My current event is on health care reform. AMA & AARB are backing the House Health Care Bill. There has been an overwhelming push to overhaul the U.S. health care system. AARP, the nation's largest organization of older American's (a non-partisan group)that advocates ages 50 & older has endorsed legislation drafted by House democrats. This is a huge success because historically they have been opposed to health care reform. Making coverage affordable for every American is a very controversial issue. One of the biggest questions is- Do we want the government to dictate our health insurance coverage. Even though it sounds like health care reform would be could for everybody, it is very scary that the government would have such a big control over our heatlh care. I am still undecided on this issue and it should be interesting how this all plays out. The outcome of this bill will affect every American and needs to be watched very closely.

There are many things happening around the world. Recently, a plastic chemical called BPA has been found in name-brand canned foods. Many people got rid of their plastic water and baby bottles when concerns rose over bisphenol A. Bisphenol A is a chemical used in the production of hard plastics. It has the potential to cause breast and prostate cancers, diabetes and heart disease, and reproductive abnormalities. Both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Food and Drug Administration maintain that low levels of BPA exposure are safe for humans. Consumer Reports tested tuna, green beans, and juice, and found that 19 name-brand foods contain some amount of BPA, which is used in the plastic lining in many canned foods. This affects my community and my daily life. Sometimes I eat soups or other foods out of cans. I would be concerned if I found out I had some sort of plastic chemical in my food. Any type of chemical can be dangerous if you eat it. I would also be worried if my neighbors and friends ate some of their canned food and realized that there was a chemical in it. It is even more scary to think that you could eat a canned food and develop cancer because their was a plastic chemical in the food you ate. In conclusion, I think that people should do more studies to make sure that BPA isn't in any canned foods.

Companies around the world are increasing their productivity, which diminishes the amount of people needed for a job. This is good news for companies, but bad news for those who need a job. This effects our community because when we are searching for jobs in the future, the demand will be higher, and it will be more and more difficult to get a job. However, some economists believe that the increase in productivity will lead to the companies to hire more, even though the jobless rate is to hit the double digits. As an individual thinking about getting a job after college, I have to be aware of these kinds of things. Not only are students from the US trying to get jobs, but student overseas are as well. This motivates me to get a good education so I will be able to get a job after college. The economy is effecting everyone right now, and I think that when companies are dropping the amount they are hiring, it is making the unemployment rate worse.

Today for my current event i chose Missing baby was locked in chest for 12 hours. A 7-month-old baby was locked in a 2-by-3 foot cedar chest hidden underneath her aunt's bed for 12 hours before police found her Wednesday night. Police think Crystina Lynn Mercer gave her daughter to the baby's paternal aunt, Susan Baker, a day before reporting her missing, Haddock said. Both women have been charged in connection with the incident. Baker, who also babysits the child, met with Mercer on Friday and asked if she could permanently take custody of the infant, Haddock said. This relates to my life because i would be really mad if my babysitter did this to my child. A babysitter is supposed to be responcible for a child and she obviously wasnt, and was also a bit crazy for wanting to adopt the kid.

For my current event I'm going to talk about the new luxury that Ford has just introduced into some of its new models of cars this year.
Air bags have long been mounted in the steering wheel, dashboard and sides of vehicles. Now, they're in the seat belts.
Ford Motor Co. plans to introduce seat belt-mounted air bags in the back seat of the 2011 Ford Explorer sport utility vehicle. This vehicle becomes for sale next fall. Ford says it's the first automaker to mass produce the technology.

The belts have a cylindrical air bag that stretches from the buckle to the shoulder and fits inside a pocket sewn into the belt. The car sends a signal that releases the bag if the air bag is needed. It inflates more gently than a front air bag, and with cooler air, so it's safer for children.
The wider belts and bags help distribute crash forces so there's less chance of serious injury. They also help support the head and neck.
Ford also did many tests to make sure the bags would protect children, even if they're sleeping and their heads are drooping. The belt also works with booster seats.
I think that this event plays a large impact on my life. By having this new technology it is going to make car travel safer. Now that I have started driving, I have realized the dangers and risks that occur while driving. The more safe a car is, the better chance you have of surviving an accident if you are put in that kind of situation. I think that this invention will benefit all drivers of America vastly.

All over the world, parent abduction happens. Lets just say a couple gets married, have children, and then get a divorce. When the courts give custody to one parent, but the other parent decides not to listen, sometimes they kidnap his or her children and fled to other countries. A man named Gus Zamora goes to other countries and brings back the kidnaped children. Already, he has recovered 55 children in the 18 years that he has been doing this. Apparently the government doesnt like getting too involed with these kind of issues with other countries and that is when Gus steps in. He does the best he can to find the abducted children, but he doesnt like to be questioned on his methods for rescuing them. I think that it is a very good thing that there are others out there who are helping with issues such as this.

In the elections that were held on Tuesday, less than a quarter of registered voters actually voted. Only 22.7 people voted on Tuesday. I personally think that this is ridiculous. The people who get voted in are the people who make decisions for your community. The people who you vote in are the people who you are choosing to decide what happens to your city, and what taxes you must pay. I think that every registered voter should vote. I believe that if you don't get out and vote then you are letting all of your neighbors decide for you. I think that our elections would turn out much differently if all of our registered voters would vote.

My current event is about the sex offender in Ohio. Earlier this week there were six bodies found in his home. Today, investigators found an 11th body at Anthony Sowell's home. All of the body's are woman I believe and most were killed by being strangled. The police recieved dozens of calls about the odor of a dead human on the street he lived on. All these calls were blamed on the sausage factory in town. The police needed to act on these calls when they recieved them. No mattter what the call is, police should always check it out. If they had taken the time to drive a few blocks, maybe instead of 11 bodies there would have only been 4 or 5.

For a while now, the Swine Flu outbreak has been the top of the news. Well, everyone thought it was only a human sickness…not anymore. In Iowa, a family notices their cat acting strange after they all cough the flu. It appeared that the cat had also came down with the same flu. Many animals, such as cats eating birds and catching the H5N1 flu, are found with different influenzas, but this is a first where a cat caught something from a human. The weird part is, the cat came down with the same flu like symptoms. The cat sprawled out on all four (showing a respiratory discomfort) instead of curling up when resting, and also losing his appetite. After a few days the owners were seeing a difference in their cat, they came down with the flu. I think this is so interesting that a cat can get the flu from a human. It makes it seem like there are so many things that we have yet to discover in our world.

In houstan lies one of the largest camp in the world which is for our military. This is were we have our troops trained and stationed for any man joining the military. The camp is located in Fort Hood, Texas, close to the big well known city of Houstan. Today a shoot of occured were two soldiars whom were in uniforms began to fire at others. After the shooting, seven were found dead. Along with these 12 were also found wounded. There is not much information set out yet by the police but the that was said. They do have one of the shoooters in cusdity but are in still search of the second one which is on the loose. When i personally here stuff like this occur, it amazesme but at the same time scares me that you really cant trust anyone. This is why so many parents are protective of there children do to hearing about all of these random shottings and criminal acts being done. Yet, hearing things like this and trying to put it aside is hard due to the fact that even this was done in one of our home military bases which hold the people fighting for us, not against us.

My current event is about a shocking incident in a Tampa Bay, FL detention facility. A 22-year detention deputy was alone in a jail pod that houses 62 inmates was attacked and put into a classic, martial arts choke hold by a inmate that was 40 years younger than him. The only people around the deputy that could help him were in there because they had been charged with attempted murder, home invasion, and/or drug dealing. Normally you would think that the other inmates would just turn their heads. But instead one inmate runs to the deputy and punches the other inmate in the face, and two others ran over to keep the inmate trying to attack the deputy away. Then yet another inmate ran to the deputy's radio to call for help. This shows that even people classified as criminals can still have good in them. It seems the deputy had gained the respect of alot of the men under his custody and in his custody. I was surprised once I read the story, to think inmates would save the deputy.

Well i couldnt really find a significant current event, so for mine im going to go back to the whole swine flu epidemic. Within the last 5 days the United States government has officially said "if you have the flu, its most likely swine." That is extremely scary because lately around school everyone has been getting sick and if i get swine im going to be pissed. I sit next to Blanzy and i think he has the right to be a complete paranoid germ-a-phobe because swine flu is spreading fast. so now what im doing to prevent getting the flu is washing my hands as much as possible and using hand sanatizer regularly. In my house lately my parents have been getting sick so now im extra carful when it comes to protecting myself

My current event has to do with abuse. Apparently, a couple of weeks ago Rihanna left her boyfriend Brown. No one had any idea why, she just left. A little while later they got back together. At a pre-Grammy party, he left Rihanna bruised and battered, and was arrested eight hours later. We found out, that she left him for that reason, and then went back. You may be asking, how does this have anything to do with a day to day person or with our community. The reality of it is, is that hundreds of thousands of people are beaten everyday by loved ones. They do it because of drugs, money, or anger. For whatever reason, people are getting beaten by someone who is supposed to love them everyday. I would be willing to bet, that at least two of the people you know, are sufferingfrom some form of abuse from someone who is supposed to love them. So, while Rihanna's story may not affect you directly, abuse is much closer than you think. It is horrible, to even think about someone getting beaten, or sexually abused from a mother, father, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, cousing, or anyone for that matter. Its just not right.

The current event I chose for today is the Iowa mom being charged guilty of first degree murder, attempted murder, and child endangerment. She slit both of her children's throat, the 2 year old died but the 7 year old lived. She then tried to do the same to herself and went to a nearby house and told them that she had been attacked. The police found the 7 year old boy and he had to explain what happened. The woman was then taken to court and she tried to make excuses that she was insane and depressed but the jury or judge didn't go for it and she now faces life in prison without parole. I think this is a very sad thing and its absolutely horrible that someone could even think about doing something like that. She wanted to kill her own kids. I can't even imagine what the 7 year old boy is going to have to live with for the rest of his life, having been through this whole thing. This is a current event because it shows what some people in this world are like and were living with some pretty messed up people. I wish things didn't have to be like this and it really makes me wonder how people can be like that and make excuses like this woman did. I'm happy that the jury didn't listen to her about being insane and whatever. There is still some justice in the world.

My current event is about the little girl who went missing in Florida. They spent five days looking for her and when they finally found her she was in a box under her babysitters bed. The babies mother had given her the baby. I picked this current because it shows up how evil this world is getting. Also, it shows us how cruel people can be. The baby couldnt feed itself, change it own diper or even scream for help! Even though they occasionaly changed her diaper and feed her that wasnt enough. Babies need tender, love and care. She didnt get that for days and it could be tramatizing.

Im going to talk about a mother killing her own child. In Iowa, Michelle Kehoe, a mother of two young boys, was found guilty of first degree murder and child endangerment. With a history of depression, she was never happy and decided to take it out on her two young boys. One of whom was cut across the throat, managed to live, while the other was killed. The mother placed the two boys in the family van and left them to die. I just think its sick how a mom would want to harm her own sons in such a way. People like michelle sadly exsist and do horrible things, its reality. I have sympathy for the boy who survived because I cant imagine what the rest of his life is going to be like knowing his mother once tried to kill him and managed to kill his brother. I am thankful for having a family who loves nutures me, while others arent so lucky.

As we all know our economy is at a falling point and jobs are becoming harder and harder to find. In my current event i would like to talk about the jobless benefits and tax credits that are affecting many americans. About one million jobless people are affected by this and its only getting worse. Some people around 7,000 are swaying away from this and are getting jobs back. Now the senate voted on a recovery bill to help with the people with no jobs. The final count of the voting was 98-0 which gives them the right to pass the bill. This recovery bill is only helping a small proportion of people that can apply for unemployment.

For my current event I chose to speak about Hurricane Ida. It made landfallover east central Nicaragua, hitting Central America with heavy rains. The National Hurricane Center said it was a Category one Hurricane with 75 mph winds. Flash floods and mudslides are to be expected in Honduras and Nicaragua. Rainfall totals could be up to thirty inches in some locations. However the storm is a slow moving process, and is expected to weaken as it moves over Nicaragua. I chose this as my current event because I think it is so crazy how much hurricanes can affect everyday life. We all saw what Hurricane Katrina did to our country and how we are still not fully recovered. I think it is a really scary thought for people and their homes to be completely wiped out by these forces of nature.

For this evenings current event I am going to discuss a mom whom lives in Iowa, who murder her baby boy, and cut her older sons throat, as well as an attempt of suicide. The mother was said to be depressed. She thought that killing her sons, would save them the pain they would suffer through when they are older. The mother created the perfect plan, or so she thought. She slit her baby boy's throat killing him, then moved on to the older boy. However, after she slit his throat, he locked himself in their van. The mother just thought he was going to die in there. she created a note, explaining in detail what had happened, how a man attacked them and tired to kill them all, it was the same story she told the police. Although, looking for the "murderer" they found the seven year old boy, still alive, and he told them it was his mom who hurt them. she is now sentenced to life in prison. It is unimaginable to think what that seven year old boy is even going through. Seeing his mother kill his brother, then try and kill him, is an image he will never be able to get out of his head. Reading this article makes me wonder how many other people have done similar things, but only that have gotten away with it. There are truly crazy people in this world, and really wherever you go, you have to be careful. I really wish people weren't like this. Why would anyone want to take their own child's life, it just sick.

I dont really think anything else is more important than the matter Im going to talk about. Its not really cosidered a "current event", but it happens from day to day. It happens all around the country, at every high school. People think its funny to go around and say mean things about people their not "friends" with, even though they probably were at some point in their lives. Girls and boys, but mostly girls, start "drama" because they want to get back at someone. People take the littlest comment and turn it into something much more than it was ever suppose to even mean. Some people tend to take it seriously but I honestly dont care what people think about me. Go ahead and talk all the crap you want, it doesnt bother me one bit. The point Im trying to get at is that making fun of people can actually hurt someone more than you think. Watching some of my peers in class, I just think to my self how immature they really are. And maybe they need to make those rude comments to make them feel better about theirself. I dont know if its true for everyone, their are different reasons for everything. You can lose some of your closest friends because of all this, so why even waste your time. Life is to short and grudges are a waste of perfect happiness.

Today at Fort Hood Texas a gunman has shot and killed 11 other including his self. The gunman was a soldier who worked on the base and was dressed in full military attire. There are also two other soldier/suspects that worked at fort hood. The 10 of the 11 people killed were soldiers and the other was a police officer working as a contractor. There were also 31 men injured from this unexpected attack. President Obama calls the attack tragic and a horrific outburst of violence. I strongly agree with what president Obama is saying. I think it is crazy that a soldier would snap and kill the soldiers around him who are just trying to protect are country. I think this is an example of something very un-honorable. When you go into the army you fear being killed by the opposing country but to be killed by someone that is standing next to you in roll call is unfathomable. My condolences to the victims and families of this crime and hopefully the United States can bounce back positively.

The H1N1 vacciene has many scares, there are doubts that the vacciene really works. Acoording to docters there has been samples taken from the swine flu patients over the U.S, and the vacciene has worked in many cases. In most cases of H1N1 there hasent been severe medicinal needs, the go home with just regular flu treatment. but docters are still concerned with the less than 65 patients that died. So percations are still taken. This pertains me because my mom and two of my friend got the swine flu. And i do everything i can to not contract the H1N1 virus.

Today for my current event I am going to write about the soldier that open fired in a army base in Fort Hood, Texas. Today a soldier open fired, killed 12 and wounded 31. The shooting started around 1:30 this afternoon in the Soldier readiness center, this is where the soldiers who are going to be deployed or are on medical leave are located. The shooter was believed to be Army Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan, they do not know if this was his birth name, or if he converted to Islam during his life. Hasam was killed by law enforcement and they have two other soldiers in custody. People should start wondering what is happening to this world when soldiers are stating to kill each other, on American soil. President Obama was finally right, he said " it's a tragedy to lose a soldier overseas and even more horrifying when they come under fire at an Army base on American soil." Many soldiers could be suffering from depression, if they have been to war, and if Hasam is suffering from depression he should have found other means out. This is a terrible thing that has happened and will impact Americans for a long time.

Neda, a women from Iran, was shot at a street protest. Her mother, Hajar, has mourned over her for the past few months. Neda has become known worldwide and has been hailed as a martyr. Her mother watched the video on youtube showing Neda's death. A single shot in the chest killed her. Her family went back to the site of her death and retraced her steps. From where she died she was only 26 steps away from her car.

Knowing what it feels like to lose a loved one, I can guess what it felt like for Neda's mother. And to think that Neda only had to take 26 steps to get to her car. 26 steps aways from being on her way home. If anything, this is truly a sad story.

There are many things going on around the world. I decided to do mine about Monica Conyers, a former Detroit Councilwoman. She was arrested for taking bribes, and charged in court. Conyers admitted in federal court in June to taking cash from a Houston-based company in exchange for her vote on a 2007 sludge-treatment contract.Monica Conyers wife of Democratic congressman John Conyers faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. This relates to my wolrd by if someone were to bribe me I would be really mad. Everybody always tries bribing people into doing things they don't want to. I personally think that, that is the dumbest and childish thing you could do.

At an army base located in Fort Hood, Texas, there was a shooting that killed twelve people and injured at least 31 more. The shooter was one of the soldiers at the base. The military is calling the shooting an 'isolated and tragic case'. I feel like this is a sad story because it puts out a bad image for the military. This story just reminds me of the idea that one person's bad decision can affect an entire group. It is not fair to the military that others are getting mad at them for this problem. Although I agree problems like this should be prevented, just because one person goes crazy and kills people does not make the other people at the base bad people. I think we as a society need to not group people together so easily. The problem with that is when we start to generalize people in groups based on a few peoples' decicions. The military is obviously a group but we should not get upset at a bunch of them because of this one soldier's choice. I think this is a tragic story, and I feel really sorry for everyone it has effected.

It is a sad thing for us to loose soldiers overseas, but even worse when it is in our own country. This affects me because my country is part of this war. Today for my current event im going to talk about a baby found alive in a 2 by 3 foot chest under a bed in Florida. The mother (Crystina Mercer) gave her child to her sister, the baby's aunt (Susan Baker)a day before reporting her missing. The baby Shannon Lee Dedick was missing for 4 days. The poor baby was locked in the chest for 12 hours under the aunts bed, before the police found her. The aunt wanted also babysat the baby often. The aunt asked Mercer for full custody of the baby and that night is when the baby was reported missing. Both of the women have been charged with interference of child custody, which is a third degree felony. They also were charged with making a false report of a missing child. The false report of a crime and contributing to the delinquency of a child are all misdemeanor charges. Mercer has been charged with desertion of a child, and Baker has been charged with child neglect with aggravated circumstances, which are both felony charges. I think this is such an unfortunate situation and also wrong in every way. How could you do that to your baby? or even trust your sister to babysit your child if shes willing to do this to a child. This makes you really want to watch out for what goes on around you, people are crazy although they may not seem like it.

For my curret event I'm going to talk about the shootings at Fort Hood. Fort Hood is an Army base in Texas. Earlier today a soldier killed 11 other soldiers and injured 31. They made a note on the Arabic sounding name of the soldier. Also it was reported that this tangent was over the issue of the soldier being sent to Iraq. The gunman was shot and killed and two others were takin into custody. It's scary to me that not only do soldiers have to worry about war, but now they have to worry about the men fighting beside them. This will impact our military forever.

the current event i have chosen to write about is the attack that took place in texas at an army base. Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan open fired on the other officers and soliders at a central texan military base. Hasan killed 11 other soldiers and wounded 31. this was the worst case of soldier against soldier killing in all american history. I think that its sickning. here are soldiers that have honorably put their life at risk to protect the country. For someone to kill his fellow comrades is terrible. the reasoning for hasans choice is still unknown. but whatever it was it couldn't have been anything that would deserve to take these soldiers lives away. it is a truly horrible thing that he did.

For my current event blog today i will be talking about the hood shooting in texas. Eleven people plus a gunman were dead and 31 wounded after a shooting today at a soldier-processing center at Fort Hood, Texas. The gunman who was killed was a soldier, Army Lt. Gen. Two other soldiers who were detained have been released, but another person of interest is in custody, said Christopher Haug, chief of public affairs at Fort Hood. The gunman was also a pyschiatrist. The gunman was told he was being shiped to irag and did not like the idea so i guess he went crazy. What i dont get is why are we still in iraq. I mean we have been there for ever and are country is just becoming weaker. We should have ended this war a long time ago, its not even our promblem anymore. If they attack us then we will fuck'um up but just get our troops out of there. Also, what the hell has Obama done. He said he was going to make changes but nothing has been changed.

For my current event i read an article about a baby found in a box after five days. After spending 5 days searching throught marshes and vines for missing infant, they found her in a small cedar box shoved under her baby sitter's bed. Authorities said the baby's mother, Chrystina Lynn Mercer, gave the infant to baby sitter Susan Elizabeth Baker early Saturday, then reported her missing about 10 hours later. Washington County Sheriff Bobby Haddock choked up Thursday as he described how 7-month-old Shannon Dedrick was stashed in the box for 12 straight hours before investigators discovered her late Wednesday. They believe she had been in the closed box on and off for several days. "She was way back under the bed," he said. "But she was not crying." This was all over custody of the child. this relates to our society because this could easily happen to anyone in our family with a child. And if they wouldn't have found the girl when they did she could be dead now.

The current event I have chosen to write about is the unemployment extension. Congress has passes the bill to extend the unemployment for 20 more weeks for anyone who as exhausted their benefits. Twenty weeks factored out, is 10 checks. The House passed the bill on a 403-12 vote Thursday, a day after the Senate ended a monthlong stalemate with a 98-0 vote. I, personally, know what its like it live in house with a parent unemployed. My freshman year, my dad was layed off for the entire school year, and didnt get a job til January of sophomore year. It was even more hard, because my sister and I were both in marching band, and we had to find a way to be the $2000. Even with my mom still working, its not easy to live. We came close, multiple times, to losing our house. It's not a pleasent thing to live through, but it really made me appriciate what I have, and made me realize the I do not need material items to survive. Now, my aunt has to live through it. Yet, she's not as lucky as my family, she's divorced and got a kid at MSU, and another living on his own. When she exhausted her benefits, she had NO money coming in. Her power and water was shut off, and she almost lost her house. I'm glad they've passed the bill to extend unemployment, because now, not only does is give my aunt, but it gives the thousands of jobless people, 20 more weeks to try to find a job.

Today im talking about a current event that has to do with a serious problem that many US soldiers face everyday. In Fort Hood, Texas is the center where many returning soldiers come back from Iraq. These soldiers have seen the worst that war has to offer and many have been deployed multiple times. The thing that gets to many when they return is PTSD or post traumatic stress disorder. In Fort Hood, it was too much for some soldiers to take. 31 soldiers ended up wounded, and many dead when the post traumatic stress was too much to handle. It is nothing like our army has had to deal with before, because this is the worst of all war. The soldiers are put under a ton of stress, and sometimes too much. This is relevant because it is a problem that many soldiers face upon returning home. Some return to their families a stranger. I just feel for the soldiers that have to deal with the stresses of going to war everyday, but I am glad that we have people fighting for our country and give them props.

Today, a Massachusetts man was indicted on new charges in an alleged terror plot to kill two prominent U.S. politicians. They were also planning on attacking U.S. shopping malls. Tarek Mehanna, Ahmad Abousamra, and a third unknow person who are now believed to be in Syria, are the accused. They were charged with conspiracing to kill in another country, and because they lied to law enforcement about ever plotting anything. Once they were accused, they fled and are unknown but are assumed to be in Syria. It just shows how there is always the threat to even us common Americans, such as mall shoppers, of terrorism in our country. It is truly trajic how people are so twisteed that they want to cause fear in innocent people for their enjoyment. After all, that is all terrorism is used to do; inflict fear.

Ford has introduced to use an all new air bag system. On most newer cars they seem to have airbags almost everywhere. Ford brought to use new seat belt airbags. These airbags were designed for children or elderly in the back seat. These airbags help support the head and the neck to keep vital spots safe. I think these are great. Most parents worry about the safety of there children but this might help change that. These are bags should reduce the head injuries from whip lash etc from chrashes. This is a very smart idea to work on because honestly safety should be first.

A 7 month old baby was locked in a cedar chest hidden underneath her aunt's bed for 12 hours before police found her on wednesday. Shannon Lee Dedrick who was reported missing 4 days ago, is in good condition. The Doctor said that shes healthy. The mother and the aunt are both being charged. They think that the mom gave the baby to the aunt a day before reporting it missing. They were charged with interference of child custody, a third-degree felony. And a false report on a missing child, etc.

in Houston Texas, Fort Hood base was attacked by a soldier who was armed with two guns. He managed to injure 31 people and kill 11. He was a psychiatrist who was due to deploy soon, and he was over heard telling another soldier that he didnt want to ship out. Fort Hood is a main base for deployment of soldiers to Afganistan. It is also the largest military instillation in the world. This event shows that even the strongest can be broken by the effects and pressures of war. It also shows what other soldiers that have gone through more than one tour of duty in war can be broken by the effects of war, and how PTSD can affect the mind.

Today I will talk about medical marijuana shops in California. These shops have more costumers then residents in the city. There are more of these dispensaries then star bucks and almost public schools. Some governments are looking to take an approach like Sebastopol. With this officials don’t mind the businesses because it brings in a lot of tax revenue during the recession. The actual marijuana dispensary looks like your typical dentist office or even your doctor’s office. About 800 dispensaries have opened since 2007.

For my current event Ichose to talk about the mom in Iowa thats was convincted for her sons murder. The mother was suffering from depression when she killed one of her sons and leaving the other seriously scared. The case on took 40 minutes before she was found guilty. The boys were found a day later in a van near a pond. She was convicted of first degree murder and attempted murder. Only one of the boys and the mother survived. I cant believe a mom would do something like that.

For my current event i want to talk about the war in Iraq. Today the total amount of just US soldiers to loose their lives in Iraq total to 4,359. In Iraq and Afghanistan the total comes to 5,271. With veterans day approaching our soldiers both past and present are on everyone's minds. I think its very important that people don't forget about the soldiers of the past but its also important that they think about those of the present. There are families everywhere with loved ones over seas right now and a lot of people need support. My cousin is in Iraq right now acting as a forward spy for the United States Army. I realized tonight when i attended the school board meeting that i hadn't thought of him in a while. At the meeting tonight they had a small ceremony and talked a lot about veterans day and it really made me think about my cousin and everyone else with family members over seas. This was has been going on for so long that i think we often forget about the people still risking their lives for us everyday. Its really important that we give back to them and let them know how much we appreciate what they do for us.

For my current event I am writing about a cnn report about immigration legislation. It was about how there is a immigration legislation reform bill trying to be passed. It would allow illegal aliens that are in gangs to become citizens if they say they want to leave to gang. I thing that is B.S. I feel that way beacuse those are to people who deserve to be deported back to Mexico. I don't want criminal to be allowed to become U.S citizens!!! Also went the aliens go on trials for being here illegally U.S tax payers get to pay for the lawyers that represent them. That s great, one more way U.S citizens get screwed over by illegal aliens!! This legislation just pisses me off. I wouldn't be suprized if Obama was in support of this reform program.

A 7-month-old child was reported to be missing by the child's baby-sitter. The baby was later found under a bed inside a box. This box was hidden well enough that people could not hear, or find the baby. The baby was found 5 days later alive. This is something that I consider to be a huge injustice. Why would anyone try to harm an innocent child like this? Things like this are happening all around the world. Some people are never caught. I'm glad that this child was found before she finally died of starvation, dehydration, or suffocation. This kind of thing goes to show just how corrupt some people are, and I find this very sad.

To day a gunman went in to Fort Hood, Texas and killed 12 people and injured 30 people. The gunman also was killed in the incident. But there were two other soldiers who were detained and now have been released. The gunman, killed by emergency personnel, was identified as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, 39. Hasan was a psychiatrist who previously worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center but more recently was practicing at Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood, according to professional records. More than one shooter may have been involved, officials said. The gunman who was killed was the only one that authorities know for sure had opened fire. The victims that had died in the shooting were all soldiers but for a civilian police officer who was working as a contractor on the base.
I can understand some things that could drive a man to kill. But to go in to a military base and start firing on your fellow solders. Fort Hood was not only just a fort it was a military processing center, which was a place where soldiers are deployed and return home for Iraq and Afghanistan. Everyone should think of the emotional stress that has been put on the families of the victims of the shooting. Imagine if you got the news that a family member or a good friend was killed right before they left for war or right as they returned. I know that I would be sad for the rest of my life if a family member or a friend died.

Another said story coming from the army today. A soldier reportedly opened fire and killed 12 fellow soldiers while wounding 31. The suspect is reportedly in custody and is still in good condition. This really pisses me off to read. I mean these soldiers work their ass off and they have this happen to us. I think this relates to what we have been talking about and honor. Our soldiers have great honor and pride and they deserve the utmost respect. We also talked about fairness and this was far from it. These soldiers did not deserve to die like this. Some selfish asshole opened fire on them and they didnt have any choice.

Today I read, "Is Obama inspiring black men to step up?" on CNN. Obama made a speech encourageing black men to getting involved in their communities. This includes charity work. I think that this is a great idea and a really good cause that will benifit us all. However, why is the president only reaching out to black men? People say we all want equallity, however it seems like we are all still trying to get our race to gain control. I don't understand why one race has to be a dominating race. Instead of reaching out to just black men, I think Obama should start reaching out to citizens as a whole.

My current event is on the baby that was in a chest for 12 hours. The mother of the 7 month old gave custody to her sister on October 31st. They then said the child was missing, and four days later they found the infant in a chest under a bed with only a blanket, they said she was in there for 12 hours. Well, first off, why would you even think to do that to an innocent baby? There are such stupid people in the world. If neither the aunt or the mother of the child wanted the baby why not give it up for adoption, why would they stick her in a chest to die? The two women were charged with interference of child custody, a third-degree felony. They also were charged with making a false report of a missing child, a false report of a crime and contributing to the delinquency of a child, all misdemeanor charges. I hope that they go to jail because what they did was just sick and wrong. The baby is doing good police say and is in state custody. Overall I think that what these women did was stupid and irresponsible, there are so many people in the world wanted children but cant have them, and these women take having a child for granted.

When I got home from school today, I noticed that all of the TV stations were broadcasting Breaking News about an incident in Fort Hood Texas. So, today for my current event I chose to write about the shootings. 12 were killed and 31 were wounded. Luckily, a civilian officer who was wounded in the incident shot the suspect. The suspect is in stable condition at a local hospital, until he will be taken into custody. This easily relates back to my life in many ways. First off, it brings up the controversial question of whether or not approved and liscensed guns should be allowed in areas like schoolsfor officials and authorized leaders. If it hadnt been for the civilian officer, many more innocent people could have been killed. In addition to this, it scares me to think that anyday just anyone could come to my school and just go crazy. This is one of many incidents that prove that schools/ other areas like military blocks are not the safe place that most people may think they are. The suspect was obviously a messed up individual who unfortuanatly didnt recieve the help they needed. Instead, 12 innocent people were killed along with 31 people being injured. It is very unfortunate to think that so many families will have to suffer and endure great pain because of one messed up individual.

Right now in my life, I'm being nagged by my parents to get a job. This process has lasted abot 4 months and still no luck. When I saw this article on how te teen unemployment rate has risen, I knew it was for me. I think that these jobs are unavalible because older people who are unemployed are filling these jobs for us. They get them because they have more working experience and have establised themselves in work life more. I wonder if I was an employer who would I take, a young kid or an elder who alreay knows how to consistently work. I believe that this rate will lower when the economy gets better. It isn't just hurting our working class but it hurting our teens as well.
