Day 5

Technically, we have finished our reading and discussion of Lord of the Flies. I truly hope that you got from the book that people can do evil things based on what is happening to them. People can also choose to work together to avoid these evil inclinations if they think rationally and objectively at situations. The idea of order and chaos is so important to the running of our society as if we do not learn to be more orderly we will continue to be in a downward spiral.

For this evening:

"Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."
Douglas Adams

How does this quote go with the reading of Lord of the Flies? What experiences could have the boys learned from thus not creating such chaos on the island? How is this true for society in general? Give an example where society has proven this quote correct. Finally, is this quote an accurate or inaccurate reflection on your life so far? Why?

After finding the definations to some of the words in this quote, and then putting the words together, i found this quote covering the subject of lazyness or half assing. In the book LOTF, Ralph pointed out his feelings torward Jack and the rest of the hunters and how he felt that he didnt see any work being done by them and that they showed no respect for themselves or show that they really wanted to get off this island. Aside from the book, i feel many people show very low amount of careness or even the wanting to be involved in any thing which now leads to disaster and arguments. One example is the current event i did recently about President Obama winning the Nobel piece prize. When he was congradulated and recieved the prize more than 2/3 of the united states began arguing and bitching about how they felt they had made the wrong decision. Yet, as much as i hate to say it, i do feel that this quote has shown a reflection on my life so far. i feel i have not made as many right choses as i should have and also feel that i have cheated myself. Though this takes place i feel there is always room for improvment and to never stop working hard.

This quote is talking about lazyness. Ralph always thought that jack and his hunters were lazy. He didnt see them doing any work at all. This is very true in cosiety today. Alot of people are lazy and dont want to do what they need to do. An example is some people are to lazy to go and get a job so they can make a living. I feel that this quote is accyrate. I am lazy sometimes too and dont do the best i can in everyday life.

The quote, "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so," from Douglas Adams relates to the Lord of the Flies book. In the Lord of the Flies, the boys are put into an enviroment that is different from the one that they grew up in. It can be difficult to adjust and work together to keep everyone civil. Since this time period was another World War, they should understand that they have to be logical and work together to prevent chaos. For boys like Jack, it's his way or the high way. He purposely acts out against the rules and that is when all the problems start. In society in general, this is also true. If the government didn't work together, then we wouldn't be civil like most of us are today. There are still racist people in the world. Obviously they haven't learned from history, like from the holocaust for example. In my life so far this quote has been pretty accurate. But in some cases it is not. Sometimes you have to be unwilling to the rules for a better change to happen.

This quote closly relates to Lord of the Flies because throughout each chapter everybody on the island learned from each others mistakes and i believe that that is what this quote means. If the kids on the island would have learned from causing so much chaos is 1 dont judge a book by its cover and 2 dont let fear get into your head because it may cause people to crack under pressure. For society today this quote is very importent because everyday we go through experiences that we all have to learn from. An example from where this quote is correct is after september 11th the United States immediatly retaliated against the Taliban and caused alot of pandimonium and i beleive that we have learned to not retaliate so fast. This quote is extremely accurate toward my life because throughout my life i have learned alot from the mistakes my brothers made.

This quote goes hand in hand with Lord of the Flies. They could have realized that they should watch the fire alot more after Jack let it die when there was a boat in the horizon. They could've learned to listen to Piggy because he was almost always right. There are alot of thing society could learn from experience, but most people are too stupid or too impervious to realize what is going on around them. If people could learn from each others experience there wouldn't be as much shit in the world as there is now. If people learned form the past like when the U.S. dropped the two atomic bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima in Japan. People were as ignorant as they are now. All I hear about is how world leaders want World Peace but yet here they are still sending troops to kill other troops. It's funny because in every war the opposing sides think they're right and the other side is wrong. But in actuallity all the World Leaders are doing is killing innocent people for their own selfish deeds. This quote is accurate when it comes to my life. I don't really learn from my or other peoples mistakes and I stiil do stupid things.

This quote talks about how people decide not to learn from another's experience. The boys in LOTF didn't have other experiences to learn from. They had to deal with the whole situation themselves. They could've had something they learned from school like something from a book they read. For society in general, a lot of people decide not to learn from the experiences of others. An example of this could be if somebody had a friend that was in a relationship but they did something to mess it up, but that person went and did the same thing their friend did. So far, for my life, this would be a pretty accurate reflection. I say this because my friends have done things they regret, but I go ahead and do the same thing even though I know my friends regretted doing it.

This quote goes with LOTF because the boys on the island were intelligent and had every capability of survival. They could have learned from each other. Ralph was a good leader, Piggy was inovative, and Jack was a good hunter. Had Jack not rebelled against Ralph, they would have all made it off the island. We all have the ability to learn from others; how we chose to learn from it can impact the outcome of our lives. The boys on the island could have chose to live this experience together and not be divided; the division of the group was their down fall. A ship had already past them by; if they had been diligent in keeping the fire going like Ralph advised, they propably would have been rescued sooner. This is true in our society because we have the choice to live by example; we can chose to learn by the good and positive things people have to offer. Not making the right decision can cause much chaos in your life. An example where this has been proven true is the war in Iraq. Bush started the war saying Sadam had weapons of mass destruction. Which later we found not to be true; jumping the gun has caused a lot of chaos in the world. This is an accurate reflection of my life; I have an older sister that has experienced situations from me; I could have learned from her, however, I chose to ignore what I knew was wrong and do as I pleased. Even though I knew I would be in trouble; I failed to learn from my sisters experience.

In the Lord of the flies this quote holds a big part. The boys learned from each other they hunted when others were hunting and listened to what certain people said. However disinclination was a huge part of the book too. People were unwilling or hesitating to learn from the others wrong actions. Instead of taking the savage like actions and trying to do the right thing, they embraced it. They had no control, no sense of what they were doing. Hesitation to do the right thing is what got them in trouble. Soon it did not matter if they started changing they were already to deep in disinclination of others actions. When Simon was killed, the boys did not stop and accept the actions they denied it. They went on pretending it was not their fault that they did no wrongdoing. In general society sometimes hesitates when it comes to accepting the actions of others. People look and see what others are doing and know it is wrong. Yet sometimes they do not stop the actions and could even join in on them. This quote for my life can go both ways. Sometimes I know things are wrong but I don't accept it and I get into trouble. Then again there are times that I understand I do not want to get into some actions of other and refrain from joining in.

This quote relates to Lord of the Flies because the boys had the opportunity to learn from the actions of their parents, but they didn't. Douglas Adams is saying that people have the ability to learn from others, but many times they do not. The parents of the boys were at war, and the boys had a chance to learn from this, but instead they did not. They followed in the footsteps of their parents, and became violent as well. They saw the destruction that their parents created, but still created destruction of their own, burning down an island and killing two boys. They could have learned from their parents, and could have prevented those things from happening. This is true for society because we have so many opportunities to learn from our ancestors. Because we have been in a depression before, we can learn how to prevent it now. Everyday we can learn from history. This quote is accurate for my life right now because I try to learn from my mistakes. If I know something doesn't work for me, then I'm not going to do it. I wouldn't repeat a mistake twice if I could prevent it.

Trevor Stratton said...

This Qoute is saying that no matter what happened on the island, most of the boys did not learn from their mistakes. Raplh and Piggy seemed to be the only ones who ever learned from their mistakes. Jack never learned from his mistakes, the first time he let the fire go out they missed a chance to be resceud. But no Jack did not learn, he just kept let the fire go out. So yes I think this qoute fits in perfectly with Lord of the Flies. If the boys did not turn on each other they might have been able to organize a plan that would have aloud them to go hunting everyday, and were able to keep the fire going. But instead they just said, hell to law and order, and just went on doing what ever they pleased. This is true for society because everyday people make mistakes, and they can learn from them. For example; if you do something wrong at a job, someone would usually tell you what you did wrong, and then you would not make that same mistake again. Yes this quote is accurate in reflection on my life. This is becaause, I feel that sometimes I do not try my hardest on things, so therefore I have to do it again until I get it right. So from that I learned to just take my time and do it right from the start.

This goes with reading Lord of the Flies because we learned what makes and breaks a government. We found out what a branches governments need, like someone who inforces the laws. The boys could have learned how to function as a society without the chaos. This quote is try because governments learned how to function based on what other governments have done in the past. They ended up learning from the other mistakes. The United States, like many others, did this. Instead of created the same exact government as where they came the chose a different one. Instead of kings and queens we created presidents and checks and balances. However, at first we tried to make George Washington our king, which would have created the same exact government we left. Luckily he said no and became our president instead. This is sometime true in my life so far. Most of the times I do learn from my mistakes, but sometimes I can't help myself and make the same ones over and over again.

This quote relates to Lord of the Flies by each boy makes mistakes throught the book. The boys could of learned how to be more grown-up, and being able to survive on the island without any troubles. It would of been very hard to do what they boys had to go through. This is very true to today society. A lot of people just do whatever and think, they will be fine. But it turns out they dont do so well in life. I think this quote is somewhat true. Sometimes I really dont know what to do. But I just have to choose and whatever happens, happens.

The quote goes along with Lord of the Flies because it is saying that people recongnize the wrong doings of others but then go and do the same thing themself. They don't relaize that what theya re doing is the same and just as bad, or good. The boys should have learned from the experience when the ship passed by and the fire was out. They should have learned right then and there that that can never happen again, but they didn't. The boys could have also used the basic things they learned in school to prevent chaos, if they actualy applied it to their life. This is true for society in general because, society always says whats right and wrong, but then continues to make no improvement or change. For example, equal rights for all people. Society has failed to make this true, although we say we do. For instance gay rights are not equal to that of other things therefore contradicting its own laws. I would say this quote is inaccurate based on as reflection of my life, because I try to learn from everything that happens and to actualy do what I say and live by my words. If I didn't then I would be lying to myself and living in a false world.

This quote relates to Lord of the Flies becuase they had a chance to learn from their parents, but they chose not to. All the boys could have listened to their parents about survival, but they didnt. Ralphs dad was in the military, so he could of learned from him but he didnt. They could of learned to be cival adults, but instead they were chaotic and burnt down an island. For society in general, i think we had a chance to learn from past events, like the great depression. Because now we are in another depression, so we chose not to learn from the mistakes. I think this quote is accurate in my life because im the type of person that learns from my mistakes. I tend not to repeat past mistakes, because why would i repeat mistakes that have already gotten me into trouble?

This quote is saying that no matter what each boy did, no one learned from eachothers mistakes. One event that the boys could've learned from was when a boat passed the island, and the fire was out. Ralph made it clear he didn't want the fire to be left unattended, for the reason that there was no smoke signal for the boat to see. Yet, Jack really didn't care too much about the fire, he cared more about the fact that he had gotten a pig. This is true to society because law says all people are equal. Yet, they contradict themselves by keeping gay rights illegal. I believe this quote to be an inaccurate relection of my life. I try to learn from, not only my own, but others mistakes as well. I would be stupid if I continued to make the same mistakes over and over.

This quote has a lot to do with Lord of the Flies. This book was written right after WWII, a time of turmoil and despair for most of the world. The boys all knew that without order and rationality, societies fall, as should have been obvious after World War II. Like I previously said, these kids grew up during WWII. They all should know what happens when you lose order and rationality. When order and rationality give way to chaos and confusion everything goes to hell. This quote fits all societies. Over the hundreds of years, all of our ancestors stupid mistakes have been repeated. Society may be learning from previous mistakes, but much like people individually, they need to make the mistake more than once apparently. Personally, I believe that society is doing the same thing to homosexaul's as society did to African Americans. They are being discriminated against because they are misunderstood. I believe it is accurate. I can honestly say that I have made mistakes more than once before I learned my lesson. For example Tennis. I am still making mistakes, and i am still learning. People are supposed to make mistakes. It is only a problem, if you dont try and learn from them.

This quote by Douglas Adams goes with Lotf because they are not learning from their own mistakes and things end up getting really out of hand. You would think that once they went fire crazy and ended up burning the kid with the mark on his face, that they would stop and think about their actions. They don't. And by not learning from that, Simon and Piggy are killed and the island turns into a dictatorship under Jack and terrorized by the violence of Roger. This is true in society because there are a lot of people doing really stupid things and the behavior doesn't stop if people were learning from their mistakes. A specific example is stealing or any other crime. People get caught stealing all the time and yet, they still try it and wind up getting in trouble. I guess this is an accurate reflection on my life but not entirely. I learn from a lot of my mistakes but theres some that I just keep repeating or things that my friends have done that I try to get away with. Sometimes it works, but a lot of times it doesn't. I think everyone would be a lot smarter if they learned from their mistakes but that doesn't always happen and we have to try everything for ourselves.

This quote relates to LOTF because throughout each chapter everybody on the island learned from each others mistakes, as most people do. Kind of like the fire. they learned that letting it go out all the time was a big mistake. They could of got rescued if it was light. Also when piggy says things me is usually right all of the time. They all should of listened to him more. our society really has a hard time excepting others sometimes. Where someone could be the smartest person and we don't really think of that. we make decisions based on what we think. I would think that this quote is accurate in my life. I think this because i really dont follow peoples mistakes. If i want to do something ill do it and learn from my own mistakes. and somttimes i dont even learn from my self

This quote relates to LOTF because the boys are not learning from their mistakes. This leads to things becoming really crazy and chaotic. The boys could have learned by not letting fear affect them. If they didnt make such a big deal of fear and the beast, they could have been more controlled. The whole story they were freaked out because of the beast. Thye feared it would kill them or do them harm. They actually were doing themselves the harm. If they could have kept control of themselves they could have had more order and civility on the island. This is true for society because learning from the past helps prevent the same thing from happening in the future. This relates to things as big as murder to things like theft and robbery. Especially nowadays, people are doing stupid things. Even when they get caught, if they have the chance to do it again, 9 times out of 10 they will. This quote is somewhat accurate in my life. I learn from my mistakes most of the time but sometimes I do something really stupid and have put myself in a situation more than one time.

The quote, "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so," from Douglas Adams relates to the Lord of the Flies book. First off, there is a lot of things they could have done to prevent problems and get rescued earlier; but they didn't do that. So what did they do? They learned from their mistakes. When Samneric let the fire go out when there was a boat on the horizon they didn't kill them for it. They learned from Samneric's laziness and moved on. After Jack seperated from Ralphs "tribe"; Jack took what Ralph did right and used, but took what everyone didn't like and abolished it from his tribe. A good example of when Society has proven this quote correct is 9/11. Before 9/11 America was lazy, they still are. However, before 9/11 we thought no one would do anything to harm us. We thought we were safe. It took one small terrorist group and one attack to shake our whole world. We learned from our mistakes on that day and tightened up our security of the country. This quote is an accurate reflection of my life so far. I was lazy this past semester and put work in front of school. My job is a lazy job. I admit it, there is nothing hard about my job. It's very boring and pays more than your average high school job. I get paid $8.15 to sit on my ass all day. I am taking time off of work and putting school ahead of me now. I realize that If I want to get paid more than $8.15 my whole life I need to get good grades and go to college.

This quote relates to many of the boys actions in Lord of the Flies. Much of the chaos on the island is caused by not realizing that one's or another's action are incorrect. As time progresses and as the boys are stranded on the island they lose their insight to right and wrong. Since they are at such young ages they do what others do by examle. They mimick them. Society in general is exactly like this. From style trends to what brands of food to buy people tend to do what others do. Comercials are a huge impact on the human mindset. When we see beautiful women wearing a certain brand of makeup we want to buy that makeup so we look just like them even though the makeup may be a pointless purchase. This quote is about half way true in the reflection of my life so far. I do learn from mine and other people's faults and actions but because of distrations or wrong choices that I make my decisions may not reflect what I have learned not to do or to do.

I think that this quote means that we are all capable of learning for others mistakes, but we rarely do. This quote connects to LOTF because the majority of the boys, at least the older boys, have seen what not working together does to societies. the boys could have learned their lesson through other society failure, but they didn't. from this experience the boys could have learned an immense amount of teamwork and what it means to work with others. this experience also would have caused them to grow up faster and learn things many people may never even have the chance to. this is semi true in society today. for example were in an economic recession but we haven't reached a depression. i think in ways the government learned what to do to keep us out of depression, but they could have learned more to keep us from recession. this quote is true to myself as well. Its hard to learn from others mistakes because i always think that i'm different and things like that wouldn't happen to me. and theres also just curiosity of things that lead us to making stupid mistakes. once you learn the mistake for yourself its easy to never do it again. but to learn in from someone else doesn't come close to the same amount of impact.

This quote goes with the reading because the characters of "LOTF's" shows how they had learned to adapt into a civilized culture. At first they were doing things just fine by establishing rules, shelter etc. After they realized work was not fun they soon became lazy. This laziness made problems. Jack decided he was tired of the old system and wanted to form his own. Now that everyone went to separate groups they found out it was much harder. This is true for society because some people just think they know it all. This can lead to a downfall to some countries or cultures. I think my life so far may have been like this because in some ways I can be like this.

This quote relates to lord of the flies because they didnt learn from each other. THey all didnt take any advice or suggestions from others, they thought they all knew everyhting. Next, they only didnt learn from each other, but htey didnt learn from their surroundings. They were too used to their home life and didnt let themselves adapt. If they didnt learn chaos, they would have learned more survival skills and had a more enjoyable time on the island. I feel this is true for society because sometimes people refuse to adapt. I tihnk that in Lord of the flies this happenned when they refused to keep the fire going when the ship passed by. So far in my life i feel i have done an okay job at this. I am somewhat stubborn, but i still try to be open to what people tell me would be good for myself.

The quote has to do with Lord of the Flies because the boys on the island as an example, jack had a chance to change how they act but instead they followed like the adult back home. They were in a war back home so they knew about killing and war. The boys could have learned from the adults back in England and see that killing people is not the best way. But they didn't learn from them and ended up killing Simon and Piggy. People say history repeats itself and so then people could learn from what people did before them. With Americas economy being bad you think people would learn from what people did during the last depression, but for some reason people don't. And for my life so far, I try to learn from my mistakes and not make those mistakes again.

This quote by Douglas Adams goes with the reading of Lord of the Flies because it is saying that the boys had the ability to look at the things around them, learn from them and realize that they needed order, yet they still remarkably chose not to because of that human instinct of free will. The experiences that the boys could have learned of were right in front of their face. World War II was going on right at the very moment. They could have looked at that and seen that without order, look what happens; world chaos and war. This quote is true for society in general because for example there hasnt only been one world war, theres been 2, and now a possible 3rd some say. That proves this quote correct, basically saying that people have the resources around them to learn from, yet they choose to make the same mistakes for some reason. This quote is kind of both an inaccurate and accurate reflection of my life so far. Sometimes I will admit that I do things, that I should have already learned were wrong in the past, but other times I do do the right things.

This quote relates to Lord of the Flies a lot. One way is they could have listened to each other more. Even though they were little they still knew how there government worked and they could have modeled it in some ways. Also while they were on the island they could have learned from Jack's mistake of not watching the fire constantly. Also if they would have all helped eachother then it wouldn't have been so chaotic. Our society could also learn from their mistakes. By studing history we can learn what mistakes other leaders and societies made and pervent them. Like wars, some wars are pointless and could be pervented. No, this quotes is not correct in my life. My brother and mom have made stupid mistakes and by watching them I know not to do it. I didn't have to try it out on my own to learn that it was stupid.

this quote makes perfect sense in the LOTF because many times it is shown that everybody had their own personality and also had different appinions on how things should be ran on the island. The boys should have learned that if there is no order, and no respect for each other, then survival was going to be harder. In general, this is true for our society as well because in our society, cooperation means advancement, and also a peaceful life. We all have people that we dont exactly like, but if everybody tried to control everything, then there would always be chaos, and violence. An example of this in society is the years of slavery. When that was happening, the north was fighting our southern, slavery states. This created a tear between our society and created two different appinions about how our society should have been ran. But we learned from what we did, and have learned to listen to each other, and that keeps order. And last, this is true in my life with my parents. My parents are to leader figure, and I obey there decisions. I learn from mistakes my parents sometimes make, and use that knowledge to better my life.

Kaleigh S said...

This quote goes with the reading of Lord of the Flies because the boys had to learn from each others experiences. Although they could have learned from the mistakes every person made on the island and moved forward, they seemed like they did not care about learning from each others' mistakes and because of it they start to lose order. The boys could have learned that they need to follow rules of the island, such as listening to each other, because when they don't, meetings get nowhere. If they had given everybody a fair chance to speak their mind, it may have resolved rising tensions between boys. They should have realized to stop acting on emotion after they had killed Simon, and they could have started to think a little more logically, thus saving Piggy possibly. For society in general, I think it is true because even though we hear and see stories all the time about how people do stupid things that mess up their lives, people continue to do it anyway. If people learned from others' mistakes, we could have less drug problems and alcohol abuse. People might learn to not drink and drive and other bad choices. I think this quote is slightly right as a reflection of my life. There are mistakes of others that I have learned from and that I have chosen not to do. Then again, there are a few things that even though people have gone through and told me wouldn't be the best, I still had to learn the hard way. For the most part, I think we as humans don't truly know the pain a bad choice costs you until you do it yourself, so that is why we continue to make the same mistakes.

The quote connects with LOTF because they both have to do with laziness. For example Ralph complains about how all Jack wants to do is go hunt hogs. Also how all of the choir boys do is wander around the island and don't really do anything else but hunt. The boys on the island should have been able to prevent chaos because they lived in Great Britian during World War Two and lived though chaos as the Germans bombed London to pieces. From this expience they should have known how to deal with total chaos. This quote is true for most of society because most people would rather make there own mistakes than learn form other people's mistakes. Myself personally would rather learn from somebody else's misfortune than my own. Most of the time I learn from other people's mistakes and not mine. But I am human and make my share of mistakes.

This quote by Douglas Adams can have many meanings. Personally, I believe that this quote means that each and every human being is able and capable of learning from others mistakes. Along with this ability, the human race is known to completely disregard others mistakes and refuse to learn from them. This quote goes with the reading of lord of the flies because on the island the boys see how Simon was killed accidentally because they thought he was the beast yet the jack followers did not learn from the mistakes they made, leading to their friends death. This led to Piggy's death and Ralph being chased around the island with spears and fire. The boys could have learned from all of these experiences but chose not to. This is true for society in general all across the world in many ways. In general, society doesn't learn from their mistakes because history seems to repeat itself and there are many things like wars and disasters that could have been prevented due to human beings not learning from others mistakes. This quote is an inaccurate representation of my life so far because I learn from others mistakes as well as my own. When I see my friends struggling with things, I know that it is best to not get involved with such things. Furthermore, I believe that society would benefit greatly if they learned from their mistakes.

Learning from our mistakes is something we all have to do at some point in our lives, usually many times. But, it is a part of life and hopefully we do learn from them and do not make the same mistake again. This quote is saying that we are the ones who have the unique ability to learn from our mistakes but sometimes we dont learn from them and end up repeating them. In the novel Lord of the Flies the boys had many chances to learn from their mistakes. The first one would be when they let the fire get out of control and lost the boy with the mulberry stain on his face. This should have made them realize the importance of working together to keep things under control. But, in the novel the opposite happpens. They constantly fail to work together in the book. Also, the first time they let the fire go out and got into an argument they should have realized the importance of the fire and making sure someone was tending to it at all times. However, the fire goesour numerous times in the book causing even more arguments between the boys. In society this quote us proven true all the time. People see others get put in jail and live terrible lives for commiting crimes like murder. But, look how many people are still out there killing others. Its a drastic example but its true. In my life i hope i tend to learn from my mistakes but i know there are times that i dont. Usually if i dont it would be in thankgs at home. For example, if my mom tells me i need to do something and i dont and she gets frustrated and i see her getting annoyed with me and maybe she yells at me that doesnt mean that the next time she asks me to do something im going to do it. Or, if i didnt study for my test and i get a bad grade then i might say to myself "Next time in going to study really hard." But, when that next test rolls around i might do the same thing as last time. Its an everyday thing, learning from our mistakes. I just hope that everyone learns from the big ones.

The quote "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so." by Douglas Adams relates to Lord of the Flies because the boys had the ability to learn from the experinence of other and their surronding but they choose not to. During this time was also World War II, so the boys had some knowledge of what happens when theres no order. In society we need rules and order for things to go right, without them, just like back then it will turn into chaos. This quote has been proven corect because we have the opportunities to learn from our ancestors and from previos wars, but we continue to do things that cause the problems that did back then too. This quote relates to my life because i try to learn from my mistakes the most i can. I also try to learn from other peoples mistakes, but sometimes i find myself in that same situation more than once hich means i obviously didnt learn my lesson.

I think that the quote is saying that our life lessons can teach us alot. I also feel that it is saying that ontop of our mistakes we can learn from others mistakes also. The boys on the island had learned this the hard way. They were not lookingout for each other and more than one of them had died. They had learned that the fire was important when a ship had passed the island and yet still felt it was on the bottom of the priority list. We all have made mistakes and not learned from them. I have been in many situations were I knew that what I was doing was wrong because either I or a friend of mine has made that mistake before. I chose not to learn from the mistake and ended up in trouble for it. It is human nature to not learn from our mistakes but it does not mean that it is right.

i think this quote goes with the lord of the flies a lot. They could have learn from each other and done a decent job on the island but they decidided to be selfish. Everyone wanted what was best for themselves, including ralph. I think they could have learned from world war 2. All these countries involved got involved in the same chaos as world war 1 but didnt learn anything from it. Could you imagine what the world would be like if world war 2 didnt happen? Probably it would be a whole lot more peaceful. I think society has proven this quote to be correct by making decisions even if we know they are wrong. For example if someone decides to drink and drive they know its wrong. They know millions have died from it but they do it anyway. They didnt learn anything from those past expiriences. I think this quote is true with my life and a lot of other peoples rights because everyone makes dumb choices. We all regret things and do things twice when we should have learned from it the first time.

This quote is referring to laziness. This quote relates to the book because Ralph points out laziness within the boys. He didnt see them doing any practical work, compared to him. This quote definitly relates to society today. We all thought we learned from our mistake of voting in President Bush, but many people think history is repeating itself with President Obama. I believe we were so focused on what was wrong with the world and what needed to be fixed, when we heard Obama say he would make things better we lied to ourselves and believed him. I do not think even 95% of people did their research. We're lazy. This does relate to my life. I am willing to work my ass off at school, but than i just wanna come home and sleep. I become lazy when put into ceratin situtations and sometimes do not give my all, but I am a junior now and it is time to grow up.
