that I think lakeland does well are of course adademics, and the football team is friggen sweet. The coaches of the football team are always stressing that school work comes first. There are a few areas where the school could improve. Things you can do to promote positve values in the school are to listen to your teachers, and try hard in school.

I value the well-mannered people at the school. I also value how teachers are always willing to give you individual attention if you need it. However, in my 3 years of attending Lakeland, I have found some teachers (who will remain nameless) are simply lazy. These are the types of teachers that don't do much teaching at all. Instead, we get worksheets mainly daily, and watch a lot of videos, while they go about doing their own business. Lastly, I could promote positive values in school by respecting everyone regardless of their own manner. A little bit of respect can go a long way.

the thing i like the most about our school is the general pace and orginization of things, yet at time it might be quite hectic. i think lakeland involves the students relatively well, but still has much room for improvement. we dont just go to lakeland to learn, but to network, become social, and develop our future life. we could improve in involving our students more as a whole in the decision making process. and become more interactive. we should be alloud to choose what we want as a student body. not just leadership. i feel i promote positive values by taking things lightly, and not allowing things to get to me. we should have more activities that require students to work together for the common good.

I value the fact that are school is so well kept up and nice looking. We could be going to schools in Detroit or Redford that have metal detectors and cops at each entrance that check every person that walks through. Our school could improve the trust that they give the students. Teachers and staff don't let kids wear hats or hoods because it could be gang related or something. Really I think that's just not neccassary. Students wear hats like they wear hoodies, because they like them. We live in an area were gangs are the golf clubs and sports teams. If you look at schools in worse areas they have the same strictness as us and yet we don't fight and stab people on a daily basis.

I value the choices you get to make. You get to pick what classes to take and what you find interesting. I feel like Lakeland has good teachers that care about you too. I also feel like the teachers really want to help you and see you exceed in school. We could improve on making the class more interesting. I feel like kids aren't motavated enough with school. I would help to stop bullys and stop rumors.

What I value from Lakeland is all the teachers and staff who work hard everyday (most of the time). They are all commited to helping kids get an education. Lakeland does well in many areas such as "Challenge Day". The school always finds creative ways to bring the students together, and also have fun. Areas that the school could improve on is the new tardy rule. There are also other things such as locking half the bathrooms. What I could do to improve on promoting positive values is to treat every student fair and everyone the same nomatter who they are or what their background is.

The things I value that our school are how friendly the staff and some of the kids there. How the principle try’s to keep our school save so no one gets hurt. How the teachers that help us to pass and teach us different things. That is one thing are school does well. The teachers will take out the time for each kid if the kids ask to. One thing that could improve is how small the schools lockers are. It’s hard to get to your locker sometimes because they are so close together. Another is how small the hallways are you can hardly get through. I could promote positive values by being nice to others. Standing up for someone if they are getting picked on.

Since I was lucky enough to attend Challenge Day I completly agree that our school has a ways to go on the comfortable factor. Although, I do value at Lakeland the fact that most of my teachers go out of my way to give individul help and attention. Things I think in general Lakeland does well at is organized events such as the Pep Assembly's, ect. The area's it could improve in are people reaching out to people. So simple, yet so complex. A simple "hi" i'm sure would sufice, and could quiet possibly make someone's day or week. I think the Lakeland stundents are to cought up in what's "cool" and what's not. Postive values I could promote in the school by doing my part to stop rumors or gossip I hear day in and day out. I could also like I said continue to go out of my way to greet people. A postive attitude and outlook on school can truely change the way you look at a "routine" lifestyle.

The thing I value at our school is the staff. They are almost always nice and there to help who you need it and sometimes even when you dont. They dont just blow you off and act like they dont care. Somethings i believe lakeland does well are how the staff interacts with the students. As well as eveyone one trys to get involved with as much as they can. They also take the time and help students well when is needed. Somethings We could do to promote positive values is by talkin about them in class or putting posters up around the school.

The one thing that I value most at our school is the educations that we are getting, and being from oregon, it sure does become something you value. The schools there are horrible compared to schools here in Michigan. Not that there aren't good aspects of schools there, but over-all Lakeland is an great school whether people choose to aknowledge that or not. I think we do a very good job at keeping the bullying a minimum, every school you go to you will get a similar bulling and steriotype thing, but Lakeland isn't as dramatic as many schools are. Not that there should even ever be any bullying at all, but since there is honestly no way we can completely bring all types of bullying to an end, I think we do a great job at preventing it and keeping it out. But we could improve on the judgement of others. Being at Challenge Day today really put into perspective for me that you really really have to dog deep into someone like we did today to actully understand why they are the way they are, or why they do the wierd things you think they do. We learned about everything that happened behind closed doors that you could never guess about anyone, and it was an amazing experience. So I just hope after that, we can really try to not be so quick to judge people by there covers and really get to know them first. To promote positive values on the school, I think you need to be the change that you wish to see, so that is where it all starts. If we want things to be changed, we need to be the ones who lead and really try to have a positive impact on our school.

Things that I vaule in my school well there are many things like the teachers and and we are learning things that will help us make something of our lives. I also value that teachers will take time to help u. Another value that this school has that some don't is that u get to choose your own classes and you don't get stuck with a class u don't want. Some things I think they need to improve is give more time to get to class and start first hour a little later to make mornings easier. They also need to stop giving us work sheets I think they are a waste of time all you do is look for the answers and you don't even read it. And then when u have a test on it u don't know anything.

things that i balue about our school are the students, teachers, and the acidemics. are teachers care about us. they help us when we need help, and can joke around some times. students help the day go by faster you get to see your friends inbetween calsses. they also help the teachers by learning and showing the teachers they are doing there job right. and last but not least, i love the acdemics like the football and baseball team. all the coaches do and exilent job on coaching us and helping us get better and to move on and get better. that is what i value about Lakeland. i show positive values by wearing lakeland cloths and supporting the lakeland teams.

I value my comfortableness at Lakeland High School; each and every day I come into school with a smile (albeit half-assed because, let's face it, I'm tired when I arrive) and a positive mindset, and it's that positivity that I feed off of to make me comfortable. There are students that make me want to scream and throw punches, but that's a small minority. I think that Lakeland's academics are taught to us very well. I can honestly say that I learn something new each and every day, and it's because of my teacher's helping me to understand the material and discussions and whatnot, however Lakeland staff could improve on starting debates within the class, or class discussions based on the material that we've read and such. I think that class discussions help me to remember the most important parts of a work much better than just taking notes or reading it, because we're applying what we read in an intellectual, intelligent conversation. Lastly, to promote positive values within our school I think that we could all take a page out of each others' book, and respond to situations with positivity as opposed to pessimism. Many a student hates school, and if we just got rid of that negative mindset then we would be fine.

I value the fact that most of the teacher body actually wants the student to learn and be sucessful. Also I think Lakeland has a fairly good student body. Most of all though everytime I have needed help there has been a teacher there to help me and they dont bikker about it either. Even though it could be after school or whatever I do appreciate the willingness of teachers to allow the student to learn and get it. There are not a whole lot of areas needing improvment but if somehow there could be more motivation in the end of the year I bet it would help alot of students becuase most tend to loose it the last month and a half. To promote positive values would be to get rid of the negativness most students have about school and maybe do more fun activitys like homecoming that actually gives students somthing to look forward to and have fun.

What I value most about Lakeland is that most of the things we learn really does help us in the real world. Although somethings we do learn are pointless and once will we need them. For the most part everything is pretty helpful. Ways we can improve is by giving more privilages. I think that leting kids have Ipods during class actually helps a lot of kids concentrate. I kno it does for me. Ways to promote positive values are by not bullying others kids and by doing your work and setting good examples for the underclass man. It really does make a difference.

i value how our school creates a positive learning evironment for students. the teachers are also very good at their respective jobs. i like how they help each student who learns differntly or is having trouble in certian areas by teaching them individually. i cant really think of some things that we need to improve on at this point. as for me i go to school to learn what i need to learn and get done what needs to be done. as for weather or not i promote positive values or not i cant really answer that. i cant answer not because i dont care but because i dont look for things like that.

I agree Mr.Kay, Challenge Day was totally kick ass! it made me think for a sec. that we actually have people who care about one another in this school. Want to know that funny thing though, right after we all left that gym everything went right back to normal which i had a feeling would. the feeling i felt in that room that day is undescribable and im sure you know how i felt. I guess i feel fine about Lakeland High, its a comfortable place to be and i dont mind coming to school. The only thing that i would change is all the judgements and cliques. I love school and im sure i will love it just as much next year... :(
