Day 21

In Ancient Greece, Aristotle argued that a citizen did not just belong to himself or herself, but to the state. Using this idea as a background, do you think that all citizens (male and female) in the United States should be required to serve two years in the armed forces after graduating High School? Why or why not? For which ever side you choose, please explain the pros and cons to your decision. Explain how this would make you personally feel or how the community would benefit or feel a deficit of your decision.

I think that making someone serve in the army, who does not want to serve in the army, is pointless when ther is no need. This is why we have the draft. If for whatever reason we do need people to serve in order to protect their country, then they are there. But why make someone do something they dont want to do unless you have to. That is just a waste of money and resources. By not forcing people, you save money resources and time. On the other hand, if there is a reason for the draft to be enacted, than those people wont be trained and you will have to train them first. However, typically in the United States we do not have to use the draft. Usually, there are enough people who already want to go into the military that it is just not necessary. I suppoose my opinion would positively impact the community. Those who do not want to serve, do not have to unless there is a need. Those who do want to, well go find a recruiter.

If someone is forced into the army, who does not want to be in the army, they will probably not try hard to accomplish anything and just be a nuisance to everyone in the army. They won't try as hard as if they were doing something they enjoyed. I think this rule would be pointless. In my opinion, it would weaken the army. A strong army would be composed of people who want to fight for their country, they will enjoy doing what they are doing in the army because they chose to join. Not being able to chose whether or not to join the army is by definition, not the American way.

A lot of things have changed since Aristoles's time in ancient Greece. Now, people can make their own choices. I think that all citizens (male and female) should not have to be required to serve two years in the armed forces after graduating High School. My reasoning behind this is, that I think a person should have the right to choose to go into the armed forces, and not be forced to join. Not everyone wants to join the military, some people want to pursue other things in life. A pro to my decision is that people have the choice between joining or not. Also, by letting people choose they would most likely respect the United States more. A con to my decison might be that, less people would want to join the armed forces, leaving our military with less volunteers, which would hurt our chances of winning wars and battles. I would personally feel happy that citizens didn't have to serve two years in the armed forces. This would show freedom that the United States is giving its citizens. If sons and daughters were forced to serve in the armed forces for two years, many of their parents would be worried about their saftey. I think that the community would appreciate the freedom they are being given and would like the decison that was made. In conclusion, I feel that the citizens of United States should not be required to serve two years in the armed forces after High School.

The build of the united states is based on not only jobs but our protection as well. If you are to look at all the things us americans have and are able to do and look at other countries you can deffinitly tell that there are some countries that wither are jelous or just dislike us. After experiencing all of the damage that other countries are willing to do in order to try in out do us or take over us is excessive. With all these dangers and problems aroud us, we know that a heavily and strong protection agency is needed, tjis is were the army comes in.

Back then men were all forced into the army and still are today in some countries. Here in america we dont pressure and make anybody go into the army but in some american minds, that falls under the success list. Many people feal that violance is the answer and we all must be in the army.

Lets say there is to be a rule such as the one gavin on this blog, were all people in the US shall be in the military of somesort for atleast two years. Personally i disagree with this because protection does make a portion of the US but i feel the economy is alsoa big thing. If we are to let other countries get to our head and forget about the country it self, that is when all hell brakes loose and the economy falls apart.

Although i feel uncomfortable with this, like every event it has not only its cons but some pros. Some of the pros or pluses being that all men and women are serving for there country witch will take a helping hand from each individual. Another being that all men and women will get sronger not only physcaly but mentally, making our nation a mature well supported nateion.

Some of the cons that make it up are things such as people not being physicaly built or fit for it and making it unfair and almost like giving one life away. Another minus to this is like i said before the forgettness of our overall nation. We cant just sit there and worry about only our war play and forget to keep a smart nation as well together.

These are my beliefs on the arguments by Aristotle in ancient greece about the nation having apart of each citizen as well besides themselves.

Personaly I don't think that the goverment should make everyone (males and females) go into the military for two years after they graduate high school. I think that people should be able to do basically whatever they want with there life. I also believe that if they aren't in mayjor need for people to join the army, I don't think anyone should be forced to. A pro is that we wouldn't be wasting time and money on people who wouldn't want to be in the military. Another pro would bethat less people would be getting killedif there weren't as many people in the military. A con would be that less work would get done with less people in the military. I would feel really angry if my country made me join the militarty for two years after high school, those are supposed to be the best years of your life and I feel like they would be wasted. Obvoiusly they community would benifit if more people would join the military because there would be mroe protectionfor them. I personally don't think anyone should be forced into the military for two years after high school.

I think that you shouldnt have to serve in the army for 2 years after highschool. If you want to then go for it but you should have to be forced to. I think this because then some people wouldnt get to live out their dreams. The Only pro to being in the army is there will be alot of people to help our country. However there are alot of cons, for one you wouldnt be able to be with your family. You wouldnt go to college or anything. You would be missing out on alot of things in your life. I would want to live out my dreams and not go into the army. The community would probably lke it better if their kids that are so young didnt go into the army straight after highschool.

No, I don't think (male/female) citizens should be forced to serve in the armed service after they get out of high school. I don't think a person should be required to join the armed services right after high school for several reasons: A person just graduating is still very young and not experienced in making life threateing decisions. War is very serious and if you have a deluge of young people all going into the armed service at the same time there will be a shortage of training. Also, I don't feel the government has the right to decide that you have to put your life on the line; this is a personal decision and should be well thought out. Some of the con's of being required to serve in the armed service: The government already does not have enough equipment for our armed services, therefore, there will be even less equipment availabe. The training would not be as efficient because you have more people to train. There will be more injuries/disabilities for the government to have to provide benefits for. Pro's: The United States would have a very large armed service. More people would receive specialized training. People would benefit for educational benefits that are in the armed service. Unemployment would be smaller because this group of people would not need jobs. The community would benefit in a postive way with my decision not to require male/females graduating having to serve 2 years in the armed service. There would be less people within a community having to bury a loved one. My decision would allow young high school graduates to continue their education and be able to contribute to society instead of putting off their education for two years. When people are not forced into having to perform a duty there is less animosity between the people forcing a certain situation on a group of people.

I think that making everyone serve in the army after high school would not be a good idea. Some people are physically fit or okay for that kind of job. That’s why we should have the choice to do it or not. My choice is good because if you aren’t able to serve in the army you don't have to. Or if you don't think you're ready for that type of job you don't have to. The people that do serve in the army seem to get a lot out of it though, and by not serving you're not getting what they get. I personally would be very upset. Because I would not want to leave my family risk my life for something I was forced to do. People should be able to choose what they want to do. Other people who serve or served in the army might have a different opinion because they have been through all of that, and they may think it’s a very good learning experience.

I think that everyone should be required to join the armed forces for two years, but not neessarily after High School. Everyone in the United States, regardless of religion, should want to fight for this wonderful country. It would probably be ideal to join the armed forces after college, due to the fact that you can learn more in the arme forces. Most people only focus on the armed forces as fighting wars, but they rarely ever think about who is behind the soldiers on the front lines. If a person joins the armed forces they can learn about new technology and weapons instead of fighting on the front lines. A pro to joining the armed forces is that people learn how to act in a brotherhood. If everyone can learn to act as a whole and accept people for who they are then we could pull through these hard times. Another pro is the fact that when someone goes into the armed forces they become more caring, more respectful, and smarter even. The community would definitely benefit if everyone went into the armed forces and then kept what they had learned close. People would be able to trust others more. People would become more charitable. If that happened would you feel safer if everyone acted as if we were all one people? I would like to think I would.

I know my opinion will not be liked by many people but i honestly believe that everybody in America should be in the military for at least 2 years. Last year my brother enlisted in the military and i watched him go into boot camp as a self centered little prick, after boot camp though he was a changed person. While he was there he told me that he learned how to trust people and he also learned how to take pride in what he does. If i didnt see how my brother changed i would choose no to the military for everyone but after seeing what he has become i would want everyone to join because it teaches you many life long lessons. Some of the pros of having everyone in the military is that our nation will be able to be defended 24/7 not just by current members in the military but by the people who have already experienced a military lifestyle. Another pro is that people can live life without much worry because they already have the training needed to defend themselves. Though when theres something good there is always something bad that comes along with the good thing. If everybody in America was in the military atleast 2 years then there might be the people who get really into the military and might take what they have learned and use it for bad instead of good. Personally i would love to see everybody join the military because it changes your perspective on life and it gives people an experience of a lifetime.

I don't think that everyone should have to be in the military. I think you should have a choice between college or the military. I think part of belonging to the state means to use yourself to benefit the state to you best capability. Go to college, get your degree and help to continue the growth of your state. Or go into the military and fight for your countries survival. we need both parts and both are equally important. We need our doctors our teachers, police officers, officials ect. but we need the people that are willing to risk their lives and fight to keep the state alive. honestly the only con i can come up with is that more people will have to leave there families and friends behind to go into war. I dont see many flaws in this solution. It keeps people from being a detriment in our society. Personally i feel fine about this solution. The government wouldn't be forcing anyone into war, everyone would have a choice in what they would want to do. In the community i think there might be more people suffering from friends or family off in the war and that is a disadvantage, but overall i feel things would be relatively the same.

Should a citizen serve 2 years in the armed forces after high school? I think maybey yes because we live inthis country,Its ours we should support it right? altho some people may be un cabable of do this so maybe this should not be a requirement but it should definantly be a choice, which it is, but if we were foreced to go we would probly have fewer people in the united states just like what happenned to sparta, but if your good at military stuff you should definantly serve for your country

I think that forcing somebody into the army is not a good idea. I think that if we were in the middle of a war and needed people, and people were not stepping up for the job, then there might be a need for a draft. The reason i think this is because if you send someone into the army who really does not want to be there they wont try. They will screw around and not do there job, and someone or multiple people could potenially get killed. Now if we ever actually need to use the draft that means that things are very bad in the location of the war. If things are bad enough then I feed anybody who is drafted will do their job. I feel this way because I think that job will be nescessary for their survival. I know that if my life rested upon whether or not I did a specific job, I would do that job

I do not think that people should be required to serve two years in the armed forces. This is because, just like anything else in todays society, if you force someone to go into the army, they will not want to and therefore won't do much or give much effort anyways. Another reason I don't agree is because there are other roles that need to be filled in society. If everyone goes into the army, we will have no one to specialize in these roles. However, a good reason for having it might be that everyone will be drilled and we will have a more disciplined society. Therefore, I think if u want to join you can, whether it be becasue they pay for college or whatever. However, if you do not want to, then it is your choice and you can lead whatever life you want to live.

I dont think that all citizens should be forced to serve in the military. After highschool, many people want to go to college and start their life. Forcing people into the military would be pointless. The idea of people belonging to the state and not just themselves makes sense. If people were like this nowadays, everyone would be more loyal. In todays world, we aren't raised in military school and trained to kill throughout our whole childhood. Back then, they didn't know of any other way. I think forcing people into the military would have a negative impact on the community.

Things have changed since Aristotle's time. People can have choices. I think that being forced into the armed forces would'nt do our country any good, because without the right determination, bravery, and courage, the United States army would fall. The people who would'nt want to be in the army would have to put up with it even if they don't want to, and that puts a negative toward going out and fighting for our country. If your head or heart isn't in the game, then you should'nt have to play it. If I were forced to join the military, I would be very scared. I have no idea how the system of the army works or what to expect. I would worry that everyday might possibly be my last. After high school is where your life is soposed to start and if people are forced into a life that they don't want then it effects them and others around them majorly.

I think that no one should have to be forced to do anything they dont want to. The government doesnt have the right to make us go into the army. Their is a draft, but that doesnt mean we have to go into the army after High School. The draft is just used when needed. Some people just arent suited for the army. So, forcing them in the army wouldnt help anyone. If we were forced to do so, the only good thing about it would be that our army would be very strong. Other than that I dont think their is many pros about be forced into the army. I personally would be happy that we didnt have to go into the army.

No i do not think that every citizin should be required to serve at least two years in the armed forces. i dont think we should have to be well i dont even agree with war, we go to far with the whole war thing. What the point us laying down our lives for a country we might not believe is doing the right thing, like going to war. I think that if we were to be required we would have more riets and more protest agianst it. A couple years back it was required that all men must go in to the armred forces we know this as the draft. When this was going on many people started protesting agianst war because people were loosing their loved one, it made a lot of people not like the U.S government, i think that letting people make their own dicisions creats every one calm about the wars going, and lets people know that the government doesnt own them.

I believe that you should not make people enroll in the army if they don’t want to go. It will not get the army anywhere because the people that don’t want to go will probably not try as had to protect their country as the ones that really do want to be in the army. I kinda think that it could weaken the army because the people that want to be in the army could get upset with the people who slack and don’t care. You also waste time and resources and money. The people that don’t want to be there can be off doing something else for them or their country. Some cons of not enrolling them would be to save money time and resources. To have more jobs filled and less people killed. I think not enrolling the people that don’t want to be enrolled will make a better and stronger army. With people that will try to protect their country.

Well, if I was responding to this question from my point of view, then my answer would be no. But, since I am using Aristotle's idea as a background, then I would say yes; every citizen should be required to serve two years in the armed forces after graduating High School. They need to serve their country because they all live in it, belong to it, and use it, so they all need to serve their duty in protecting it. The pro to this would be that we would never be short on numbers in our military enrollment. A con to this is that many young people would probably die, and people would be forced into doing something they might not want to do. Personally, as I already said, I dont agree with this viewpoint. I think it would cause a lot of people to riot against the government, and that the community would actually feel a deficit from this. If everyone knew that they HAD to go into the military right after high school, then they feel trapped their whole life. They have nothing to do while they are young, they should be free and aloud to choose their own destiny after high school.

I disagree with the idea of men and women having to serve two years in the armed forces. For one, if the person is against the idea of the military they could become a weakness to our country. Soldiers need to be focused and ready for anything that comes their way. If someone's personality doesn't fit that trait, then things could go horribly wrong. For the pro side of this argument it could also give us more trained personel in the field. Whenever a enemy decided to attack, we would have a greater chance for victory than defeat. This would make me personally feel like my freedom was being ripped away. It should be a personal choice, instead of a law.

I think that forced service in the army should not be required. It should be a citizens choice whether or not they want to join the army. People could be opposed to the war, or to violence in general. Some may have plans that service in the army would interrupt. Many people want to go to a four-year college right away, and being in the army would interrupt that goal. Having the freedom to choose to be in the army is positive because those who are in the army want to be there, and will give their all. I can see why people whould want to have a forced service, because there would be many soldiers and it shows patriotism, but I think that this is not up for the country's choice. The state does not know what is best for each person, or the will of each person, so a decision like this should be left to each individual. If I was personally required to join the army, I would be very nervous, but I would also have pride in myself for defending my country. I have made the personal decision that the army is not for me, but I have great respect for those who do choose this path. The community would benefit because I would be protecting them and their country. I think those who are close to me would feel a deficit because of my absence, but my absence would not effect the community as a whole if every person out of college went into the army, because it would be expected of me.

I think it would be stupid, everyone that wouldn't want to join would make up reasons not to pass high school. Why make everyone join when we have enough people that already want to do it. And our army would suck because people would just be doing whatever. A pro to my decision is by letting people decide if they want to join or not will make our army stronger. Another pro would be that a voulnteer army would be better then a forced army. A con to my decision is in a forced army people aren't going to do whats need to defend the country properly. I personally think it would be one of the dumbest things The United States could do. If i had to go into the army because it was required I wouldn't be very willing to fight for our country.

Back in Ancient Greece it might have been a good idea to have all citizens have to serve in the army for a certain amount of years. You can go to college to become basically anything you want, and so that's why I think people should be able to choose. And because its their life, the government shouldn't be able to force you into something you don't want to do. The pros to this decision is that people can choose what they want to do out of high school and they will enjoy doing it. Another pro is that in a community with people doing jobs they want, there will be a variety of places to go, such as doctors, restaurants etc. A con could be that not enough people would join the army and they would have to do the draft. I think that everyone would benefit from people being able to make their own choices. Everyone would be happier knowing that they are free to choose. If responding to this question from Aristole's point of view, then yes, everyone should have to serve two years in the armed forces after graduating highschool. This is because they belong to their country, live there, use the supplies, therefor they should have to fight for it as well. But, from my point of view it is not right for everyone to have to serve in the miliary after high school. Each person should be able to choose what they want to do. Serving in the military is a hard thing, so peoplewho want to do it should be proud of themselves and fight for what they believe in. I don't think forcing people to fight in the army when they are against it will help. It may keep our military strong with a lot of people, but if that not what you wanna do you can die doing something that youdidnt even have a choice in. I ould be upset if i found out i had no choice but to go into the armed forces after highschool, it would make me not even want to try, because i know i already have my life set out for me. I dont think this would benefit people, unless it was your choice and your fighting because you want to. Overall, fighting in the militaryis a great thing, but i dont think its right for everyone, so all people shouldnt be forced to join after highschool.

I think making everyone join the armed foces after graduating high school is a great idea. The military teaches self dicipline wich everyone needs to learn, it also builds character. After joining the armed forces and completing your to years in the servive you will feel proud of servering your country. After joining the marines you live by a certain CODE. You respect the code, you live by the code if you dont follow the code people die, your "brothers" die. I think it would be a great experince for every one to sever in the military. Doesn't everyone want to be a hero? The military is there to protect the citizens of the United States and everyone inside. In conclusion, I feel that the citizens of United States should be required to serve two years in the armed forces after High School, I know i will.

I think that times have changes since Aristotle was around. The ideas behind it are good but I think individuals should have freedom. I do not believe that citizens should be required to serve 2 years in the armed forces after High School. Some people wouldn't do well and just don't have what it takes. The pros of this are that people can pursue what they want to do and go with their dreams. If they went into the military, that changes things. People have a right to their freedom and I don't think that the government should have that kind of power. The cons of this are that the country wouldn't benefit but some people will be in the military anyway. I would be very upset if I was being forced into it. I mean I love our country and everything but I don't think I have all the qualities that it takes to defend it. I guess the community would feel a deficit from my decision but also a benefit too. If I was in the armed forces I'd probably screw things up anyway so me not being there is a good thing.

I don't think you should have to unless the nation is in threat needing a draft. I do think after high school citizens need to be active by doing jury duty, service, politics, etc but at there choice. Service may not be a good thing because some people just are not made for it. Having to spend time in a strict environment might mentaly harm weeker folks in our society. Service also relys on strong trust bonds that some people may not form. If I was out on duty and I could not trust a squad member it would be very scary. What would happen when bullets fly? Would they just flee and leave others for dead? I know I would not want that. Those are major cons for forced service. This forced service may also lead to weaker forces on the lines if there was a war. The only potentialy good thing out of it is that it teaches people disaplin. This in the long run may build a stronger society.

Steve Snapp said...

Using the background i would express that it is your choice to serve or not. A democracy is the right of the people to choose whether or not they want to join the military. If you were forced to serve there would be issues with the commitment to serve. The fact that you would need to serve after high-school would also interfere. Worrying about in-listing after high school could make people mad, in the fact that they probably want to go to college and make a better life for themselves. Serving you country doesn't need to consist of serving in the military. There are many other thing you can do to support your city-state of country.

The famous philisopher, Aristotle argued that a citizen did not just belong to himself or herself, but to the state as a whole. To me, he had it right. I think that people should be required to defend their country for two years after highschool, especially in America today. First of all, we are at war, and even if the people of this country dont agree with it, it is their duity to this country to defend her. This country is at war, an it should be our top prieorty to protect it. On the other hand, we could let this country fall, give up all of our freedoms that we take for granted and end up in a place where we cant even bad mouth our leader without the threat of death. Second of all, we take everything that we get by living in America by anvantage to a massive extent. We have become so arragont over time and have begun to think that as humans the rights and freedoms that we have here in America HAVE to be given to us. Well they dont. We are lucky enough that we had some smart guys leading this country when it all started. People take everything they have for granted, and then they go and complain that the country that is giving everything to them is asking them fight in a war so that they can continue to enjoy those rights. We arent entitled to the rights we have as humans, but rather as Americans. We need to start showing our appriecation for that and our willingness to fight for and defend it.

I think that the only way forcing someone into the army is right is if it is absolutly needed. I do not think America should be allowed to force men and women into the forces for 2 years. Especially right out of highschool when they are working to go far in life and so young. Some pro's of being in the forces is the consistent income so young. If saved right it can be good help in starting your life. Also you would feel important and of good use. The cons would be being forced altimetly. If your forced into someting its more miserable and you hate it. Also being forced in the lifestyle of being a soldier. If your not the right person, you just wont survive. You need to be mentally and physically ready to join the forces. My thoughts I would think are what most of the country would think. Im not saying ALL though, and im not saying im right. I don't know what others think or what thier opinion is, but I know being forced in the army would really suck!

No I personally do not think that men and women should be forced to enlist in the armies. I think that serving in the military is a lifestyle that some do not want to choose to live. As citizens we do have rights, however I believe if a draft was needed that would be okay. If our country needed help I would fully support people being required to serve. The pro's of this decision would obviously be not risking your life. A negative is that you do not get the chance to serve and honor you country in a military way. Not being able to choose whether or whether not you serve in the army would be a lack of rights.

Many things have changes since Aristotle, people gained many rights and freedoms. I do not think that people today should be forced to serve two years in the armed forces’ think those who defend our country are well respected by those who choose not to enlist in the armed forces. Some pros of my decision are by having the freedom of that choice makes the United States more respected. A con of not being forced into the armed forces is that, if people are not obligated and the wars continue then there might not be enough troops left to fight. Finally, this might be a pro or con but people that serve in our war now get awesome health and educational benefits. In a perfect world, everyone would be entitled to those same benefits, but realistically the cost would be too much. The way it is now people can make the decision to serve or not makes everyone feel willing to make the sacrifice. If you were forced many would not give a full commitment and that could be dangerous.

I think that everyone in the United States of America should be forced to serve at least 2 years of military service. I think this because if more people join the forces then more people will be more patriotic and have stronger feelings for there country. Also if served right after high school the term only the strong survive will be a reality. It would also cut down on the competition for jobs because the ones who have made it alive from the forces will be able to obtain jobs easier. It would also make the youth in the community more disciplined. The negatives to having this would be losing more young american lives. As well as more hurt an injured veterans rooming around. I hope this will not happen but i can see many positive and negative ways it could effect the U.S.

Aristotle made his people think that it was their job to belong to the state rather than themselves. In the United States, we are free to think and do what we please, with a restriction. So, I think that it wouldn’t be fair or right to make males and females join the army for two years after they graduate High School. During the time period of Aristotle, the different job offerings were greatly less then today’s. People should have the right to go off after High School, to collage, and gain knowledge of their future career. Which, student knowledge would reflect the success of future businesses in the United States. Going into the army could ruin their chances of doing as they please along with their success for the United States through businesses. Even though this would not be a good plan, it could help our country with dangerous situations and knowing what to do in serious conditions. Personally, I wouldn’t like going into that army after high school. I can’t even deal with a tornado, maybe one hundred miles from my house, let alone a war. The community wouldn’t do any worse with me not being in the army because I would die within seconds. My ability to be in dangerous circumstances is a joke. All in all, putting people into the army right after High School would not be a fine choice.

I do not think that everybody should have to serve two years in the army. One reason is that the people help this country and its not just the government, people pay taxes to help his country. Well, i thnk that the citizins of the united states of amerca should not have to do this. The people of the country get to make their own decisions. Thats why their is the draft, if we dont have enough soldiers then lets stop going to war so much.

I do not think that every ameriican should have to serve 2 years in the army. I mean it would make our country reallynstronge but not everyone is cut out for the army. We could send in Rosie Odonald and get killed. She can't fight. We would all be in good shape and make our country physicly stonge but then our death rate would go way up. Not going like we are, we can get a good education and do something with it. If u don't go to college and go right to the army u don't get an education. If u go to college then u go to the army u get killed and all that time at college was wasted. I would go to college for like military strategy and stuff so I don't get killed in 2 seconds.

In my opinion, I don't believe that both men and women should have to serve in the army for two years after high school, if they do not wish to. The reason why I believe this is because, normally when someone is forced into doing something they don't want to they are unhappy, and become a stick in the mud, but the main reason is they wouldn't do anything at all. They would just fool around, cause lots of trouble, be a disruption, and a annoyance to the rest of the army members who are there, because they want to be there. Like all things in life, being put into the army for two years after high school has it's pros and cons. As for the pros, you won't have to leave your family, friends, and loved ones for two years. You'll be able to stay in contact with them and see them on a regular basis, rather than not knowing when you'll see them or hear from them next. Now for the cons, if there were any reason for a draft, the people they have chosen to enter the army will be unprepared, and certainly not ready to handle what they have coming. Also there may not be enough be whom enter the army on their own, so they might have to call for a draft. Personally, I would be very satisfied if they didn't sent teenagers who just graduated from high school into the army for two years. That may have been the way to go back in time of ancient Greece, but times have changed. How our community would benefit from this is that United States will have proven that what we say we believe in is true. Having our own freedom is very big in the US. Being forced into the army is going against our freedom. Also, this will save our community from future issues with being forced into the army. I believe that if you do not wish to enter the army, you shouldn't have to. i believe this for both men and women.

I really dont think its fair to people when they are being forced to go in the military if they dont want to. It really point less to make someone go who doesn't want to be there in the first place. People who want to do it can do it. if they don't force people into it we will most likely save a lot of money and stuff for the military. If someone is forced they most likely wont work as hard as the people who really want to be there. Usually enough people sign to so we dont have to use the draft system. we all have rights, we should be able to pick if we want to join or not.

I belive that all students after high school should serve two years in the armed forces. Now I think this because some people do not give back to their country, and i beleive that this is one way for them to give back. the pros of this are obvious that people give back to the government, and people. But besides that this forced enrollment will establish a new sense of pride and self confidence back into americans. Now the cons are that if a person does not want to be enrolled in the army he can litterally slack off and not do it. Also we will have large amounts of people leaving the U.S. to get away from forced enrollment, and that sure isnt giving back to the government. But all in all the pros out weigh the cons because there are plenty of americans wanting to serve in the U.S. army.

I believe that both male and female should be required to serve in the arms forces after high school. I agree with Aristotle that we belong to our state also. One pro of this decision is our communities and homes would be more structered. We would learn to make our beds and how follow orders. Everybody would grow up to be brats if they had to serve in the army. Another pro is that we would being serving our countries and people should get joy out of that. A con would be that some people aren't physically fit to serve in the armed forces. Also most would probably argue that it's a violation of our freedom. Personally I wouldn't want to join the armed forces. It would scare me a lot and I don't like to go out of my box. But I would still do it happily.

I believe that all citizens in the United States should not be required to serve in the military after they graduate high school. The battlefield is a scary place for many people. Why should anybody be forced to go to a place that they don't want to against their will. There are many people that know what they want to do when they get older. If these people are forced to join the military, then some of their chances to do what they want to do will go away. On the flip-side however, the military teaches discipline, teaches people to think on their toes, and to build strong relationships. These are some unwritten requirements that will help people succeed in life. I still however believe that under all circumstances people should have a right to choose what they want to do in life.

I do not think all citizens should be required to serve in the military for two years. If you are not in the military for the right reason, it will make our military weaker. Some pros of this would be that, the people would be happier. I wouldnt like to be in the army and i would feel safer and happier not in it. I think that some cons would be that we arent getting the sense of loyalty. I believe that serving in the army is an honor. Also, it may make the USA more powerful if we had a larger and more powerful economy. Personally its a relief that we arent forced to be in the army, im not ready to ace that fear of battle. I tihnk their are many people in my community that believe the same. However, some think that everyoune should be in the army to support their country. Personally i believe that you can represent our country in other honorable ways.

I do not think that people should have to serve two years in the military after they graduate highschool. I think this because, there would be as many employees working because most of them would be killed in battle. Education levels would drop becuase students motivation would decrease because they would be forced to serve in the military. Pros to my decision are that there is still high education and more jobs. Cons to my decision would be that there would be less people in the armed forces, or enlisting becuase they're wouldnt be people being forced in. Based off of my decision, it would make me feel very good, and proud. This is because it would show who the most patriotic people are, by letting them enlist on their own and now being forced into the military. The community would greatly benefit from my decision, because they wouldnt have to worry about leaving their familiy for two years after they graduate, and having to worry about loosing their lives in battle.

I dont think americans should have to be forced into the military after high school. If these citizens were required to, it would affect their next step for their future. If someone wanted to go to college but had to serve two years, that would be two years lost. The pros are you get to look foward to the next stage in your life. You also wouldnt have to be forced to go into the armed forces and do something you dont want to. Cons to not being required to serve in the armed forces for two years are that the U.S. would look like a scared nation whose people care more about themselves rather than their nation. Other Nations people bleed their countries pride, and would risk their lives to defend their homeland. I would personally feel guilty for letting others volunteer themselves to fight for my country while I sit back and do nothing.

I dont think that all us citizens should be required to join the military. I think that as a democracy and our freedom we shouldnt have too. After all it was our founding fathers dream to have this freedom of choice. IT just doesnt seem right to force our citizens to do something. Like i said i think the pros of this would be the obvious freedom of choice of america. With this their our obvious cons, such as having a smaller army. I think their is less intrest nowadays in the army then their use too. Also, i think we would be a stronger nation, maybe more disciplined if everyone had to join. Personally, i think the military would suck but would definatly be a life changing expierence. I think it would do be a lot of good.

I believe that the United states should not make males and females required to serve in the militry for 2 years after high school. I feel that way because some people are too dam lazy or are pot heads and I wouldn't want them seving with me. I wouldn't want them serving with me because I wouldn't be able to trust them with my life. Also if you force people to do something that they don't want to do they will not put forth any effort. I think the only time that people should be required to join the military is whenn there is a extremly high demand for soldiers, in that case I feel that they should just use the draft instead. The best way to get soldiers is to just promote the military like they do now, it has been working since American was created. The only pro of a manditory 2 year servive in the military would be that everyone could take pride in their country because they helped preserved the American way of life.

Requiring that someone serve in the army for 2 years is wrong because it takes away our freedoms. Forcing a person to do something, makes that person hate what they are be forced to do. As opposed to, enlisting by choice. Having the choise the serve or not, lets people that truly care about the country, take real pride in what they do. By force, people arent going to care as much about what they do; its like giving someone the choice to care or not. I, personally, would hate to be forced to serve in the army for 2 years. I have my own beliefs, and feelings about this country, and no one would want me expressing them through serving in the army, thats for sure. Honestly, I believe that not requiring people to serve is a huge benefit. It safes money, resources and time. Forcing people to serve, wastes money on boot camps, and training, when this country has more things to worry about. It just seems like a waste of time to me.

I do not believe that a citizen in the United States should be required to serve two years in the armed forces after graduating High School. People should have the right to make this choice themselves. Joining armed forces put a person's life on the line. I do not understand why people would automaticly want to serve no matter what, even if they don't know why they are fighting. It baffles me how people can kill another with out a cause, or even without a just cause at that. The cons are that the country has no way of defending themselves in the case that we are under attack. I don't think we should ever get into a situation where another country woud attack us. People should be wiser now. There is no more need for pointless wars and such. If no country had a military then they would have nothing to fight each other with. However, this is just ideals and not reality. In reality I do not believe this would ever happen. People always find something to fight about, in the end. I would personaly be happy with the decision of not being forced to serve, or for anyone to serve at all, but this is just something that will never happen in my lifetime.

I think that making someone serve in the army who does not want to serve is a good idea. I support this decision because once someone goes into the Military they come out stronger, Mentally and Physically. If people did not serve our country, we would have mass chaos all over the world and none of us would survive. The world without a military system would be very dangerous. This is money well spent and also people become a better person after they have seen the wars in a perspective. Typically in the United States we do not use the draft because people are strong enough to get the courage up to fight for their lives. One bad thing about making someone serve in the army is that they have a very good chance that they will be put straight into combat. If they are put straight into combat then they will be at more risk to die then another person who is just a bystander. If you look at all of the great heroes of the Greek times, Achilles, Paris, Hector, Agamemnon. I doubt that they all were just like no i dont want to serve in the army. They were probably thinking heck yes! Let's go fight for our nation and have our names be remembered.

I feel that none of the citizens of the U.S. should have to serve in the military. We are a big country and we don’t have to a draft because we are not in a large war and we have enough volunteers. The pros of not going in to the military after high school is that it lets you get an early start on your career or college. There would be lower taxes because the government would not have to buy that many supplies for military personal. The con is if kids after high school did not serve in the military the U.S. military would be weaker. I feel that kids coming out of high school should not have to go into the military, it should be a choice if you want to go into the military or not.

I do not beleive you should be forced to serve 2 years in the military after high scool whether you are male or female. The government should not be able to force someone to do something they don't want to. When you force someone to join the military they may not be in good physical condition to join. If you orce people to join you are also asking them to risk their lives if they get deployed. Some of the pros of of not being forced to join the military are not being forced to do something you want. Another would be you do not have to risk your life. Some cons are you do not get free college. I would probably have joined the military no matter what the law was. It would give you a chance to show pride for your country.

In my opinion the United States should not require people to serve 2 years in the armed forces after graduating high school. First of all, not everyone is cut out for the army both physically and mentally. Of course theyd have training, but would you really want someone like...say Paris Hilton defending our country? That sounds like a horrible idea. Also, in this country we have freedom, its what we pride ourselves on, so why take some of that away? Lastly, we need more that just soldiers to make this country work. We need doctors, lawyers, and even garbage men. People should get to choose what they want to do based on whats best for them, not what the country decides. Of course, for some people its a really good option. As of right now you get your school paid for while you serve. But, even so, its not for everyone. Overall, i think it would not be beneficial to this country to have a manditory service of 2 years in the military after high school graduation.

I do not believe that anyone should be required to join the armed forces. We are a free country and I believe that is taking away our freedom. This way (pro) those who do join will give it there all and won't feel forced into it. They believe in the cause and others get to chose for themselves. A con to this choice is that we won't have as many people in the armed forces. To me, if I had to join the armed forces, I'd feel trapped. Instead of moving toward my goals in life, I would be somewhere I don't want to be. However, it would benifit me and the community because the armed forces makes people stronger. Also, we gain courage and protect those we love.

I believe that requiring all citizens to be in the army for a minimum of two years is pointless. The American people have rights for a reason; so that they can do whatever they want with their lives and not waist two years doing something that they may not want to do. In American we have the draft. This serves as our military back up today. I believe that that is all we really need. Unless a huge war broke out we wouldn't need many more soliders to begin with anyways. If this were required the U.S. would no doubt have a very strong and large army and I believe it would threaten other countries. Although this is highly unlikely it could happen. I believe that it should be a person's choice whether they want to serve in the army or not.

Aristotle believes that a citizen belongs not just to himself or herself, but to the state. I agree partially with this argument, but I do not think that that all citizens in the United States, male or female, should be required to serve two years in the armed forces after graduating High School. This is because after High School, most citizens have plans that would be wrecked if they were pushed back two additional years. For instance, I personally plan to go straight to college and begin studying for my career as soon as I am finished at Lakeland. If I had to serve two years in the armed forces, my life plans may get messed up. However, I do agree that the community would greatly benefit if more people joining the armed forces. One of the pros would be a stronger and much larger army representing the United States, but a con would be the fact that many people dreams would be pushed aside for them to be forced to join for two years. Overall I do not think that American citizens should be forced to join the armed forces, but I do think that it should be heavily encouraged and the people who choose to do so should be rewarded or positively compensated for their voluntary services.

For my current event I am going to have to discuss the recent increase prices in Michigan. While it seems as though gas prices are constantly fluctuating, recently there has been a 13 cent additional charge for consumers all across Michigan. Now, how does this directly affect me you ask? Well as a teenager, I am constantly driving around with my friends. We are always on the go from place to place. Gas is costing us more and more money, money that my friends and I rarely have. For instance, last Friday, I went to the after football party with all my friends. I did not have a ride home and was forced to ask Steve for a ride home. He drove right past my house on the way to take him and Nate home so it wasn’t a problem. Do to the raise in gas prices, Steve charged me 10 bucks to take me home. Obviously, the rise in gas prices has directly affected me.

I think that no, we should not have to serve two years in the armed forces after high school. When you graduate from high school it give you the freedom to pick what you want to go into. Is someone is trying to make you go into the army than that isn't right, you are your own person and no one can tell you what to do. If I was forced to go into the armed forces I would be pissed, no one is going to tell me what I can and can't do. After high school I want to go to OCC for two years and get my core classes out of th way so I can transfer to Baker and take a computer class and a Graphic design class and then try and start my own buisness. All this wouldn't be possible if I were forced to go risk my life serving in the milatary. The only pro to this would be giving jobs to those who don't one, and bring us out of the resetion.
