Day 8

You have discussed the idea of the city-state in history. Based on the idea that people were moving from one to the other, what would be your preference to live in and why? When you have your family, would you rather live in a larger city such as New York or Chicago or a smaller suburb such as the one you live in now. Explain as part of this as to the importance of why the city-state became important to the growth of a society.

i would want to live in a big city area now because it would be a different kind of environment than I do now. I would like top be able to walk down the street and right there is a cafĂ© or a store. I like how its all crowded and there are new ppl you meet everyday. I like bigger cities and want to live in one when im on my own. when I decide to settle down I want to live in a smaller area. I want to have a BIG yard for my children and dogs to run around. To not have a highway right next to my house. but then again not out in the middle of now where (like I live now).

I think it would be really cool to live in a city state. I like the idea of everyone being so close and everyone knowing each other. I want to live in a small red neck town when i get older. I would like to live in like a small New York kind of city. The importance of the city-state let the society grow becuase sense they were in a small community they could deside on things eayier and make rules faster. The promblem today is they their is one big government makeing all the dissions. With a city state you are making your own rules that benifit your community the best. When or, if! i have my family i want to live in a place where the people are friendly and where i can have a stedy job to support that family in a close community where i know everyone.

I think living in a city-state would be sweet. I like the small town feel of things. When people live in smaller towns they make more connections with other people. Living in a big city however, it would be much harder to get to know people. When I have my family I would prefer to live in a smaller suburb such as the one I live in now. I wouldn't want to live in a larger city because there is so much going on. I'm the kind of person who would like to know everyone in my community. With a big city, not everyone is going to know each other. The city-state became important to the growth of a society because everyone knew each other, and they could rely on each other. Also, I agree with Zack when he said that people in a city-state could decide on things quicker and make rules faster as well.

If we had city-states in current day america I would want to stay in one city and not move around from city-state to city-state. But with the choice of living in a small city or a large one its very difficult; small cities have less crime but leave you more vulnerable to attacks from other city states. But large cities are over crowded and as you can see in history, crowded cities allow disease to spread rapidly. But I would have taken my chances in a nice little city. The city-state became important in the growth of society because the city-states were so different that you could never expect the same things, and people could buy and sell the goods needed to survive out side of the city. Plus it helped keep people protected from raiders, bandits and general "bad" people.

Perosonally i have always loved the size of the city we live in today. I was raised over in madison heights which is the same kind of thing as white lake. Just thinking about it, and reading of all of the things happening in the big cities and the dangerous things that could happen i just do ot see myself living there as i grow up. When the time comes around and i have begin a family, i do not plan on living in the city. Living in this type of town is perfect because i love how everybody around knows eachother and all go to the same school. I feel living around here gives all the kids more opportunity to make friends and have a could child life. The city in my eyes is just way to hectic.

Though this is why what i think, back then when the city state started its expansion, people loved it and made alot of problems go away. This plan gave people chances to meet others and set a good start to the economy. From here, the country grew and money was exchanged but mainly crops.

Back in the day, people would move from city-state to city-state looking for a better environment for themselves and their families. I would like to like in a small town city-state. It is safer, and isn't very hectic and crazy like big city life is. I like knowing who lives down the street from me and having friends who are neighbors. I like knowing where places are, and not getting lost (like I would in a big city). When I have a family, I would like them to grow up in a nice and friendly neighborhood. I liked having a yard and playgrounds by my house, whereas in a city, it is dangerous walking to a park down the road. A city-state became important to the growth of a society because the things that occured in a city-state influenced how societies are now. People grouped together, and within that city-state is how big or small places became.

I think liveing in a city-state would be cool. personally i like likeing in a small town. I love small towns becasue everyone knows eachother, and your never lost. Living in a big city would be like an a experience every day because there are so many people and its so big. im layed back so i like being closed off in a little place, but close enought to a big city. City-states became popular because everything is easier. It is easier to maintain and make rules and people liked adapting to that kind of life style. It was also easier to accomadate for evryone. all in all i like living in a comunity where everyone knows everyone.

I would want to live in a town type of area, but not in the middle of nowhere. I would like to live somewhere where there are places to go and hangout with people. When I have a family I would want to live a suburb type of area like I do now. The reasoning for this is that I would feel more comfortable with kids in a suburb. It is safer and I feel lik it is a better enviornment to raise my kids and bring up a family. I think a city-state became important becuase it allowed people to move around more and bestfite where their caree would take them. Such as farming in suburbs and big corperations in cities today.

I probably wouldn't like to live in a city state because it would get boring to me. I would love to live in New York. It has always been my dream to live there. There is always something to do in the city and I would really enjoy it. When I have a family I would much rather live in the suburbs. A reason for this is because it's not as dangerous for my children rather than live in a big city. The city state became important to society because it helped form a lot of different things. It gave people a chance to try new things in a small area so they could find what works best.

I would love to live in a big city like New York. I love how busy it is there and theres always something to do. However, when i have a family i think id prefer to live in a suburb. One reason would be space. Most apartments in New York are small and i like having a lot of space. Also, the community aspect of the suburbs is important. Its a place to feel safe and secure. More so than New York. Anyways, the city-state is an important growth in society because if they did not start forming city-states then there would be no towns, cities, or countries today. It was the beginning of organized civilization. Also, people would have never made laws, or governments or any of the important things we have today.

In the suburbs you can have dogs and area for your kids to run around. Living in a biger city you dont really know everyone as well. You know some people but not like everyone. City states became important because they gave the people more protection. They liked knowing everyone where they lived.

I would prefer to live in an area like I do now. I'm definitely not a big city type girl. All my life, I've lived in an area with privacy, and I love it. I live on a dirt road, with only about 12 houses on the street, and there all spaced apart. In addition to this, I live in the back of the street, in the forest area, it's perfect. I would never want to live anywhere else. I like my privacy and I like to be left alone. Why I wouldn't want to line in a bid city is because there is so much happening, very congested, a lot of crimes, very dirty, and so crowed! I'm definitely not one for crowds. The city-state because an important growth to society, because everything is more peaceful, less crowed, and you are more friendly with the people around you. Generally, people like to live in more open areas because they like to have their own space. This is why I think the city-state was an important growth to the society.

I do think that a city-state would be interesting to live in. I would love knowing everyone and everyone knowing me. It'd feel like one big family. I don't want a big city. There's too much crime and people. I also like things spread out because I'm not a fan of no yard. You need something to run around and be free in, especially when you're a kid. I'd much rather live in a suburb for the same reasons. I want less worry and hassle, which I feel the city brings. City-state was an important growth of a society because people really came together as a community. I feel they worked and grew together.

But the city-state became important to the growth of society because it formed opinions within the people who were uncomfortable in the city state. These opinions helped people form suburbs. and spread out more and more, forming many new colonies.

I would like to live in the suburbs when I am on my own. I was raised in White Lake and I like how its kind of a medium sized commnunity. Everything is close and to have fun you only need to drive about 5 minutes before you find something. Living in a bigger city like New York would be fun right now but as I got older I wouldnt like it. I want a house with about 30 acres of woods to go hunting and where my kids could play. The city state is important to the growth of society because everyone knew each other. They knew when a stranger was in town. It was overall easier to deal with the people.

My preference now would be to live in a big city. Theres always lots going on and many different types of people and things to do. Although there is a higher crime rate, common sense does a lot for that and I wouldn't go walking down an alley alone in the middle of the night. When I have a family, I would much rather live in the suburbs like we are now. A big city is more for young adults like college aged but not for little kids. I want to live in a house with a yard and not have major roads and lots of cars and road noise all the time. A rural area really isn't for me either though because things are too far spread apart. The suburbs are the perfect size. The city state became important to the growth of a society because the people living there relied on each other and had trust and worked together which helped them prosper. That's another advantage of living in a smaller city is that everyone knows each other and has bonds and friendships.

Personally I would rather in a smaller suburb typer area than a larger city. This is because I have always lived in areas like White Lake and I dont really know what living in a city would be like. Living in a big city would be nice because there are more things around and more things going on. Being around all the big building and sports stadiums would be cool for a while. I think that livng in big city would get annoying after a while. Living in a small suburb like White Lake is nice because its not to crowded and the city isn full of apartment complexs. A suburb is more of a calm friendly type area I think. The city state became important to society because population and demand started to grow. As the increase of people more things were needed to support them. I think that living in a small suburb like White Lake is better than a larger city like New York.

I think it wouldn't be very comfortable to live in a city state. I hate the idea of being so close to everyone. I would rather live in a place where there are little people but people know each other. However, City-states led to the growth of society. They led to the growth of society because it was the building block of the modern day societies. I also believe that in a smaller and more spread out society people make decisions quicker because there are less people to host their opinions.

My preference would be to live in a big city. Cities like New York and Chicago offer a lot more job opportunites and entertainment. I like the thought of change; living in a smaller community all of my life I would like to experience what a big city has to offer. When I have a family, I would like to raise them in a smaller suburb. The smaller suburb's have less crime and you feel more connected to the peoople within your society. The city-states consisted of a city & surrounding countryside. The city-state became important to the growth of a socity because it was a group of people that had common interests in the functions of their city. This is true of a smaller suburb like White Lake. The people in a city-state worked together to make the lively hoods of the people in the society good. Everybody knew each other in a city-state and they worked towards becoming a democracy.

I personally like the way i live now. i would hate being so crowded. I like walking out my door and having property and trees around me. i think its kind of refreshing. living in place like new york has some benefits like everything very close and theres amazing shopping. but if i could choose i would live how i am right now. One reason is because i HATEEEE elevators, and it seems like where ever you live in newyork or chicago are in apartments or high up. I also hate heights so thats another thing i would not like. the city-state became important because it brought people together.

To tell the truth, I don't really know where I want to live when I get a family of my own. I mean, I know, where I live now, the neighborhood is really boring. Yet, at the same time, I think living in a big city would just feel too congested for me. I guess if I had to choose I'd pick a place like where I live now. I say because usually, when raising kids, it's easier to do live in a small suburb like this one. The city-state became important in the growth of a society because of its small size. It made it easier for it to make decisions. Smaller city-state meant fewer people, thus making it easier to make decisions.

I love the city, so I think that I would want to live in the city while I am young, but have a family in the suburbs. In the city, there is always something exciting going on. Living in a big city like New York or Chicago would be really different from where I have lived my whole life. I love the suburbs, but living in the city would be a good change. However, I would definitely want raise my family in the suburbs. For one, there is less crime, and living in a suburb is more personal. I have loved growing up in White Lake my whole life and being really comfortable where I live. This is why the growth of a city-state is important to the growth of society. The personal relationships and close proximity made it much easier to create a society, rather than nomadic people traveling from place to place. When the people all lived together they were able to start and maintain a society.

After discussing the idea of city-states, I would much rather live in an area like a suburb. This is because everyone would be closer. It would be more likely to run into someone you know, or haven't seen in a while. If the suburb is very small, then everyone could get to know eachother. When I have my family, I would rather live in a suburb like I do now. I wouldn't like the idea of my kids running around in a hectic city. Also I would like to come home and be able to relax without traffic noise in the background. The city state became important to the growth of a society because everyone knew eachother and gained trust. Every relationship made the growth more sufficient.

While I do enjoy going to citys every once in a while (i.e. NY, Orlando, Charlestong) I would not want to live there. I like the woods. I find them peaceful and tranquil. When I have a family of my own, I want to be able to walk out my front door and into a forest. I want to be able to take my kids hiking through the woods. On the flip side, I want to be a lawyer which will probably mean living at least moderately close to a city. Hopefully, if nothing else, we will at least have a summer home out in the woods somewhere.

If i had to choose, i would prefer to live in a smaller town or a city-state, rather than a big city. I like where i live now, and would like to live in a place similar to it when i get older. I feel that smaller towns are much more cozier and you know all the people. Which means you are more close with them. Citys like new york or chicago are more hectic and more dangerous. So, i like to visit them, but not actually live there. A city state became important to a society because they were smaller, so people would make a set of rules and follow them and would work together to get things done faster.

If I lived in a city-state and had the money to, i would love to travel from place to place for a bit. I think if I did not have a family it would be fun to meet new people and see new cultures and places. If I had a family though, I would want to stay more in one area and really develop more close relationships with the people around me. When I actually do have a family or if I actually have a family, I want to live morein a smaller suburb similar to where I live now. I feel like living in a city is not a family environment. City's have more crime and more chaos, where a smaller suburb has more neighborhoods for kids to make friends and grow up in a good atmosphere. I think that growing up in a smaller town has helped me make more friends and given me more freedom to go around and do what I want than in an area such as New York where my parents would probably not want me to be going all around town.

So, ever since I went to Washington D.C. I have fallen in love with big cities. I have been to D.C., Chicago, and New York. They all make this huge impression on me and I want to live there when I am able to afford it. My cousin lived in a town house and I absolutely loved it! So I if I had a choice in where to live, I would say in Chicago in a town house. I think it’s that sense of everything going on that attracts me. I want to work in one of those huge skyscrapers and have a huge office and then go home to my huge townhouse. Now, when it comes to family, I think I would like to live on the outskirts of a huge city. When I visited my cousins in New York, they live in New Jersey about 45 minutes from the city. So, if I were to live in Chicago, I would live on the outskirts to raise a family. In a small community, the amounts of people who are close together bring everyone together. I think that a city-state helps everyone live the way they live today. If we never had city-states, we wouldn’t have had all the technologies we have today. Everyone together makes people work together, and if we didn’t work together, we wouldn’t have the unity we have today.

I think my decision rests on my age because i would like to live in different areas at different ages. For example living in present day i would like to live in a bigger city. At this age i like socializing with people and theirs more to do in a larger city. Now if i had a family i would like to settle down in a calmer city where my family would be safe. A good example is where i live today (Brent-wood) because its a nice place to bring your family, because its a safe community. In the future i would love to more somewhere isolated where nobody is around. This is because i love to hunt and moving up north or where big hunting game is. Another reason is because thats all my grandpa does in his retirement and it seems fun.

Also i would like the closeness of everyone and everything. i wouldnt have to waste my life spending twenty minutes in the car every where i go. I would have so much more time to get ready and do the things that need to be done. Another reason is that my kids would have there friends close and they could go over there when ever they wanted and they wouldnt have to get rides or call when they wanted to be picked up. I think the city-state was important to the growth of society because everyone was close and they didnt have to travel places to get food and suck, therefore the death rate would go down. Being so close also helps to keep safe they would be less prone to attacks.

I think it would be nice to live in a smaller city state. I don't think I would like to live in a big area like New York City. All those place seem really congested and have a high crime rate. When I have a family, like stated before, I would want to live in a small suburb area. When you live in smaller areas you do not have to worry about the constant sound of cars going by and horns, like in New York. The benefit of a smalley city state is that there are less people for the government to have to provide for. City states also brought many people together in one big or small place to live instead of always travelling from place to place.

I would rather live in a city state right now. I guess just because it would be a change and different from what I live in now. Its just something I want to experience. When I have my family, I would probably want to live in a suburb for the most part. I don't really know where I want to live when I am older. I was hoping to do a lot of traveling, even if I have children. A suburb just seems more safe than the city. The importance of the city-state concerning the growth of a society would be because everyone is living in a more constricted and closer area, things move faster and people communicate more. Things are more ikely to prgress in terms of technology, verses a small suburban community.

When I am living off by myself and not with my parents I would want to live in a very rural town. I would want to live their because live moves by at a slower pace and people are more friendly. Another reason would be that I want to have a farm and there aren't that many where I live now compared to other places. Also I would want to live in a rural place so I would have a lot of property to hunt on(1,000 acres or so). The rural setting would also be a great place to raise a family. It would be a great place because they have a low crime rate and plenty of roam to roam around and have fun in. I wouldn't want to live in New York or somewhere like that because it is so crowed and it would be my own personal hell. City-states played an important part in the development of larger cities because they caused trading to happen and a bunch of people to live by eachother because all of the jobs were in populated places like cities.

My preference would be to live in a suburb. This is because you are far enough away that there is virtually no crime and confusion, but you are also not isolated from society. I would like to have access to a city near by, in case I need something from a store, and for a source of entertainment. However, you can live comfortable and calmly in your uncrowded home outside the bug city. When I have a family I would want to live in the same type of place. The importance of the city-state in history was that it created certain bonds between people. For examnple, people had to collaborate and share things such as farm equipment. It also led to the organization of government (dreadful government), which is important to keep order. It established many of the modern day things we take for granted.

To me living in the stix is my life. This environment is just better because there is no privacy issues, cramped city pollution, theft, etc. I like the leisurely country. You have a lot more opportunities with your land and what you can do with it, you grow your own food and kill it. You don't take shit from no one and live a free life. When I have a family I know where I will go, to the country. I don't care if I'm dirt road poor, have a huge house or anything fancy, just a normal middle class life. I feel this is the best place to raise kids too. My kids will not be exposed to no city life and getting involved with stuff they don't need to know or care about. My kids will be able to live a real life and become hard working Americans.

The city-state has become a major key factor to population growth because it welcomed new things. This opened new windows for trade and small business. People earned more money had an affordable place to live and were half way protected at this time. This made the population grow.

I like where i live now because theres plenty of space for things like dirtbikes, basketball, and stuff like that. All the stores are close, gas stations and everything we need for our daily lives. I think licing in a big city like new york, evuantly would get crowded and i'd probably get annoyed easily. New york would be a great place to visit, but not somewhere where i'd choose to live. By living in a bity state everyone gets close, and there arent as many problems, or get over them fast. People help eachother out. This made our economy grow, and turned it into a better place.

My preference on where I would live is in a small suburb like the one that I live in now for several reasons. In the suburbs you can get more room. If you are in a city you may only have an apartment. When you are raising a family, it would be nice to have as much room as you can get. In ether you can have stronger relationship, with neighbors. Away from the city where you have room to play without being in the streets or in gangs. Provides a better influence for the children. The city state was an important groth to society because it let many ideas in to make life better. Like for Rome for example, they had running water.

If I were to live by myself, I would prefer to live in a large city. I enjoy the busy lifestyle and constant activity that a city has. In a city though, there is not as much living space as I would prefer. If I were to start a family and live somewhere with them I would live in a suburb as I do now. Suburbs have a comfortable amount of living space and don't have as much activity as a city; a good place to raise a family. A ctiy-state became important to the growth of a society because as city-states grow they grow into large cities that make up nations that make up countries. City-states were a large part of the forming of our world today.

Personally, I love the city. Ive only been to like Chicago, and I loved it. I definitely want to go to New York City soon. So, overall I would most definitely rather live in a larger city than a suburb like where I live now. That answer might change when I have a family though. I think the city would just be too hectic to try to raise a family in. So, the suburbs probably if I had a family, just because it is better for bringing up a family. The formation of city-states was so important to the growth of society because it allowed for larger groups of people to live together. It allowed for the large populations to form, and eventually cities.

I personally would not want to live in a city-state. Large cities are loud, bright, and full of problems all day long. I prefer the small suburb that I live in right now. It's quiet, and I can see the stars (bonus). City-states were very important to the growth of society. They were perfect for the growth of commerce. People could easily go to one of the many vendors of (fine) food products. There were also lots of opportunities to meet with others in city-states.

I would definayly want to live in a small town. For a lot of reasons i like the small town feel. Everyone knows everyone and all is good. You can be friendly because again you know people. As for my family i think that they would be much better off growing up in a small town feel. My kids need to learn how to interact and be friendly with people. I think city states were important to growth of society because it is one of the first forms of settlement. It shaped how citys are today and how we interact. Obviously things are diffrent but city states paved the way.

After learning about the city-states i would want to live in Sparta. It was more strong, small without visitors. City-states would not work today. When I have a family i would want to live in a city. I know there is more people and danger, but I think cityes have more oppotunitys. Theres more things to do, and more places to see. I would wamnt my kids to have more expiriences than they would in the country or small towns.

I would rather live in a small suburb, like i do now, or maybe a smller one. I like the small community feeling. I like knowing almose everyone who lives around me. I would love to live in a really small town because everyone would be so close, like one big family. When i have a family, i would definatly want to live somewhere like white lake. Its safer in my mind than a big city, and cleaner. But not as spread out as other places, so driving wouldnt be too bad. I would also want alot of room to do things. I love where i live now because we have a huge yard and we can do almost anything in it. The city-state allowed people to move closer together, so industry and trade were easier. It also forced new technologies for sanitation and building to accomidate for all of the bodies that kept showing up.

I would want to live in a bigger city like Chicago. That being because there are alot more job opportunities in bigger cities than smaller suburban areas like here in White Lake. But the down side is that alot of people in bigger cities are rude alot of the times. When I do have a family, I want to live in a surburban area. I want to have a nice comfortable house with a nice sized yards for my dogs. It would be difficult to raise a family in a bigger city. I want to be able to settle down and not have to worry about all the crap that goes on in bigger cities.
