My current event is on How Many Troops are enough for Afghanistan? The decision of how many tropps the U.S. should send to Afghanistan is a very difficult decision to be made. As we have seen in history these decisions have a lasting affect on our future. Currently President Obama and his top military , national & policy advisors are trying to determine the amount of troops we should send to Afghanistan. The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan indicated they might add 40,000 more troops. VP Joe Biden would like to use special forces and techology to reduce the # of al Queda insurgents. I think we need to invest in more technology in these areas; therefore, we might not have to send as many troops. War is a very difficult situation and these decisions affect each and everyone of us (including our future generations). Al queda is here to stay and we need to find away to deal with them. Even if we add more troops the fight will remain tough. Just last week 8 U.S. soldiers were killed. I don't think anyone ever anticipated the lenght of time the U.S. would have to stay present in Afghanistan.

A big current event that is happening around the world in the Swine flu. Vaccination against the Swine flu has started in the United States, and will soon begin in Europe. There is a big issue of whether or not people should get the N1H1 shot. Healthcare workers are a top priority for vaccination because they can infect vulnerable people. Many hospital employees in the US are protesting against rules saying they must be vaccinated or lose their jobs. Children are also at the top of the list to get vaccinated. However, according to a poll by the University of Michigan 40% of US parents said they won't vaccinate their kids. Many health workers and parents argue that the Swine flu is not dangerous enough to justify the potential side effects of a vaccine. This event affects me personally because my parents are debating on whether or not myself and my family are going to get the vaccine. Due to my heart condition it is neccessary that I get the regular flu shot, which I did. My parents think I should get the N1H1shot but they are really worried about the side effects. My dad told me that in 1976 more people died from the vaccine than from the actual flu. This event is affecting my community because people could go unprotected from the flu and get seriously ill, or they could be completly fine. On the other hand people could get the vaccine and be protected against the flu or they could become ill from getting the vaccine. In the beggining of the news about the Swine flu I felt that the media was making too much hype over it, but now after seeing that 76 kids have died from the flu im really concerned about the flu and the vaccine.

Colorado is the first state to drop their minimum wage $7. 24, which is lower than the federal minimum wage. Colorado is one of 10 states where the minimum wage is tied to inflation. This current event affects our community because you usually see a trend in the laws passed throughout the United States. I am not sure if Michigan is one of the ten states who are experiencing this problem, but I know that we are experiencing economic turmiol of our own. No other states are planning a minimum wages drop as of now. Now workers in Colorado can be expecting less pay as of Janurary 2010. The economy afffects everyone in one way or another, and the government of our state and our country are trying a lot of different things to try to make it better. I know the promise scholarship was cut in michigan to save money, which effects all of us from the opportunity for college money.

For my current event, i have chose to talk about and comment the current status of Obamas recognition and the Noble Piece Prize. One of the main topics lately in news is the uproar of people who disagree with the choice made of the Noble prize when it was gaven to President Obama. Many feel the president has done alot to help the community and could be a runner for the prize but yet feel he did not deserve to win it. Yet the Norwegian committee that gave Barack Obama the Nobel Peace Prize are strongly defending their choice against a storm of criticism. The people disagreeing feel the award was premature and a potential liability for the U.S. president.
Personally, I dont know much about the Noble piece Prize and the requirements to win but i do have a feeling it takes a good person in society who is trying to change things and helping others out. I feel Oboma is a candidate for this as well but also feel he should not have one this. Not that i do not like the president ut i feel for being such new head in society, he has shown to little to base a big prize like that off of.

For my current event blog I am going to blog about a big story in the local news today. This previous Friday a mother had set her house on fire intentionally. Inside were her 3 year old son, and her 4 year old son. There was alot of controversey over this as to whether or not it was intentional. It was later confirmed that it was. The woman is being charged with first and second degree murder as well as arson. Things like this keep happening in our communities and it is making our area look horrible. The woman was obviously unfit for motherhood and needed to have her children taken before something like this happened. It seems like once a week we here about things like this happening and my question is why are we letting people that are going to do shit like this have children? I think its crap and it needs to be taken care of. I realize that we can't take care of all of these situatuions before they happen, but im sure there is a way out there to greatly reduce the number of situations like this one.

This week, it didn't even take me a second to decide what my current event would be. I knew right away that I was going to discuss the Nobel Peace Prize. This prominent award is given out once a year, to one person all across the globe. It is a renowned accomplishment that only a few acclaimed people even dream to receive. It is not only a representation of honor but a way the globe shows appreciation for leaders who spend their entire lives working to create an improved world for all. The foundation awards people for making ground breaking accomplishments that lead to an exceptional advancement in fields varying from medical technology and chemistry to peace and literature. The winner of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize was Barack Obama for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy" (NobelPrize.com) While it can be argued that besides becoming the first minority president, he has yet to do anything classified as being very extraordinary, the foundation claims they hope that the award will encourage him to do good things throughout his presidency. Regardless of whether you are an Obama fan, Democrat or Republican, it is outrageous that an award as prestigious as the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to a man in hopes that it will encourage him to do something remarkable during his presidency. This relates to me and my life in the fact that according to this philosophy, rewards should be given to people so that hopefully they will actually earn it in the end, leaving them with absolutely nothing to work towards. If awards as huge as the Nobel Peace Prize begin to be taken lightly and given away to people who have yet to genuinely earn it, there is a chance that the ones whom actually deserve such an honor, will lose a part of their inspiration and encouragement to change the world for the better.

My current event blog is about a recent survey by top economists, who think that the recession is finally over. The survey says that even though 80% of top economists think the recession is over, they don't expect any meaningful improvement in jobs, credit or housing for a while yet. In the survey 43 top economists were asked if they thought that the U.S. economy was recovering from the worst downturn in U.S. history since World War II. Thirty-five of the economists believe that the U.S. is recovering, 4 of the economists think we are still in a recession, and the other 4 economists are unsure. I don't see how these people think the recession is over yet. There are still families that are struggling to barely get by. People are still homeless, jobless, and more importantly hopeless. Untill I see proof that the recession is over I won't believe anything they say.

On October 9th, NASA launched a rocket that is meant to hit the moon to see if there is water under the surface of the moon. After the missle struck the moon there was a picture taken to see if there is any form of water under the surface, the picture that was taken did not show any sign of water but that is only one picture and there could be water that was not shown in the picture. If we found water on the moon that would be a huge break through in the exploration of space because then we would be able to perminatly put a station on the moon that can we could put astronauts and they can explore the moon without having to go back and forth which costs billions of dollars. If you look at what we have done in the past 60 years or so you would think that we have discovered alot of the outer space, but in reality we still have so much to learn about outer space. It is crucial that the US needs to discover more about the outer space because in history it has shown that we have been slacking in the Astronomy department, i mean we were the first people in the moon... big whoop, we wernt the first to put something in space and we need a break through.

In Delaware, there is a student, 6 years old, who was told that he had to go to reform school for 45 days. The boy, Zachary Christie, was going to school like any other day and brought his Swiss Army-type combination of fork, spoon, bottle opener and knife to school. He is attached to this tool, that he even eats his breakfast and dinner with it, at home. The tool was given to him, from his parents, to go on his Boy Scout trips with. One day he took it to school to simply eat lunch with it. Zachary didn’t know that it was forbidden to bring his favorite camping tool to school. When he was walking off the bus, the tool dropped out of his pocket. As he went to pick it up, a teacher asked him to give the tool to her. She reported the “issue” to the principal and suspended him for 45 days. The school board has a zero-tolerance for weapons, which was mainly started because of the Columbine High School massacre. One other large reason for their zero-tolerance is because of racial issues with the teachers giving harsher punishment to African Americans. No one asked Zachary why he brought his most prized possession to school; they just punished him with out questioning. Once he and his mom went in front of the school board, she expressed that she understands the rules, but does not understand why they could not take a teacher who knows Zachary (along with his mature actions for 6) and explain the situation. This boy even comes to school with a tie and button up shirt to school because he wants to, yet gets automatically suspended for 45 days in reform school because he did something he didn’t know he couldn’t do. The school board is looking toward a reprieve, but is undecided at this point. To me, having a 6 year old suspended for 45 days because he brought something to school he wasn’t supposed to is completely unfair. No one told him that it was wrong, besides having a teacher take the tool from him and then suspend him. This is Zachary’s favorite thing we “owns”, he even eats with it all the time at home and during camping trips. To think, this child being 6 years old could now think of himself as a “bad boy” and that he is not a good person because these teachers are completely flipping out on him. This is cruel and unusual punishment, and I think the school board should reprieve him.

Today for my current event I would like to talk about the French military fending off a pirate attack on two fishing boats. This happened hundreds of miles off the coast of east Africa. As the pirates got closer to the boats,French military forces fired warning shots to the pirates. The pirates pulled back and no one was hurt luckily. However a second incident occurred when Somalian Pirates openly fired at French vessels.In my opinion stuff like this is happening way to much. I think it is so strange that these events are still happening in present day. Pirate activity happened in 1980 in Somalia when they had claimed they were stopping illegal fishing and dumping. I think the people who are terrorizing boats are abusing there power. Pirating was claimed to be started for a good cause, but now all it has gotten out of control and needs to be fixed.

What could be a parents worst nightmare? Losing their children would be the answer. This past weekend, 2 year old twins Annalise and Aspen Niva-Wiggle drown in their family pool. Even though they have gates with locks and a pretty secure safety system the girls somehow got into the pool area. As assumed, the girls were going to fill their tea cups up with water, unlocking the gate somehow, when they accidentally fell in. Their father found his two toddlers unconcious in the pool. His wife and him tried CPR but that didn't work. One died that night, the other one died the next morning. This kind of tragedy happens all over the world. It leaves families and friends heartbroken. Just looking away for a few moments could become danger in so many ways. This type of story proves that not everything you would assume safe, is necessarily true. Everyone needs to be careful and be aware that accidental tragedys can happen at any moment.

The current event I chose for today is about geothermal energy in Alaska. Bernie Karl invented a portable geothermal generator that uses energy from heat to make power. One generator can power 250 average size American houses per year. He calls himself an imagineer and discovered this at the Cheyna Hot Springs Resort. The water that is powering this is 165 degrees Fahrenheit, about the temperature of a cup of coffee. I think this relates to the world in a big way. There is a lot of concern about gasoline and wasting natural resources and this is a good solution to a lot of those problems. If one man in Alaska can save that much energy in a year then I think we all do a better job of conserving and using what we have available. It is important to see that there are other, more environmental options.

A Senate committee approved a health care plan. This health care plan will help Obama's goal of a wider and affordable health care plan become more like reality. Olympia Snowe, a Republican from Maine, voted to advance the bill. This bill would help most Americans get coverage without the government having to have to create a new government insurance plan. Snowe voted in support along with 14 other Republicans. All the other Republicans voted against it.
To me this is awesome. I don't see why the Republicans who voted against it wouldn't want it. It's going to help millions of Americans get coverage.

The current event i have chosen to write about is Deerfield Beach, Florida. There three teenagers intentionally lit 15 year old Michael Brewer on fire. Brewer owed one of the teens money and when he didn't pay him the other teenager stole his dads bike. Because Michael told the cops with took his fathers bike he was set on fire. I think this is sick and disturbing. And it's hard to believe that there are people out there that would do something like this. I'd believe that the teenager was insane or there was something mentally wrong with him to do this, but there were three boys involved in lighting another teen on fire. I don't know if its just my generation, or the things we've been introduced to that makes some of us be so entirely screwed up.

There are a lot of problems happening in our world today, but I choose to do mine about a serious health issue. The problem being obesity. For example Chris Christie the man who is running for governer of New Jersey. His opponent Jon Corzine seems to be talking about it more and more. Governer Jon Corzine says that he is not making an issue of it but he has mentioned it quite a few times during the campaigning. In an interview with The Press of Atlantic City,when asked about it he said "am I bald" making fun of Mr. Christie. A new Public Policy Polling survey said that 47% of the people polled claimed it would not be an issue that Mr. Christie is a little overweight. Most people won't admit that his weight would be an issue. This is a really big issue because everyone is always making fun of how people look. Mr. Christie could have a lot of good ideas and be a great govener if given the chance. But no one focuses on that, they focus on what he looks like.

Today, a 17 year old Eagle Scout was suspended for 20 days for having a 2 inch knife locked away in his car. As an Eagle Scout he was a lways prepared. Along with the knife he kept a sleeping bag, water, and food, so all he was doing was being prepared if something should happen. However, an unknow person told the vice principle of the school, and when asked if he had a knife with him he said no its locked in my car. He then showed the authorities his knife, thinking it was no big deal, and they suspended him for five days. However, after a hearing it got upped to 20 days. The police officer at his school said that he was not doing anything illegal so there could be no action taken against him. However, this is debatable to some. This just shows hpow much more strict the schools are nowadays. It is getting kind of rediculous and it affects us all. Why is a 2 inch knife any more dangerous than eveyday things you find at school? It's just like a baseball bat from the baseball team. A bat could easily be used to hurt someone. I think this qhole thing is really rediculous.

The current event I have chosen is the rising gas prices. Prices have risen four straight days and the cost for a barrel of crude is up 4 percent since last week. Most energy experts believe that the U.S. government will report again this week that more unused gasoline and oil is heading into storage. Rising gas prices effect me because I get my license soon, and I am currently jobless. Meaning, I won't be able to go anywhere because my parents won't always want to foot the bill for my gas til I do get a job. And, in this economy, finding a job isn't going to be the easiest task. But, I don't understand why gas prices are going up, if we have the money to store the gas. I just don't want it to come to me not driving because I can't put gas in my car. I've waited long enough for my license, and I already have a car. I don't not want to drive it.

Today for my current event I chose Senate panel OKs health reform bill. President Obama expressed satisfaction Tuesday with the Senate Finance Committee's passage of a health care bill, but said more work remains. The committee passed the long-awaited $829 billion bill Tuesday by a 14-9 vote. Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, was the lone committee member to cross party lines, breaking with other Republicans to vote for the measure. All of the panel's Democrats supported the bill. The plan is projected to extend coverage to an additional 29 million Americans. The committee's bill would subsidize insurance for poorer Americans, establish nonprofit health care cooperatives and create health insurance exchanges to make it easier for small groups and individuals to purchase coverage. This relates to the community because it’s not fair that poor citizens have to pay for health care, so I believe in this health reform. Also because, it gives poorer individuals the right to have health insurance.

I seem to always find stories on teens that harm other teens. I think they stand out to me because I can’t believe that someone my age would harm another so badly. This time I came across a group of teens setting another on fire. The suspect stole the victims’ bike and the victim reported the missing bike on Sunday and the suspect was taken to a detention center and was later released to his parents. That Monday neither one went to school and that night it was said that they found him at grab him and yelled has a snitch pour it on him. They ended up pouring rubbing alcohol on him and lit him on fire. The kid suffered from 2nd degree burns over 80% of his body and is hospitalized for 5 months. This is scary berceuse all of this is al over a bike getting stolen. It’s crazy and not right. I have had my bike stolen and caught the person that did it but never lit them on fire theres other ways to deal with smaller issues.

In my current event i would like to talk about how the navy is allowing women aboard navy. The Navy is considering allowing women to serve aboard submarines for the first time, 16 years after bringing female sailors onto surface combat ships. Some sailors and wives warn that putting men and women together in extremely close quarters underwater for weeks at a time is just asking for sexual harassment cases and wrecked marriages. But supporters of the idea say it is a matter of fairness and equal opportunity, and what worked on ships can work in subs. Now i agree in some aspects how this could be wrong be in another case if women choose to join the navy they should be able to in list. If the women are conformable with the situation, then i don't see how it wouldn't. work out. Women should have the right to do what the want to even if it means joining the navy with men.

For my current event I will talk about the Swine Flu. Today there was a confirmed outbreak in dearborn at the school of Edsel Ford, now people may think " well what does that have to do with us? we live in white lake?" well for most people it doesnt, but it directly effects me. Last year I moved from dearborn to white lake, I did go to edsel ford and I still have friends that go there. Now I fear that my friends could die from this diseas, and there is a possibility that I could get the Swine Flu because I go back there to hangout with friends that still go there. Also there is a chance that the kid that contracted the disease could be one of my friends and it would just make me feel like crap if one of my friends died. But now people in white lake have something to fear, if people travel from D-bo to white lake, the disease can spread all up in white lake causing some serious problems. So for my final sentence I want to give a warning to people to wash there hands before eating, and stay healthy.

The current event I am using is about the rise of people using tanning beds. Even after all of the warnings about tanning beds people (mostly girl) still continue yo use them on a daily basis. Everyday two million people tan in indoor beds. Obviously this is a raising as issue. People who are 15 are getting skincancer ffrom tanning in indoor beds. I myself have tanned in a tanning bed and it frightens me to know people younger than me are getting skincancer from this. My mom has been tanning in indoor beds for years now, and this makes me wonder if she will get skin cancer one dayif someone as young asthe age of 15 is.

For my current event I am going to talk about the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to President Obama. He was awarded this prize not even a year into his first term and many think for no reason at all did he deserve this great honor. The Norwegian Nobel Committee said the prize was awarded to Mr. Obama for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples" and cited the president's outreach to the Muslim world. The committee said Mr. Obama's efforts to promote a "global response to global challenges" helped their decision as well. Basically what they are saying is that this prize was awarded to President Obama as a kind of "encouragement to keep trying" in hopes that he will fullfill everything he has said or set out to do. This affects me and my world completely. By being awarded this award President Obama feels "deeply humbled". I feel that because of the prestige of this award President Obama, being the man that he is, will work harder to fullfill the awarders of this prizes expectations hence making life better for us.

Today i will talk about the Five juveniles who were put in custody Tuesday after a 15-year-old was intentionally set on fire at a Deerfield Beach, Florida, apartment complex. The boys name was Michael Brewer he suffered from second degree burns over 80 percent of his body. Three of the kids who did this were arrested Monday night, hours after the incident. The two others were arrested Tuesday. The kids all attend school together. Brewer apparently owed one of the suspects $40 for a video game and had not paid it. So the suspect allegedly stole the victim's father's bicycle. Brewer reported the bicycle stolen Sunday, and the suspect was arrested that day. Think about this kinda makes me mad. Is it really necessary to do that to someone. i dont think so. its very wrong, and really not fair.kids are stupidddd!

My article is about the mother being charged with the murder of her two children using a house fire. Her kids were 4-year-old Anthony and 3-year-old Alayna. She saved one child, the child thats father was living with her. The two that dies had different fathers. Im writing about this becasue its unbelievable what happens now. I dont understand how a women could not only murder her children, but burn them. Its scary that people like this are having kids. If they would have been taken from her they would have been able to grow up. Also she was drunk that night it happened. Police found her this way. Parents with young children cant be getting "shitfaced" while thier kids are there or even sleeping. Ive known alot of kids with alocohlic parents, including me, and its not fair to the kids. She was messed up and did something horrible.

On tuesday in Deerfield Beach, Florida five juvenile children sat in custody for setting a classmate on fire. The conflict all started when 15 year old Michael Brewer apparently did not pay the boys $40 for a video game. The boys then stole Brewers bike. He told someone they stole his bike so they dosed him with alcohol and purposefully set the boy a flame. Some of the boys were even said to have been laughing while Brewer was a blaze. Brewer suffered 2nd degree burns over 80% of his body and is said to be hospitalized for at least 5 months. I understand that money is important but i don't think it is fair or right that these kids thought it was funny to set a kid on fire. Its seems as if kids are getting into sketchy situations younger and younger. This isn't much different then what happened to the young man from western a month or so ago except he wasn't lucky enough to come out alive. This just proves that even in rural communities the city life is becoming out more. Kids think they are badass or cool for kicking the shit out of kids and doing or selling drugs. All we can do is be ready to protect yourself from the unexpected events that happen everyday.

This Friday a women in Huron Township, about 20 miles from Detroit, intentionally set her boyfriend's mobile home on fire. Inside, were her 3 children, aged 1, 3 and 4 years old. She fled with her one year old son, while killing the other 2 children. Very shortly after setting the house to fire, Mrs. Hinojosa was found in a hospital for drinking rubbing alcohol. This case just disgusts me. This women obviously shouldnt have been able to have children in the first place if she is stupid enough to drink rubbing alcohol, she is probably a raging alcoholic. On the other hand, she leaves 2 of her own children inside a burning home just to die. How can this women walk away knowing that her 2 children are burning to death right before her eyes? She has no feelings obviously, and I bet that her son that she saved has already been taken away from her.

The U.S. Senate Finance Committee just approved an $829 billion health-care overhaul measure today. If passed, it would extend health insurance coverage to about 29 million people. This plan would still leave 25 million Americans uninsured. I personally do not see why Congress is spending so much time on this health care plan. If they are going to spend over $800 billion on this plan, they should be able to cover a better amount of Americans. The government seems to continue spending and spending, which means that later on in life, our generation is going to have to pay for it, and the generations to come. I think they need to focus more on getting people employment before we worry about health care. Being able to afford food and a place to live seems a little bit more important to me than health care in the economic state we are in right now.

A mother was charged today for leaving her sons in her house, while it was burining down. Sharon Hinojosa was charged today with two counts of felony murder, two counts of second-degree murder and arson. she was also accused of leaving her children, to die. That she had from a previous relationship. She kept one child, that is from her current boyfriend. There is kids all over the world today that have no parents. Everyone should have a parent of some sort. There is no way any kid would survive in the world today, by themselves.

My current event is about the D.C. sniper. John Allen Muhammad shot and killed 10 people in the D.C. area. He also injured an additional three other people. This happened in October of 2002 over a three week period. He had an accomplice, Lee Boyd Malvo, who was only 17 at the time. Malvo was convicted of one shooting and sentenced to life in prison. After about 7 years, he was finally brought into custody. He is scheduled to be executed on November 10. I think this guy definitly deserves this. He killed ten innocent people for no reason. For seven years, he made people walk and live in fear in the D.C. area. I think more people that do things similar to this should be executed as well.

For my free blog i would like to talk about the three juveniles that were arrested Monday night after an incident, and two others arrested Tuesday. A fifteen year old boy from Deerfield Beach, Florida, in an apartment complex was inentionally burned. Michael Brewer suffered second-degree burns over 80 percent of his body. Young Micheal Brewer owed the suspect 40 dollars for a video game, so the suspect stole the victims dads bike. The next day neither of them went to school, the suspect showed up at Brewers apartment complex with friends and poured rubbing alcohol on him and lit him and fire with a lighter. A resident at the complex put out the fire with a fire exstinguisher and he jumped in the apartments pools. Brewer has severe burns and is expected to be hospitalized for five months. I cant believe anyone could ever do sumething so harsh to someone else. Its undescribable, how you could you have enough anger to intenionally set someone on fire?! Thats crazy, and to think he only 15 years old. We never know the shocking things that could happen to anyone over something as dumb as a video game or bike.

For my current event im going to talk about how health care bill clears hurdle. At the White House, Obama called the events "a critical milestone" toward remaking the nation's health care system. Health care is one the biggest issues in or country right now. It has been nearly nine months after the president pledged in his Inaugural Address to tackle health care, legislation to expand coverage to millions who lack it. Coverage would be paid for by cutting hundreds of billions of dollars from future Medicare payments to health care providers. I think health care is a big issue in our country today.

A current event, going on in the world right now, is about the War on Terror concerning the UK. Great Britain is preparing to send troops to Afganistan. Although, it has become widely unpopular in the UK, Prime Minister Gordon Brown, is preparing to send a group of about 500 troops to Afganistan. This will permantly be determined on Wednesday of this week. I can understand why Mr. Brown would want to send troops, but I feel it may be a bad mistake for his country. Considering that the majority of people living in the UK dissaprove of their involvement in the war. This war is going on currently with my country. How it wouldn't affect me is hard to say. Many people that I know, both family and friends, have been involved in this war. I would personally like to see an end to it as soon as possible, but respect the fact that these things take time and do not have high expectations of them changing drastically anytime soon, even though they should.

Today for my current event I want to blog about a four month old baby boy named Alex. He is 25 inches and weighs 17 pounds. Doctors don’t know why but baby Alex is in the 99th percentile for height and weight for babies his age. Rocky Mountain health plan is denying him health care. I think this is out of control because he is four months old; it’s not like his parents can control what he eats, he still breast feeds and he obviously has a condition. Being obese makes him at risk for denial of health coverage, but it’s not like his parents asked for him to be this way, it just happened and they should not be punished for this.

I had to reread this article 3 times to finally believe what they are saying. Sharon Hinojosa was a woman struggling through poverty. She wasn't able to afford her children anymore. Instead of just giving them to social services, she put them in the house and lit them on fire. Many of her friends think she is perfectly sane and took this to an extreme. This woman is sick and has a serious problem. If your willing to do that to your child no matter what, you shouldnt be a parent. She is being charged on two counts of murder and will spend life in prison when convicted.

Recently, it was found out that a large hospital had been exposing patients to 8-10 times the normal dose of radiation. CT machines use radiation to examine the body like a standard X-ray machine, but produce a 3D image that can be studied by doctors. The error was found after several patients started to complain that they were losing hair. The machine has been set like this for more than 18 months and has examined over 200 people. These people now have a very high chance of developing cancer due to this problem. So many things went wrong here that could have been prevented. I believe that the hospital should have been more careful about their use of CT scanners. The hospital should have checked the machine before they examined each patient. There could have also been a diagnostic by the FDA to make sure that the machine was being used properly. Finally, the CT machine manufacturer could have made sure that the machine setting could not be overwritten for more than one use. This is an important lesson for all of us, not just the hospital. We don't know how any hospital has their machine set. This goes back to the trust issue that we blogged about yesterday. We normally trust our doctors to do what is right, but sometimes things (like this) can break our trust. This relates to our community because there are many hospitals around us. Many more people than we actually know may have run into this problem. This also relates to me because people in my family have had scans like this done. I don't know if this kind of thing has affected them. I really hope it hasn't.

I think that everyone has heard that on Friday when a Sharon Hinojosa set fire to her boyfriend’s home killing two of her children. Now Hinojosa is charged with murder of her own children and arson. Hinojosa was arrested Saturday, a day after prosecutors say she intentionally set fire to her boyfriend’s Huron Township trailer home. The 29-year-old Hinojosa escaped the fire. Her 1-year-old son also escaped but neighbors and fire fighters were unable to save the other two: 4-year-old Anthony Hinojosa and 3-year-old Alayna Hinojosa.
I don’t understand why anyone would set fire to a house with their family inside. I would think that any mother would try to run into the fire and get all of her children out of a burning building. I also think that something must have been wrong with her to let her children be in harms way. What could have driven her to kill her children? Wouldn’t it have been easier to contact social services and give up custody then have them burned to death? I am outraged and confused. How could anybody done this to their own children. She is either insane or a monster.

Today I am going to do my current event on the nobel peace prize. President Obama is being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Many question why Obama is being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He has not done anything worth while, I think, to earn it. Now I am sure there are things he may have done that I don't know about, which in that case maybe he should have won it. The Norwegian committee is standing by their decesion of giving Obama the nobel peace prize, even though they are taking a lot of fire from people. I don't think he should have won this prize so early into his presidency. I think it might give some people the wrong idea.

For my free blog I am writing about how there is a n increase in military recruitment. Ther has been a significant increase in military recruitment because of the tough economy. Many men and women are resorting to the military because they are being layed off or having a tough time finding a job. People have goone to the recruitment stations because the military is always hirering. This is a biter sweet opportunity. It is biter sweet because everyone wins and everyone losses. I say this because people that need a job can get one and the military always need soldiers. The downside is that the government is only going to go deeper into debt because they spend between $9,000 and $10,000 and each new recruit. The Army spends about $22,000 per recruit.

In Deerfield Florida a 15 year old juvenile set a 15 year old on fire and laughed about it. The 15 year Michael Brewer suffered second degree burns on 80% of his body. Brewer owed some kid at his school $40 for a video game. But brewer did not pay so the kid decided to take it into his own hands. He lit Michael Brewer on fire by pouring rubbing alcohol all over him and catching him on fire. Michael had to get put out with a fire extinguisher and also had to jump into the local pool where he was at. This was a horrible crime and the bad thing is that the kids that lit Cory Brewer laughed about do the whole thing.

Today I read "Police: Juveniles laughed after setting 15-year-old on fire" on CNN. We all know that kids can be cruel. However, I was shocked when I read this story. Some juveniles set their 15 year old classmate on fire. He is covered in 3rd degree burns. This is scary because this is a form of bullying. This should remind us that bullying is still out there. It's still damaging both physical and mental.

Microsoft has issued a record number of security patches Tuesday during there regular check up. Most of these patches are designated as critical. These fixes are for mostly new software like vista etc. The threats are mostly from the internet where security breaks may have let codes from rigged sites in. These hacked codes are known as viruses. The most security flaws needing to be fixed was back in June, where they needed 31. I think this is sad. You pay for protection and still they can't protect you. Microsoft needs to work out it's problems or more people will just get mad. I know I have had viruses on my computer even with there program symtec.

For my current event i want to blog about the recent outbread of H1N1. so far 76 americans have died. Im not saying that people should start freaking out, but it is scary. The symptoms usually show up 3 days to a week before the virus could take a life. That leaves very little time to get to a doctor, and the symptoms arent sever enough to make someone really need to go to a hospital. I think that kids need to be a little more cautious by doing simple things like washing their hands more. this is relevant to us because we could be exposed tothe virus. And as teenagers, we dont wash our hands or cover our mouths as much as we should. :)

For my current event i found an article about a 15 year old boy who was set on fire the other day. The boy had called the cops on another boy who was trying to steal his fathers 500 dollar bike. The boy decided not to go to his classes that day, and instead went to a pool. While he was sitting by the swimming pool, rubbing alchohol was splashed on him and he was set on fire. He quickly ripped off his shirt and jumped in the pool. But he was still burned over 65% of his body. As of right now, he is at a high risk of infection and organ failure. The kids who were involved were both 15 and 13. Three of them were charged with aggravated battery and the other with attempted second-degree murder because authorities say he flicked the lighter. I find it very crazy that little kids can do stuff like this. It just shows how bad our younger society is getting. they're is way to much violence on tv and video games.
