Day 10

Welcome back from the weekend. I hope that you did not get too wet out there. Today we discussed the idea of existentialism or the absurdity of life. In life, we see many absurd events or ideas. Name something you would consider absurd and why. Also, talk about the metaphor that Ionesco was discussing in regards to the story. Is his metaphor accurate? Why or why not?

Absurd is like saying there is going to be world peace. Life is just a giant absurdity to me. People in general to me are absurd, like my ex girlfriend. I don't quite understand the metaphor your talking about.

One thing in life that is absurd is that everyone goes through life not knowing what their life means. In the end we all die whether or not we are ready. We are a single planet in the universe (that we know of) that contains life. Don't you wonder sometimes of what else is out there, different than everything we ever knew. People don't realize how insignificant we all are. etc...etc...

Yes, I believe that his metaphor is accurate and absolutly correct. Everyone can do something great in their life, but only a small fraction do. The majority of people assimulate and do what everyone else does. Life is to short, so go out and do something different everyday!!

I think the ignorance of people is very absurd. People act without thinking about the reactions that may come about. Another thing I think is absurd, is how hypocritical some people are; mostly this generation's parents. I realize parents are looking out for their children's best interests, but sometimes their own actions get out of hand. However, I thought the metaphor from the story was very accurate. I myself cannot live a routine life. I believe people should go out and experience as much as they can while they have their short time on Earth.

There are many things that I would personally consider absurd in life, but, for the sake of simplicity and everyone else's eyes, I'll only name one to a few. Firstly, I think that the political forum is absurd. While it is necessary, the way it is carried out (continuous bickering which leads to nothing getting done) should be - for lack of a better term - "streamlined". Secondly, I view the fact that people often often place themselves in situations that they complain about later. This morning, while I was waiting for Mr. Kay to open the door, (a dreary and ponderous task no doubt,) I happened to overhear two freshman girls whining about how uncomfortable their shoes are. It they're so damned uncomfortable, why the hell would you wear them in the first place?!

Ionesco's metaphor, about life being a mundane series of repetitive, itinerate events that we program ourselves to follow like robots, (read as, "boring") is absolutely true. I do the same thing every week-day. Get up, get dressed, use the w.c., drive to school, go through school, go home, take a nap, wake up, eat something, do my homework, relax for a period of time, read a book until midnight and then, go to sleep, only to repeat it the next day. It's rather mundane o just talk about it. We as humans, I feel, are comfortable living like this. Especially Americans. We don't accept the "new" or the "different" because it's just not something that we're used to. This is the unfortunate truth about society, and I believe that Ionesco is completely and utterly correct in his thinking that we're essentially boring creatures too self-absorbed with our routines to truly enjoy life.

One thing I consider absurd is what we talked about today everyone goes through the same routine every day. This is absurd to me because no one really seams to mind it at all they just go on every day doing the same thing. I thought that his metaphor was acurate because most people go through the same routine every day and never change a thing. But there are some people who go out of their way a change their lives so it is not repeating. I guess it just doesnt bother people that their lives just repeat over and over again every day. Lonesco metaphor was just saying that sometimes people should do something to give their lives a spark ever once and a while.

It is abusrd that everybody goes through the same schedule day in and day out during the week each and every week. Sometimes, people need to just through a little bit of change into their life!
I believe that the metaphor is accurate because people, like myself, cannot stand change, and therefore, we are boring creatures.

This is a hard one.

I think it is absurd that we do the samething everyday. I have been getting up and going to football practice for the past few months. I like going but sometimes it gets old and the same thing everyday gets old. Its the same thing with school. This is our third week and im already sick of it. I dont know what a metaphor is, therfore i dont know what the metaphor in the story was.

I find a great many things rather absurd, so, like Stefan, I'll spare you my babbling and only name a few. The first absurdity that we welcome is our seemingly unapparent ability to tell the truth, for the sake of personal gain. People often lie to each other over the simplest things in order to garner a greater reputation, or often people are two-faced, telling one person what they'd like to hear and another person what they'd like to hear, be it contradictory to their beliefs or not. Another absurd thing within America society is our lack of skepticism, or our over-skepticism. Many Americans, when thrown a statistic in a television commercial perchance, believe that such statistic is true, as they should since it's on television, of course - the media never lies to us, no! - when truly, that statistic which says "9 out of 10 doctors support this medication!" is based on a biased, unrepresentative sample used to convince viewers that their product is superior.

Ionesco left a prominent impression on me after I read, and finally understood, the story. The rigors and routines of every day life go by largely unnoticed by American's simply because it is standard, and any readjustment or new thing is oft shunned upon because it is not the norm. We are so "underskeptical", so to speak, that we hardly realize just how predictable our day-to-day is. I do the same things each and every day: Wake up, take a shower, go to school, come home, take a short nap, complete my homework, and go on the computer or hang out with a friend. Hell, even the conversations I have with my lady-friend are hardly endearing; they are virtually the same every single day, and to be honest it makes talking to her with the phone sort of "uninteresting", for lack of a better term. In short - though this blog has been long, and I apologize cause, I mean damn, I must take up a lot of your time for those of you that have read this. Or rather more time than you'd have liked taken. I digress - Ionesco's metaphor for routine and predictability was spot-on in the story.

there is only one thing in life that i find absurd. the one thing that is really absurd to me is stuff we learn in school that we will never in our life need again. one thing in particular is history from a billion years ago. this is something you will never ever need again in your life. its completely absurd.

yes, i believe that the metaphor is correct. we as students are completely repetitive. we get up get dressed and go to school. then at school we go to the same classes every day.

I get up, go to school, after school I have football practice and then I go home and do my homework, and then its the same thing the next day. I think that changing up your routine every once and a while is a good thing but it can also be hard to do. For example, you cant just stop going to school becuase you are sick of the same routine. I can't stop going to football because im sick of the same routine. But there are some things that you can do.
Obviously I agree with the metaphor about people and routines.

I was absent today for challenge day but i didn't know if i had to do it. So i will just write a little i guess.

Something i consider absurd would probabaly be my daily routine. Getting up and goin to school and then goin to dance until late. Home then time to start homework. It is really crazy that we stick to the same routines daiy. But we sometimes don't have a choice. We have to attened school and I love to dance so i attened dance after school. I guess are routines make up who we are.

absurd to me is like some one saying they can walk across water. because every one knows that its inposible to walk across water. and i also finde it absurd when some one is telling you a story or about there weekend. they keep going on about somthing you know is ubsurd like TOM HALL HE SES HES THE BEST FOOTBALL PLAYER. lol jkjk. but that is what i think is abusrd. and i dont understand the metaphor you are talking about.

One thing that I find absurd is war. Every time countries find something to get mad about they try and start a war or something. It's just one big repeat. It would be a whole lot more worth the time if they found different way to solve it each time or mix it up a little. I think Ionesco's metaphor was dead on. He basically just said that people are so into their routines that they forget about everything else. People need to switch things up more often and make everything less predictable and more exciting.

i find ignorance quite absurd. it bothers me that people dont have an open mind about things, and have tunnelvision about things. i also find intolerance, and bias very aggrivated. such as the election, and the war in iraq. as for the metaphor, we go through life too much in a routine. we get up every morning and do the same mundane shit every day. like in the movie office space, it says we should enjoy life, create fun and irregularities. that is my view on things.

There are many things in life that are absurd. Many people are absurd by over reacting to certain items and going over board. Alot of people like go through life thinking they know how everything is going to be. In reality most people dont know what there life is going to bring forth. Peoples igonorance make them obscured too. Im my words I dont think you should go living your life thinking your the best or that everything is going to come you way. In reality we are all here on earth everyone is different and we should make the most of our life with out be absurd.

I can honestly say I say day in and day out like the rountinley life mentioned in Loneco's story, events that occur to be simply absurd. Something I continue to see daily at school is when people simply walk past one another that they may have known for years, and not even wave or simple say "hi". I find it rude, and well, uncalled for. I understand people change and there are reasons for this, at the same time it's odd to me. How after history with someone you can simply shun them off like you never knew them. There was always another time in your life to be grateful for, and that person probably helped to form the being you are today. Also, in the story I have found the metaphor to be accurate in some respect. Life can be mundane and boring, that is, if you let it be. Life is all about choices, chances, and fate. The "rountine" of life is determined by the one living it.

There are many absurd things in the world. to name one, the way people spend so much money on how they look. they spend hundreds of dollars on clothing, for only one occasion. while yes i think life needs spice, but why waste so much. its ok to occasionally do things like this but keep inmind what your doing. spice your life up, but keep an open mind about what you do.

I think that as the years go on, our country as a whole just becomes more and more upsurd everyday. I think we become less observant and caring of what the big picture is in life, and what is really going on that is important. I think we are upsurd getting to caught up in our own lives and our own material worlds sometimes, we completely forget about things like starvation, the genocides going on, things like extinction and so many huge things that are so much more important than the little things in life like, what pair of shoes I am going to buy next? I think if we all just stopped for a few minutes and stopped getting so caught up in ourselves, we could have more meaningful lifes. Not to say that we are not progressing also as a country in a good way, with our technology and such, but in terms of really helping others and takeing a break, I think we have gotten a little bit upsurd.
As for the metaphor that life is just a series of repetative events that we go through without even really noticing, I think it is so true. And I really didn't even think about the story in that way until we explained it, but it made a lot of sense if you stopped and thought about the real meaning. We get so stuck in this routine, that we are afraid of the changes that can be made for the better because that is just what were used to and comfortable with. Life is too short to be doing the same things all the time, you gotta change it up as often as you can to get the most out of life, and just live it up!

One thing that I think is absurb is one thing that we talked about today is that people have the same routain everyday. How can u go through life doing the same thing everyday I think that would get very boring and I wouldn't be able to take it. So that is what I think is absurb people going through life like that. It doesn't seem like a good life to live. The metephor means things or events that we do every day like its no big deal. I think this metephor is true because I am a victim to it everyday I wake up and go to school and on weekends I sleep in.

I think that the idea of how everyone follows the same routine everyday is absurd. When you think about it everyone no matter what it is, follows some type of daily routine. This can make life boring and take most of the excitement away from life. I think we need to find other things to keep our lifes entertained and keep us busy so that our daily routines dont become boring for us. I very much believe that this metaphore is accurate. It is very true that people do have the same routine everyday. I believe that life is too short to waste like that. I think we need to do as much as we can. And experience the things that we want while we can because life is short and we have to make the best of it.
