Why do you think that during the early history of man it was important to have so many different gods and then that switched to most religions and peoples having one God? I think the reason for many gods was to explain how the universe and everything in it was created. They thought of having many gods as the most basic and fundamental reasons why the earth is the way it is. I think having one god is the best system because you feel more connected to that god. Having all sorts of gods that represent natural wonders just seems like an excuse for not being able to solve how they got here. I wouldnt want to live in a world with so many gods because to me, its ok to marvel at natural wonders as gods work, but not as another god. I believe in one god, the father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen. I believe in one Lord, jesus christ, the only son of god, eternally begotten of the father, god from god, light from light, true god from true god, begotten, not made, one in Being with the father. Through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation He came down from heaven, by the power of the Holy Spirit he was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered died, and was buried. On the third day he rose in fulfillment of the Scriptures, he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the father and the son. With the father and the son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. The benefits are endless, there are no defectis, Jesus loves everyone.

I think it was important to have many diffrent gods during the early history of man because people depended on the gods to help them. For example, if one man was a farmer he would pray to the farming god or something. Different people had different problems and they thought that certain gods could help them. If a woman needed to become pregnant she would pray to the fertility god, she wouldn't need to pray to any other gods. I think that having one God is best. I believe this because I am a christian and I only believe in one God. Personally, I would not want to live in a world that relied on so many diffrent gods. It would just make things more complicated. Why pray to a bunch of diffrent gods instead of just praying to one God who can help with everyone's problems? I don't think there would be any benefits to living a life where there are many different gods in the 21st century. I think that it would just cause chaos. People would be arguing about the gods. I think that people would be complaining if a certain god didn't help them, and maybe people would accuse other people that certain gods were getting in the way of someone getting what they need. In conclusion, I think that the world made a good change over time from believing in many gods to believing in just one God.

I believe that back in earlier times, people had many different gods to give people an idea that everything on earth has a purpose. Im not religious but what we have studied has led me to believe that if you believe in more than one god, the way you look at things change. An example is Nero and the Romans, they took the principles of the Greek gods and it screwed up Nero's mind and cause him to burn down the Roman Empire. I would not want to live in a world with so many gods because the gods ideals might be conflicting against one- another. With so many different ideas about how the world is made up there is bound to be conflict between people. There are more deficits to living this way in the 21st century because people will go absolutly mad if they had so many gods that they had to worship, im having trouble keeping up with all of the types of religions that are in this world. I cannot think of any positives to having more than one god because there isnt any bennifits in my eyes.

I feel that the idea of having many different gods was followed by the people for the same reason we respect one god today. Our one god is a normal god but is known as a god who actually holds all of the different go or godesses power's. So to the people back then, there many different gods were the same thing as the normal god who is just built with all the different traits. Personally i believe the one god, which we practice today, is the best way method in gods. This is because i feel having multiple gods is hard to follow were now you can look at the one god as the same thing. Just having to live in the world of multiple gods, i feel it would be very hard thing to follow or practice. Living this way today, i feel people would have had many confliicts due to different religions about what god is better than the other and which god or godess you should actually follow.

It think that in early history there was so many gods to explain what causes everything natural in this world. The people needed an explanation for lightning and rain and things like this to have a reason for their being. I think that most religions switched to having one God because it made more sense for their to be one creator of all things on earth, rather than thousands for every aspect of life. Based on what I believe, I think that the belief in one God is best. I believe that there is one God and he is the creator of all things on Earth. I would not want to rely on multiple gods because first off, that isn't a part of what I believe, but secondly, it would get very confusing and tiring to pray, sacrifice, and be loyal to so many gods. I would be trying to make one god happy which could upset another god, so I would have to sacrifice to that god, and my life would end up a mess. I don't know very many benefits in the 21st century for worshiping multiple gods, except that you could pray to specific gods for specific needs. However, you can do the same with a single God. In conclusion, I believe in relying on one God.

Back in the day they focusedon many gods because it helped them find an understanding for all that went on. The many gods were there to show theuir purpose for being on the earth and some of eaarths natural forms. I think that this shift to one god began when they found they could have more trust in one man. Personally, one god works for me. I like this way better because i can trust him with everything. I dont believe i could live in a world with many gods. I think that this is very confusing and lots of work. If we had to pray to many gods in our life we would run out of track. I think that one god who covers all the bases is good for me. I tihnk that we benefit to this way in the 21st century because we have rerlied on this god for so long, and we have gained so much trust and the religion moves so smoothly. I like this becasue there isnt much religion conflict where we live too, and in our time.

I think that it was importanat to have so many gods back then to show how everything in the universe has its own meaning. They switched to having only on god to have a better understanding adn closeness. I think that it is better to only have one god. When yyou have one god you feel much closer to him and feel safe. Personally i would not want to live in a world that had more then one god. Having more then one god is to complicated. Id rather just pray to one god and him be there for you for anything. If we had many gods today people would probably just complain that the god didnt give them what they wanted. So really i think it was a good choice that they changed to only believing in one god.

I think the reason for multiple god was to uncover the mysteries of nature. For instance, how does rain work? They didn't have the technology we have back then. They can't figure the stuff out. They we baffled by it and so they created many gods to explain the works of nature. I feel like having multiple gods is better than only one god. I just think it's better for peoples needs. Praying to one god for your needs seems like nothing will ever get done considering how many people are doing it. Multiple gods for multiple tasks. You need water? Pray to the water god! Need good crops? Pray to the crops god! It's so useful. It applies to your everyday needs.
I think that in the early history there were many gods to make things more black and white and understandable. they believed that there were different gods that each dealt with a specific thing vs a god that can control everything. i think just like history learned that it was harder to have two leaders than one, the change happened in the number of gods as well.

i think that there were so many god because everyone had their own beliefs. They wanted to beliave in what they thought was right, and many people didn't agree with eachother. So they would "create" these gods and worship them. Since so many people had there own ideas of how life was created and how their life was going to be lived, thats why there was so many gods. Over time i beliave that everyone started coming to the conclusion that there couldn't be that many gods. So the one god that we have today is kind of like all the gods put together. He solves all problems. and blah blah blah. I don't think it would be good to live now with more than one god because i think it would cause a lot of controversies and fights between the beliavers of one god and another, just like in the other countries. I think that the polytheistic approach to religion works better because it was the accepted type of religion through ought the beginning of time. I wouldn't mind living in a world with a lot of gods or just a single god because i am not a very religious person, but if I was forced to choose I would have picked the polytheism. Polytheism helps me believe that there is some sort of higher beings that control the workings of the world. IN the twenty first century monotheism works a lot better because we understand the world a lot better, and we don't rely on gods to solve all of our problems.
I think back in early human history there were many gods because they needed to be able to explain certain things. For example, Poseidon was created to explain why there were terrorable storms on the sea. Also they might have had multiple gods so their gods looked more powerful than other people's god/s. But mostly to explain unexplainable things and such. I think the system of one god works the best. I feel that way, even though I not really religious, because today it would be very difficult to worship many gods. It is just easier to worship on god, whoevery you feel it is. I think it was important to have many different gods because there was many things people needed. Having more then one god was a good way for people to get more help. Having one god can put more trust and worship in one being then twelve. Personally, I think that having twelve gods is cool, but having one god is more logical and easier. If I had to live a life worshiping twelve gods I would eventually get who goes with what power, but I think I wouldn’t mind it. Even though, having one god is, I think, more a religion because you have one soul being the provider in the “start” of all things human, instead of twelve gods fighting for the head position. So, I think that there is no good or bad, in having twelve gods vs. one because whatever you believe in is what is most important. Not the fact that twelve gods or one god “created” everything. The main reason I believe it was important to have so many Gods was that early man needed explanation. He needed explanation for just about everything. For example, a man sees lightning, he probably says, oh it must be the lightning God. A man falls in love, oh, it must be the God of love. Basically, because man didnt know very much about the universe and how it worked, it came up with Gods and Goddesses to try and explain everything. I believe after they found out more about the workings of the universe, they started to realize there need not to be a God for the explanation of every single little thing. I think that having only one God works the best. Personally, I am a Catholic, so I only believe in one God, the only God. No, I would hate living in a world like that because it seems like people would blame every thing on the Gods. Like if they raped someone, "oh the God of rape made me do it!" I just dont think anything would get accomplished. I agree with deets, the benefits are endless in my religion. Jesus is loving of all, and forgiving of all.

If we ever had to switch to multipul gods, then that would be a huge headache. Instead of differnt gods having differnt purposes, there is one god who has everytihng combined. I think it was important to early man to have plentiful gods so they can help explain the wonders on this earth. Back then they did not have an easy way to explain things but say a god did it. Later on one god would be enough. Newer religions had more to offer at a higher level. Now poor, rich and normal people had a similar faith. I think it's easier with just one god. With one god there is much more organization, it also has more benifits in todays society. I know it's also much easier to worship one god "Jesus" than it would 12 of them. I would never like worshiping more than one god because honestly it would be hard. I know one benifit in todays society with one god is that we tend to be more connected to each other. Most major religions now only have one god and that makes us all have something in common.
I think the reason some religions had multiple gods was to explain things that they couldn't control and to split things among multiple beings. And I think the reason people switched to one God was that it simplified things and it was more appealing. I thing having one God is easier than having multiple gods. Actually I wouldn't want to live in a world with multiple gods. That being because I would have to worship lots of gods and it would become annoying after a while. It is easier to worship one God rather than lots of gods. I don't think there are any benefits to worshipping multiple gods. I think in early there were so many gods because nothing like the story of jesus was around. i think that religions today are a sort of structure, and back in the early times people needed that. people needed someone to "look up to" and take probles too. I think that in early history people needed away to explain how the universe was made. The gods controlled every aspect of their life. It was normal for people in ancient times to look to different gods for whatever problem they were having. In my opinion people switched from many gods to having only one god because it was too confusing having so many gods to worship too and ask for guidance. You can feel closer to one god as opposed to many god's. I think having one god works the best for me. I like having one god to pray too and confide in. I would not like to live in a world that relied on many god's. Having too many god's doesn't give you the feeling of peace. I think the benefits of having one god in the 21 century is that all people can find salvation in one god and are more faithful to one god than you would be too many god's. In the 21st century we live with all sorts of evil and having one god gives us comfort and peace. If we were all seeking guidance from many god's we wouldn't have the foundation of morals that make our society somewhat safe.

They said oh the god of death did it. I think now people are more educated and don't beleive that there is a god for everything. In religon, it is probley hard to pray to 15 different types of gods. Back in the early history, it was important to have multiple gods, because different people believed in different things. Since there was more than one god, you didn't have to rely on one god to tell you what to believe, or what you should believe per say, you had options and choices. I believe that people have switched it to only having one god, because it made things easier. Having more than one god, makes things more difficult. Greed and jealously could get in the way. Other gods could become jealous if more people come to them, rather then himself. Personally, I don't think that's what gods all about, it's about what you believe in, not jealously and greed. I believe that only have one good is a more fundamental way rather than multiple gods. God is God, simple as that. He can help everyone with anything. He doesn't specialize in any specific department, he specializes in all departments. This is why he is the father and almighty. Living in a world that relied on more than one god, would get very confusing. As I stated previously it would be complicated, and people as well as god's personal emotions would interfere. This goes along with the fact that, there wouldn't be any benefits in the 21st century, with having more that one gods, especially with how people are now a days. People are very selfish and greedy, they want everything for themselves, and for no one else to have apart of it. People would cause a complete fiasco. I think it switched to most religions only having one go because it easier to believe and warship one man rather then a variety of different gods. I think that one good works better apposed to many different gods. Personally I'd rather not live in a world with many different gods. I say this because it would be difficult to remember all the gods and what they did. It is way easier to remember one god and warship them. A benefit to living in the 21st century with many different gods is that you had a scapegoat when something went wrong. This could be a major issue too because people would use it to try to get out of many things.
The idea of having one God seems really benificial to me. I don't believe in gods or God, but i do think that religion helps to humble us and to kind of force us to behave. The idea of having one all powerful god who control the fate of our after life based on our concept of sin vs. good behavior, is rather intimidating. This idea does a much better job of controling the masses and it is much easier to accept than the idea of multiple gods. People want to believe that there is a being so great that it created and controls everything, rather than numerous beings that control things individualy. And the idea that that all powerful being looks down apon us and favors us so long as we repent and worship him, makes life seem a whole lot easier for us. To me, this idea is the easy way out for people who make mistakes and want to be givin forgiveness rather than work for it. I would rather live in a world that believed in one god because that leads to more order, and people are on their best behavior to make sure that they stay on God's good side. This way of life has been pounded into a majority of people since child hood. The belief that doing good things will get you a ticket to heven makes for a better controled and better behaved society, thus causing order.
The subject gods versus God still plays a major impact on the religions in our world today. I think that in the early history of man people believed in many gods because of basically what it states in our history book. People needed to explain theire existence. They needed an explanation for everything they lived in and for. Each element and each part had a different god for that explanation. I think that as people began making their own governments they started establishing their own beliefs. I truly believe the reason they decided to believe in one God is because of pure history. When Jesus profisized about God and his message spread people started to believe it. The thought of eternal life after death instead of their destiny of the underworld appealed to them. Everyone could be "saved" and there was no material price such as offerings or sarafices. I really don't know which method of worship works the best. I am personally Catholic and believe in one God but I respect the beliefs of other religions as well. I am content with my beliefs now and don't really deam it necessary to have a god for every different thing that plays a role in my life personally. In the 21st century in America you have freedom of religion. There are many differnet religions present in America today and we should all respect others' beliefs and pay attention to our own.

I think the reason for having mulitple gods was to have an answer for everything, and have a god to help them with anything. There were many gods worshipped for many reasons and I think this gave security. Knowing that there is a god for any problem they may have. I think once this switched to only one god, although very different gave more belief. Its easier to bleieve in only one god than who knows how many. Only having one god is a better way of religion. You have one reliable always the same god. Who actually takes care of all. It could be like all the gods in one. Having one god is much easier, believable and helpfull than many. The world changing to this theory was a smart idea.

I think the reason for many gods was to show that everything on earth has a purpose. They thought having many gods was the most basic reason why the earth is the way it is. I think that one god works the best. Because if theres namy, to many things are different. And if someone switches, they have to be able to follow all the rules to that god. I wouldnt want to live in a world with many gods. After a while it would get out of hand. People would start fighting, it just sounds like a great way for everyone to be unhappy. I personally would rather have one god, and be happy, and everything be in line. Not a million different things.
I think the reason that poeple believed in so many Gods was because they needed some form of structure to explain how everything was created. When religions switched to one God, it was probably because they had decided they liked what that one God believed better than what another said. I can honestly say, I don't know which system works best. Personally, I don't know what to believe, or what is correct. That being said, I'm not sure in which type of environment I would rather live. There is so many things said about how the world, and its people were created that at this moment, NO ONE can be sure what is true or not. It's just not physically possible to know. But, I think that it would be easier to live in a place with one God, because then you'd only have to worry about what one person did, rather than 4 or 5. But, a defecit would be that if you only believe in one God, not all your questions could be answered about life.

I think the reason that in ancient times there were so many gods because it gave them a reason for everything in the world. When having different gods it gave them the thought of everything is controlled by a god. I think later people believed in one god because it makes more sense that one god created everything. I think believing in one god makes more sense. I wouldnt want to live in a world with so many gods because you would have to memorize a lot of different gods. A benefit of many gods is if you want a certain thing you can pray to the god that is for that certain thing. Some deficits are you would have to remember all the different gods.

The idea of a higher power has been a major part of the history of human beings. Humans have always felt a need of discovery. They have always needed a have a reason or an excuse for why things happen. Things ranging from natural disasters like Tsunamis, to emotional feelings. As seen in Greek History with the god of the seas and the god of love. Ancient people followed so many gods because they needed to rely on a higher power for all the things that occured. The positive occurences were blamed on the gods as well as the negative effects. While people developed, along came the switch from many gods to just one God. I think its because people started to become more organized and realized how unorganized following so many gods was. I think that following one God is a far better system because in my opinion it makes more sense. I would not want to live in a world that relied on so many different gods because I think that with multiple gods comes even more controvery and dispute within a religion. One benefit of living this way in the 21st century is that overall most people follow the "one-god system" so the world has a little bit of a common higher power. Although a defecit of this life style is that much controversy is brought up between sciences verse religion.

The importance of the religion switching from many gods to one god, because it changes the veiw people have on power and what has control. Instead of haveing multiple factors going into explaining life, haveing one god forces the idea to have one explaination. I beleive that the system if having more than one god works better beacuse it is more accepting of other religions. I would rather live with a world that relied on many different gods because of the fact that it is more accepting and it just makes more reasonable sense then just having one. The benefits of living this way in the 21st century because it allows individual explanations for specific events. The disadvantages of living this way are that people will favour one over the other which can cause conflict and it won't be equal.

Most religions switched to having one God because it made more sense for their to be one creator of all things on earth. Rather than having multiple gods for every aspect of life. I would believe having only one God would work the best. it just seems like it would be more of a hasle to have a ton of god all at once. really it only should take one to get what you need doneee.
Gods were said to be the creators of many different things. I think it was that way in early history because someone or something created this world around us. People say it was many gods, people say it was one god nobody knows. Peoples religion represents the way they think about gods. I think as time pasted people of early history started to realize not all gods were real they were just apart of history behind them. If i was to choose which system works best i would agree with worshipping one god. I say this because its apart of my religion and how i was brought up to this world.
In early history, having more than one god was a perception of how a greater being (or beings) was. There are still a few religions today that believe in more than one god. The idea that there was more than one god might have been just a more concrete way of thinking about how things in life happen. "If there is a sun, then there must be a sun god. If there is rain, the god of rain has come to help our crops, which are of course controlled by the crop god." While I can't say that there is a flat-out system in the idea of gods, I would say that because most modern (relatively speaking) religions have been brought on by monotheistic principals, this "system" most likely works best. It's all in the eye of the beholder. I would personally not mind living in a world where people relied on many gods because (I believe that) what I believe is my choice, and I could theoretically believe something completely different than the majority of people. Are there any benefits to living this way in the 21st century? Probably not. Are there any deficits to living this way? Also, probably not.

I feel that early humans had to have a variety of gods to explain that they don’t understand. To the early people they could not understand how a god of love could also be the god of misery. Since our science and our knowledge has improved to explain many things that early man would say was a god’s doing. I feel that believing in one god is better a religion with more that one god. I would not want to live in a world with a religion of more that one god. The reasons for that is that there would be fights about which god is better than another. If there are more that one god it is easier to get a god mad at you and be domed for life.
I think in ancient times people relied on many gods for a few reasons. One being that they needed to explain things that they could not. Also, they probably thought that one man or god could not do everything so it took many gods to explain everything that happened in nature. I honestly have no idea why it would have switched. Maybe they decided with Christianity that one god could be great enough to do it all. I personally dont really believe one way or the other. I guess it makes more sense to me to have one god. Although, i dont think i would mind living in a society relying on many different gods, it would just be more people to pray to. A benefit of living this way, with only one god in most religions, is that there is one god to pray to. Also, theres only one explanation for something if you believe in a god.

Early in history i believe that people made up gods to explain things that they did not understand or did not know were it came from. For instance Apollo the god of sun Aphredite the goddess of love and so one an so forth. They didn't understand how the sun worked so hey made up a god that explained everything to them about how it happens. I think a large part of how and why people switched to one god was they knew more about there surroundings and needed someone to follow. Also Christianity gave an escape from the everyday boring lifestyle to the pore by promising a good after life. This made Christianity a very popular and fast spreading religion. I think that sticking with one god works best. I don't think i would mind that much if we lived in a word who relied on many different gods. Only because i wasn't brought up as a very religious child. There would be defects to living with many gods just because there would be fights and wars over which one is best.

I believe the reason there were so many gods is because people needed help and thought they on a superior could help. They needed an excuse for why everything was the way it was. I believe having one God is more fufilling because it helps you to focus on one thing. Personally I believe in one God, Jesus Christ, the Son of God. We did not evolve from a stupid monkey or come from dust. The bible is the tangible representation of God and having that helps explain everything, there is not one question I have that the Bible will not answer.
