Day 5

Since we really did not have a discussion today, we are going to begin do our weekly current event. The way this works is that you find a topic that is current based on a newspaper, magazine or online news source. You need to explain your current event and then discuss how this event connects to you and your community. Last, you must cite your source from the current event. Events cannot be entertainment or sports related unless you can show how they have a true connection to the greater community.

Many different kinds of current events are happening around the world today. A current event that is effecting my life and my community would be the economic crisis. Many banks are failing and other businesses are falling apart. For example, many car manufacturers are loosing their jobs. My dad works for Chrysler and he has been worrying about losing his job lately. I know other families in my community who are struggling from these hard economic times. Also, many people that have lost their jobs have had a hard time getting security. Losing your job also takes a toll on your health. Statistics show that a person who loses their job will die earlier. (according to the article, Pink Slips and Poor Health: The Toxicity of Job Insecurity Studies show that the current economic climate may very well be eroding months or even years from the lives of those on the bleeding edge of insecurity, written by Tom Jacobs from Miller-McCune. If my dad were to lose his job at Chrysler I would be worried about his health if he could not find another job soon. Many current events are happening around the world, and many of them are effecting peoples lives dramatically.

For my current event i have chose to talk about the unfortunate death of the famous Patrick Swayze. Patrick, if you dont know him, was a famous actor. He took the lead roll and other part sin many popular movies such as "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost". He past away monday at the age of 57 years old after a long battle against Panreatic Cancer. He past away next to his family monday with his family by his after a 20 month period of illness. Many of his dearly fans have been very sad all of this time while he fought this deadly disease since March 2008. Despite the diognosis, Patrick had lept working with his wife on his memoir shooting "The Beast" an A&E series. While making the film Patrick also refused to take any pain killers because he thought it would change the edge in his performance. I did not exactly follow Patrick's career but did know of him and his acting career, this though gave me a sad feeling because he was not only a great actor but he was a very good person to others. RIP Patrick Swayze.

Today on September 15th 2009, the Waayne and Oakland County primary elections were held. The elections were held for the people of Wayne and Oakland counties to vote in who they believe is best to make the desicions for their county. At these elections not only are you voting for city council and mayor but you are also voting for bills to be passed that could make our community a much better place. These elections affect us greatly because we are voting for the people that will represent our communities. Not only will these people represent our communities, but they will make decisions for our community that could either be wonderful, or horrible. This event is very important and affects our lives greatly.

I chose the terrible slaying at Yale University as my current event. A 24 year old missing Yale student was found dead inside the wall at Yale medical school building. The article said she was destined for greatness and was intelligent and driven. She had her whole life in fron of her. On Sunday she was supposed to be married; instead she will never have marriage, children, and the future she deserves. It makes me think about the lyrics we listened to this week "You only have 100 years to live". You never know when your life is going to end. We need to make every moment count and not regret the choices we make. I hope Annie Le made the best of her life before she met her tragic death. It is felt that this was not a random killing and I hope they find the person that took all those special moments Annie Le might have had.

in this past year there has been a very big push from America to start buying more american made vehicles. here in southeastern michigan it is being marketed even more because michigan is the "motor city" and the auto industry is a big bulk of michigan's economy. as the economy gets tighter on money and jobs, people go absolutly crazy and start becoming paranoid and it gets scary because one day you will be working then the next day you are out of a job. it affects me because a lot of my friends that moved away were because their mom or dad lost their job working in the auto industry. that is bad because i gurentee that some of my friends here at Lakeland have parents in the auto industry. some ways that the government has been helping slow down this bankruptcy process is by starting the cash for clunkers which helps some of the auto industry but that program was way to overused and in the end it got shut down because of money shortages.

For my current event today i chose, Obamas administration unveils fuel economy rules. With global talks on climate change looming, the Obama administration sought to gain momentum Tuesday. They did this by unveiling its plan to require better gas mileage for cars and trucks and tougher rules on vehicle greenhouse gas emissions. The new standards call for the auto industry’s fleet of new vehicles to average 35.5 miles per gallon by 2016. The proposal is expected to increase vehicle fuel efficiency by about 5 percent annually and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 950 million metric tons. The plan would also conserve 1.8 billion barrels of oil. This influences me and the community because i care about the environment and global warming, so i want to do everything i can to help save the earth!

The current event i have chosen is the young students death that had taken place last week. A 24 year old pharmacology major at Yale university had been missing for a 5 days. later her body was found trapped in a space in the labs wall. i think that this is disgusting. police have said that there was indeed a motive behind the killers action, that it wasn't random. i just cant believe that someone could have such a grudge or obsession with someone far enough to murder them. i feel extremely sorry for her family, for someone to do this they must truly be sick.

There's a lot of things happening in our country and around the world today. As i was looking for a topic i came apon an article about how shower heads may harbor bacteria. A couple researchers at the university of colorado tested 45 showers in 5 states and found mycobacterium avium, which have been linked to lung desease, in the shower heads. This connects to me and my community because everyone takes showers. It doesn't matter if you use well water or city water. There's still a chance you could have mycobacterium avium in your shower heads. People with normal immune systems are less likely to get infections, but if a friend or family member is going through cancer treatment or had an organ transplant, and even people aids, they are more likely to get this infection. Even though it sounds very little, it can get very big.

Handheld devices have changed the way we listen to music. Music is a big part of the information technology generation and the technology that plays music is constantly growing. Recently, Microsoft has released a new media player, the Zune HD. This second gen media player for the original Zune has it all. This thing is loaded with everything an electronic enthusiast would ever want on their music player. It plays of course, thousands of songs, Movies, Takes pictures and has its own built in HD Radio. The Zune Hd also includes casual games and certain applications similar to the ipod touch but does so with its own sense of style.

The current even I chose was the Iraqi journalist that threw his shoe at former President George W. Bush. He was released Tuesday after nine months in prison and he accused Iraqi security forces of torturing him with beatings, whippings and electric shocks. Muntadhar al-Zeidi became a hero in the eyes for many in the Arab and Muslim worlds, said he now feared for his life and believed that U.S. intelligence agents would chase after him. His act embarrassed the Iraq's prime minister, who was standing next to Bush during the press conference. Bush, who was on his final visit to Iraq as American president, was unhurt but had to duck twice to avoid being hit. Al-Zeidi was wrestled to the ground by journalists and the prime minister's security men. The reporter said Tuesday that he was abused immediately after his arrest and the following day. He said he was beaten with iron bars, whipped with cords and was subjected to electric shocks behind the building where the conference was held. This effects a lot of people because of the fact that the man who threw the shoes was Iraqi, and the target was former President Bush. Al-Zeidi was imprisoned, and totured because of his race, and his 'shoe target'. This effects the greater community because it shows what happens to people of a different race. Yes, Al-Zeidi threw a shoe at the former president, but he didnt shoot Bush, or threaten him, Al-Zeidi just threw a shoe at him. Maybe he deserved to go to jail for it, but the man did not deserve to be tortured, and fear for his life. It really just shows how prejudice people can be.

My current event is about a robot being built for the US military. This new robot can jump over 25 feet high. This shoe-box sized robot uses a leg to launch over obstacles such as walls and fences. The GPS guided gadget will be used for surveillance in urban environments, and it can possibly lower troop casualties. This event connects with our community because advancements in technology affect almost everyone. Twenty years ago, technology we have today wouldn't even be thought of. Technology has many connections to everyday life. I use the computer to do my homework everyday, I drive a car to places I want to go, and I use technology for many other things. This certain robot will help the US when in war, and provide the US military with information that they may not have been able to retrieve before. This potentially can save lives, as well as many other technological advances. Twenty years from now, there will be technology that we don't even think is possible now.

My current event is on the fuel economy rules that obama is making. He wants a 35.5 m.p.g. standard for vehicles by 2016. This compromise with automakers and environmentalist groups will cost Detroit automakers alot of money. Atleast $25 billion to meet between 2012 and 2016. This also stoped california and alot more states from being able to have their own standards. This effects our community alot. The prices of gas have been ging up and down. We cant afford alot of gas these days. So we have to make it last.

The slaying of Annie Le, the 24-year old Yale student, really caught my attention on the news. She was found in a wall in the basement of the Yale Medical Research Center. After missing for 5 days, she was found on Sunday; the day she was supposed to get married. I really feel sorry for her family and fiance because they lost a loved one at such a young age. She had her whole life ahead of her and some sick bastard had to take that away. The article said she was majoring in cell and developmental biology with a minor in medical anthropology. She would of had a great life and career ahead of her but someone had to take that away. This made me think about our discussion on the 1st or 2nd day of school about not knowing how long we have to live. Hopefully she lived every day like it was her last. Hopefully they will find the person who did this horrible thing.

This would scare the crap out of me if I went to Yale. Mainly because of the fact that it shows that that kind of thing could happen to anybody. It's extremely sad that she died so young.

One major current event that has happend recently would be the swine flu scare. Although the swine flu was said to not be as dangerous as everyone thought, it is still highly contagous. Recently, the FDA has approved the swine flue vacine shot. This may not seem like such a big deal to some people but I'm glad that there is a vacine for it. If the swine flu was to ever get me or my friends and family sick, it would spread rapidly and this flu does'nt just last a few days; it lasts more. The swine flu has traveled its way through all of the 50 states. Some peoples immune systems are not as strong as others and they could possibly get very sick. In other words, now there is something that can help stop the spread of this contagous flu.

Annie Le was killed September 8th and found on the fallowing sunday, September 15. It was also her wedding day. She was found stuffed behind a basement wall labortory, that was only acessable by Yale students. This connects to me because one day I want to go to college. This scares me, there are so many bad things that could happen when you go away to college. When you leave home there are so many more possiblities terrible things happening. The unknowing of who is surrounding you is scary, and instills fear in many poeple.

Today I read an artical on msmbc, it was talking about how more Americans were needed in Afaganistan to win the war. I think that this effects the community and the nation in many different ways. Many families in the United States are losing loved ones due to this war, I understand that it was the disission of those who entered the war to go there and fight. i thik that there is already to many troops that have risked there life for this nation over in Afganistan as it is. This also effects the people. The people of this country because the goverment raises money for the war form the people who pay taxes. If they need more money for weapons they raise the taxes, if they need to send more people out to war they rais the taxes. The economy is already begining to fall and people are in hard times as it is, the government needs to start focusing on the people of the United States and the people stuggeling here and then when people arent in such a finnancial strech maybe then we can start to afford this war.

Today I read the article, "Student Killed in Fight at Florida School" on CNN. At a high school in Miami, Flordia, two students got in an argument between 1st and 2nd hour. The end result was one of the student's death when the suspect pulled out a switch blade. The student was stabed in the chest with the switch blade in front of many witnesses. I feel awful for these students that have that image perminatly in their mind. I also feel really bad for the students involved parents. The sad thing is, we've been hearing more and more stories like these. It makes students not feel safe at their own school. I think soon it will lead to tighter security at school.

"FDA approves new swine flu vaccine"
In current news a new swine flu vaccine has been approved by the FDA.This has become a major step in swine flu vaccination because they can now begin to handout swine flu vaccinations. 45 million doses will be distributed to public areas for people to get vaccinated. This directly affects us because of the possibility of somebody in out school to obtain swine flu, and if that person does get the swine flu they can help be cured of there illness and return back to regular life. So now people who actually go to get flu shots will have to line up and pay twice as much to get both of these shots. Also this new vaccination is hoping to decrease the scare swine flu has caused.

Today Taylor Swift finally accepted Kanye West's apology for stealing the microphone and saying that Beyoncé deserved the best female video. This is the fourth time Kanye has apologized to Taylor and she publicly announced she had forgiven him this morning. Although this current event is entertainment related, it connects to our daily lives as teenagers. For me, Kanye's stunt showed me that there are consequences for acting before you think. If he had paused for a moment to think about what he was going to do before he did it, he may have spared himself a great deal of trouble. When I do stupid things I know I should not have done, I have to own up to my mistakes just like Kanye did. When you are dealing with hurting other people emotionally, it takes an honest effort and sincerity to truthfully apologize. Kanye can never take back what he did, but the fact that he owned up to his decision makes me not be as dissapointed in him. It shows me that actions have consequences, so I need to think wisely about what I do, and deal with the consequences the correct way if something goes wrong so a bad problem doesn't turn worse.

My current event for this evening is going to be on Obama's decision to tax the Chinese imports on tires. Obama put a tariff on the tires, with the percentage of 35 on $1.8 billion worth of automobile tires. However, with this decision to tax them, they are considering to retaliate and tax us back. With the Chinese retaliation it could severely hurt our automobile industries. Since we would be taxing their tires, in return they are threatening to tax our auto parts, that we create, as well as food, that we ship there, and they sell. We have two major industries over in China, GMC and Ford. China is one of the fastest growing and most important auto markets. The reason for this decision that Obama made, is that he feels that it would save jobs. However, if the Chinese decides to retaliate, we would get up losing jobs. Along with the possibility of people losing their jobs, we might get into a conflict with China, which is the last thing that we need.

The recent revival in the story of the feuds between the King brothers and sisters has taken another big turn. An Atlanta Judge has ordered the children (adult) to open the books and turn over papers concerning their father's estate. This current event is devastating because I can't believe that a family can fight like that. Last year I did a presentation about Martin Luther King Jr. and his life. I don't believe that he would be very proud to see how his sons and daughters are acting with such carelessness. Dexter King has sued his sister to get her to give over Mrs. King's personal papers. I believe that this animosity is cruel and unfair.

On Tuseday Barack Obama promised autoworkers that he was committed to rebuilding a thriving U.S. auto industry. Obama said, "its going to take some time to achieve a complete recovery," to workers at a plant in Lordstown, Ohio. But throughout this recovery there are still going to be people getting laid off, and more jobs being lost. He also told his plan of extending healthcare to the uninsured. This could cause an even bigger dip into the growing national budget. Obama has tried to highlight the little imporvements in the healthcare system to try and get his popularity back, but that has just hurt him more, in heated debates ovcer his plans to reform the healthcare system. But the U.S. economy is very slowly comming out of this recessing.

The notices include the day the workers have to resign because their not need in the company. The company's budget cannot pay the half timers because the salary is lower then ever. This effects my community because of course the community needs a job to survive in the is world. If my community was job less people wouldn't be in it. My parents luckily have a steady paying job that they can rely on and support our family. People all around the world are also effected by this because it shows people how lucky they are having a job.

The current event that I chose is the Johns Hopkins student killing a burglar with a samurai sword. There were calls about a suspicious person and when the police investigated the scene, they found the suspect with a severed left hand and a deep cut into his upper body. He died at the scene. He was trying to rob the house of a few Johns Hopkins student in the middle of the night and they went into the garage and found him. He attacked and the kid that was carrying the samurai sword used it as defense. The authorities are not sure what charges the student will face. This is a current event because there are some crazy people in the world. It also goes to show how screwed up the legal system is because the student was just trying to defend himself and accidentally killed someone while doing it. A current event going on is that in Long Island a new born baby was found in a shoe box. Doctors say it was less than 24 hours old. It found in the lobby of a local apartment building with dental floss tied around the umbilical cord. Deceives believe that the baby belongs to a teenager because it was left instead of dropped off at a hospital. Even though the baby is now in perfect condition this is still not okay. This applies to our community because these days more and more teenage girls are giving birth to and unplanned baby and out of fear they ditch it. This doesn’t necessarily apply to me but its still a worry and very sad that people could do that to a little baby.

One current event that really caught my attention was a brutal beating of a 17 year old student in Illinois when he was trying to find a seat on his bus. None of the other kids would let him sit by them, so he just moved someones backpack and sat next to them. The boy who he sat next to started to push him out of the seat and proceded to hit him at least 15 times and tried to choke him. All of the other kids on the bus simlpy stood by and laughed as they watched someone get pummeled. One kid even took a picture of the beaten boy's bloody face with his cell phone. Four minutes after the first fight died down somewhat, the original attacker started it up again. The two suspected attackers are only 14 and 15! This event is strongly connected to my community and me because there is violence not only on the buses and in school, but all throughout our community. This story should effect everyone who hears it, and it should remind us of how truely cruel people can be for the most infintile resons, and how others can simply watch this happen and find it entertaining! It really is disturbing. This story really shocked me that someone who is only 14 or 15 can already have so much hate and anger built up against someone who just needs a place to sit. It reminds me that alot of kids get bullied and teased, and some people take it to far, and it's improtant that we take a stand against it, and not just stand by and laugh.

Today there are many health issues that affect us both globally and locally. One issue is the spread of the flu. The flu is a contagious infection of the nose, throat, and lungs caused by the influenza virus. Because this virus is so contagious the Center for Disease Control(CDC) has come up with the H1N1 vaccine to fight it off. This vaccine was first discovered in 1984 and throughout the years has proved to have been successful in fighting off this virus. Today,9/15/09, the Food and Drug Adminstration approved the vaccine and the government has ordered over 100 million doses. There is to be enough so that every American can have one.
This event connects completely to me and my community. It gives us the option to receive the vaccine to be healthier. Basically, disease kills and constricts growth. If our community takes the vaccines and is healthier it will prosper that much more. A healthy community is a happy one.

Today my current event is about the girl who got murdered at Yale University. Annie Le was killed and her body put inside a wall at a Yale medical school building Sunday. They say only students who attend Yale have access to that building, so it would have to be someone who was a student there who killed her. This was a shock to everyone who knew her. They described her as fun, smart, a very good personality. When I read this I just wondered what would make someone want to do this to such a innocent person. Le was suppose to get married to her college sweetheart Jonathan Widawsky the day her body was found in the wall. I think that this is just disgusting. I don't understand why a person would do this to anyone but especially someone who they describe as such a wonderful person. She was going to school for medical research, and this makes you think what could she have done in the world. Maybe she could have been the one to find a cure for cancer. But now that shes dead, we will never know. Just all in all this article made me disgusted to think someone would do this to such a good person.

The current event I am choosing to talk about is the unfortunate death of an 18 year old boy, Justin Hussin, who lived in Wixom, Michgan. The young man was killed after an apparent text message war. Several other kids from Northern High School, and Western High School, showed up to back Justin and his enemy and "settle differences." Justin Hussin was an 18 year old graduate of Walled Lake Western High School, and played on the baseball team. After an autopsy, it was revealed that Justin was killed from a blow to the head by a golf club. This event connects to me because it shows how people can take something such as a little text message fight, and ruin the rest of their lives with it, when they were only beginning their lives. This also connects closely to me, because my family has close friends of both high schools involved, and my brother graduated with the killer.

There are many current events going on in our community today. Recently, a 24 year old pharmacology grad student, went missing last Tuesday. Annie Le was attending Yale University and had her goals set for herself. She was said to be a very intelligent and hard working woman. Annie was supposed to be maried on Sunday. She was last seen alive Tuesday morning in her lab at Yale Medical School. She was found dead in between walls in the lab at her own school. She was an ordinary girl with goals in life like many others, this just shows how dangerous life can be. It effects our lives knowing theres less saftey all the time, in school or anywhere. This is such a sad event; what seemed to be a nice lady now has no future or the marriage she was waiting for. This reminds me of the song 100 years we listened to in class, hopefully she enjoyed life while she could because it was sadly taken from her. This is why you live in the moment and make every moment last, because you never know when it could come to an end.

Today in the news patrick swayze passed on. This past week in lit class we read the song 100 years by fie for fighting. The song taught us all to cherish every moment and live life to be remembered with a purpose. Patrick Swayze will always be remembered as a brave, generous man. He was diagnosed with pancreotic cancer in 2008 and went through chemotherapy. He underwent plenty of surgeries up to now and denied ever having liver cancer too. He fought the cancer as well as he could but it eventually got the best of him. I realize we have to live as if today was our last. Patrick Swayze is just another example of this.

The U.S. military chief wants more troops for the Afghan war. Obama's top adviser wants an increase of U.S. soldiers on this worsening war. They say they will be taking a new approach on the war, thus needing more men. Obama has already increased the number of troops by two since being in office. Statistically August 2009 was the worst month of this 9 year war in combat casualties. Over 50 men lost there lives. Currently 36% of America support the current war. I think we need to win but take a better plan in to win it as cheap and safe as we can. Sending more men in will just cost America more money and make our economy even worse.

Many different current events are happening constantly hence the name current events. A current event that is effecting my life and my family's life every day would be the fact that GM might eventually just shut down. My dad works for GM and has been for 35 years. It is very hard on my family that my dad keeps either getting his pay cut or might be losing his company car. If my dad loses his job at GM then we will be forced to move. Job insecurity is huge problem in the US. We have the worst economy on earth right now, my dad has worked for 25 years and he will probably have barely enough money to survive when he retires, which is sad since he gave them 25 hard years of Labor. Many families are being severely hurt financially by the GM shut down possibly.

Today, over 20 people were arrested becasue the were accused of aiding and drug smuggling plot. They were airline workers who tried to smuggle then form Ouerto Rico to the United States. 23 arrest warrants were issued to these American Airlines employees in Miami, the Carribean, and other places. Puerto Rico is often used to smuggle drugs into the U.S. because once they're in the US territory they don't have to go through customs to get to the mainland. This effects me because it shows how drugs are still all around. People are secretly bringing them into the country and they could be anywhere. Also, it effects our community because then we will need more cops to enforce these drug trafficking laws. However, while this is all good, it raises our taxes as the funding is increased for the extra cops. Overall, this shows that if your doing something illegal, you are bound to get caught.

At Coral Gables High School Tuesday a dispute between two teenage boys left one dead from a knife wound and the other boy is now in custody. The school was locked down, and students had to remain in classrooms after the authorities were alerted to the stabbing. More than 100 parents converged outside the gates of the school wanting to take their children home. The school later allowed parents to enter and escort students out. Apparently the argument was about a girl.
This event affects all of us in high school because we are all in high school. Even though we are not fully mature but we should know not to kill someone over a simple thing like a relationship.

On monday, in Roseville a house was robbed. They stole their computer, wii, and other house hold items. Before they left they put the home owners 6 month old kitten in the washing machine. Turned it on, and left it there for the family to see when they got home. The family came home and heard a cluncking noise from the washing machine. They found their little kitten spinning around in the washing machine. So many people get their house robbed, and think oh my god this is soo terrible. But no one ever comes home to find their pet in the washing machine. Thats just not right at all in my eyes.

As much as we try to stay away from sports in current events i have found an incident i can tie in with important things. Serena Williams recently had an outburst at a line judge at the US open. She is apologizing and asking for everyone to just drop it because she is very embarrassed. As many of us think it was funny what she did, it was also very uneeded. I think that i can tie this into my life because im somebody who looks at famous sports people as idols. These people may sound so innocent and great to the public, but its not what we see, its what we dont see that we should care about. There is many few professional athletes that i see as an idol now. I just imagine little kids who admire sports people. Some are very corrupt and what we see isnt who they truly are.

Today my currents event is about Patrick Swayze. As every one knows he was in many moviees, including dirty dancing, Red dawn, not to mention Ghost. As everyone knows Patrick Swayze died yesterday after suffering with Panreactic cancer. It was one of the most difficult cancers to survive and many people do not live past a year with it. Patrick Swayze was an icon and a very respectable actor. I choose this current event for today because I feel like he is an inspiration. Today with all the hard times people are having, and with the economy being so low it is nice to have a source of inspiration. He battled the most dangerous cancer you could possibly have, and did it with courage and a positive attitude. If we could all have his attitude with everything that is going on today, I truly believe the world will be a better place. Although it is tragic that Patrick has passed away, it also brings hope to many that you can be happy with hard times. If Patrick can live with stage four Pancreatic cancer and be so positive, I think we can push through the hard times and prosper.

Currently, there is a controversy over a comment that Obama made about Kanye West's treatment of Taylor Swift during the recent MTV Awards. When Taylor Swift was accepting her award, Kanye West left his seat, walked onto the stage and took the mic away from Taylor. He announced that Taylor should not have won, as he thought Beounce should have been the winner. Since that time, many people have critized West for his rudeness. West has apologized to Taylor several times.
Obama was recently interviewed by ABC News. Before the interview started, the newscaster asked Obama what his daughters thought of the Kanye West incident. During the discussion, Obama said that he thought West was a "jack***". The room was full of ABC employees and several send the president's comment to Twitter.
ABC apologized to the president and the Whitehouse. Others feel the president should have known better to make a comment with a mic on.
I think that this relates to our community, because it shows that we may try too much to be P.C. that we forget that we are allowed to have opinions. Does anyone remember the First Amendment? Does anyone disagree with Obama on his description of Kayne West?

Early today a student from Florida was killed by another student. At 9:00 am this morning in Coral Gable high school a incident erupted between to male students. The argument became very intense and one of the students pulled a weapon believed to be a knife. The student stabbed the other student ruthlessly until he died. I think this event is a shock of reality to any high school student. This story is very similar to what happened a few weeks ago around here when the young man from western was hit and killed by a golf club. This just proves that the high school environment we go to today isn't as peacefull as it was in the past. It also proves that young adults dont fight fair anymore. I think a major part of this nonsense is the role models and T.V. and music they watch listen and look up to.

"Police have identified a "person of interest" in the killing of a Yale University graduate student. Her body was hidden for days in a wall in a university research building". Police said they faound the body on sunday Behind a lab wall. Sunaday was the day she was supposed to get married. Because of this tragic event she will never know what the rest of her life would be like. I feel sorry for her parents. I do not know what drives these people to do such horrible things. I certanly hope they catch him or her.

The current event I picked is about the health care system in America. The article is basicly talking about how the health care system in United States is not working and needs to be amended. It says that an option of change would be to switch to the Single Payer System, that is used by every single developed country other then US with the exceptions of a few countries. This would allow doctors and hospitals to bill and be reimbursed by single government agency. The article also says that neraly 1/3 of all health care costs are "associated with wasted administration." Meaning, $300 billion could be saved on paperwork alone if the switch was made to a single payers system. According to the article, that is enough to pay for the whole system to begin with. (Taibbi) How this affects me is that the topic is about the health care system, which directly relates to my family and everyone else in the country. If this switch is made and it is as promising as the article says it is, it could dramactily improve the american way of life and economy. So many people struggle today with health care. A large majority of people have a lot of trouble with paying for insurance, hospital bills, or even just paying for basic medical bills. The new health care system would help people get what they need and not swindled or denied treatment beacuse they can not afford it, includeing my family.

The story of the Yale college student being gfound in a wall is all over media. I happened to come across this on channel 4 news. The young women attending Yale was believed to be murdered by a close friend than shoved and hidden in a wall. The lab/room they found her in was a room where she, and the only male suspect have a key. I think its so sick that this stuff happens at colleges. Its not suprising, but its unbelievable. It makes me worry for my sister who just left for college. I hope they find who did it and send him to prison.
