A current event would have to be the auto industry. The White House has made a deal that the federal government might loan some money to the Big Three (Ford, GM, and Chrysler)on December 15 and if the Federal Government doesn't feel that they are using the money wisely, they can recall by February 15. I feel that this sounds like a very good deal. I don't think that I could have made a better deal than this myself. I feel that they need help in order to stay within the United States rather than going overseas where it is a lot cheaper. But, I do not feel that it is going to happen. But, a deal like this sounds like a perfect way that they might be able to prove me wrong without having to waste lots of money.

I believe a huge social issue that the world is facing is self image because it affects how people live their lives based on how confident they are in themselves. We also believe in the 'what is beautiful is good' stereotype – an irrational but deep-seated belief that physically attractive people possess other desirable characteristics such as intelligence, competence, social skills, confidence – even moral virtue. But although we resemble our ancestors and other cultures in our concern about appearance, there is a difference in degree of concern. Advances in technology and in particular the rise of the mass media has caused normal concerns about how we look to become obsessions. The current media raises high expectations for both men and women to look a certain way that often times is unreachable for most people. What people see and how they react to their reflection in a mirror will vary according to: species, sex, age, ethnic group, sexual orientation, mood, eating disorders, ect. By 17, only 3 out of 10 girls have not been on a diet – up to 8 out of 10 will be unhappy with what they see in the mirror. It upsets me to see so many young men and women unhappy with the way that they look and feel about themselves because it is a road to no where. Being confident and positive is extremely important to being true to yourself and living life to its fullest potential. I hope that over time the standard made by the media is turned into a positive light so that more people can feel better about themselves. It would take a lot of help from school, family, and media to turn all of these misleading percetions to change the way things are right now. I think if more people start realzing their own true beauty of being uniquely themselves, is the most beautiful thing their is. :)

The current event i decided to talk about is Obama still wants the secretary of defence to stay on board for a nother year. I think this is an important issue because this might mean that we will be in Iraq longer. I feel that we should pull out of Iraq, we have helped a lot and should let the people living their handle it now. Iraq has developed a government and i feal that we should pull out. If Obama wants to keep the secretary of defence he might still want to continue fighting Iraq. We have lost enough soldeirs in the war we dont need to luse any more. I think Obama is a great leader, and a great president but still has some work to do.

The title of the article I chose is called Warrant: Teen Forced To Stay In Fireplace. It might sound kind of weird. A 16 year old boy escaped from a house on Monday. Detectives think he was forced to stay in a wood burning fireplace and endure violence such as strangulation with a belt. The police say that the boy looks much younger than his age. This is because of malnourishment and that his body was covered with soot, sores and scars. The kid said one of the suspects lighted the fireplace on purpose one night as he was chained there asleep, and he suffered a burn to his arm.Detectives also said that the teen told them he was forced to consume unknown pills, drink alcohol and smoke marijuana in order to keep him in a lethargic state. I think this shows what some people are like out there. Always be careful and be ready for people like this.

The topic I'm choosing is Barack Obama's choice in Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. I find his reasoning pretty contravercial. I'm personally wondering if he is just trying to be a good guy after beating Hillary in the presidential election. I remember quite a while back watching a press conference, Hillary and Barack disagreed on a lot of issues. I'm not sure if the government will function as well as it could with disagreements going on in the White House. Barack Obama hasn't really announced any good reasoning to put Hillary in this position, as far as I know. I'm personally hoping Hillary doesn't get this position.

My event is sports but i have a reason. Recently new york gaints wide reciver plaxico burress shot hisself in the leg at a manhattan night club. He is know being cahrged for carrying a un liscend gun. This is now bringing up discussions like do athlets carry weapons to feel safe? Even though you a proffesional athlete you should have to carry weapons to feel safe. I think they should feel more safe in there enviorment and shouldnt have to carry a gun to feel protected. Now plaxico burres has to miss the rest of the season and this could effect who he plays for next season.

I think than the biggest issue which involves the whole world is global warming. Within the last couple of decades, there had been a stagering increase in air polution. More developing countries are using fossil fuels now to keep up with the other more advanced countries. Air pollution is not just from vehicles, people often forget that factories are one of the biggest causes. Some countries dont even have regulations on how much contaminents they are putting into the air. This also causes the Ozone Layer to break down, which is a big problem considering that we cant replace it. The world needs to work together to achieve a goal far greater than ever before, if we dont I believe something catastrophic will happen.

A current event that has just happend was a fighter jet hitting a house. To people were killed today in San Diego when the jet fell from the sky. The jet was supose to land atth Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. After performing landing training on a Navy aircraft carrier. Two homes were destroyed when the jet his the ground.
I dont know what i would do if my family member died in something so crazy as this. I'm pretty sure that i would be put into shock. I just wanted to let the familys know that were affected by this that im really sorry. I hope it all works out for them.

A current event that I found was O.J Simpson was sentenced to serve at least 9 years in jail. He was sentenced last thursday. He stole from two sports memorabilia dealers inside a Las Vegas hotel room. I think he deserves to go to jail because of him allegidly killing his wife and her friend Ron Goldman. That happend almost 13 years ago. I think he probally did it and persuding the court to let him off because of his sports fame. It is ridiculous because he has so much money and couldnt stay quite. He's 61, he should just start to fade away. I guess what comes around goes around.

The current event I chose was the obama russian relations. This was that obama wants to reset U.S. and Russian relations. This would be in areas such as nuclear devises and on terrorism. Russias president also would wish to change the relations between the two countries. The Russian government expects the relations between the countries will improve with obama as our new president. The two countries had simular views in areas such as missile defense and nato for the future. This relation with Russia is very important to the U.S.

i choose to do my current event on the auto bailout. it's more of an update on the ongoing event. In Washington they think they have come close to a conclusion. there are rules that come with the bailout though. the new cars have to be fuel efficient. the car companies are expecting to get any where from 14 to 17 billion dollars. they where saying that by the end of the day today they will have an agreement. i am glad that they are coming to a conclusion. i think that it will help our economy. it will take a long time but it should be effective.

My current event is the U.S Big bank bail out. This is vary similar to the auto industry. But the only thing really similar is the fact that it's a bailout. The banks had resieved around 700 Billion dollars. But if the banks did not get there help, we would be in a bigger hole than we already are. Banks hold our savings and our money and such, if those banks go out of business we lose our money. Banks today are not making enough money therefore people are losing money and it's dragging down the economy with it. I think that is a super bad thing. If people have no money they don't have anything.

A currnet event that is important is the recent arrest and jailing of OJ Simpson. I think this is very important for a couple of reason. The first one being that he killed his wife and got away with it. This in my mind is not acceptable and if one person can get away with it then others will try to repeat it. Him going to jail is in its own way a way of showing that even though he got away with it the first time the police were still going to put him behind bars. Second it shows that no one is above the law. OJ has been involved in many criminal case and has escaped jail time on all of them (at least i think so). Now that he is going to jail this shows that even celeberties must follow the law and cant do and get away with whatever they want.

I decided to do my current event on the Bank Bail Out. The event talks about how the White house believe that they have finally made upa desicion. They are pretty sure about being able to give the auto companies their money. If they don't end up giving the money, the whole state of michigan could go under sota speak. It would effect many others business as well. They say that the suto companies could get emergency loans on December 15th but are still unsure about the bill. They have to come up with there fundemental shifts and they will go from there on the decision. Obama vocied support for the bail out being drafted in congress. All we can do now is wait and see the results.

one huge issue i think is facing the world today, is the credit crisis. the worlds economy is based on how much money consumers end with, and i dont think people realize, in order for someone to make money, that requires someone else to lose money. banks give out loans way too risky, and are facing the consequences of it. people all over the world are being affected by the economy, because "everyone should be treated equal". bullshit. people need to work for what they want. everyone has a sense of entitlement now that is wrong. the stock market reflects this. when stcks go down, people get pissed, and rightfully so. but the economy is great, because nothing is certain. people need to get real.

The Current event i would like to talk about is the new Malaria vaccine. Malaria is a deadly disease that kills over 1 million people a year and is a big problem for countries in africa. The vaccine is not yet perfect and only has a 50% succes rate but this is the best of its time so far. The researchers say that they will go into furthur studies into the next year. A nonprofit group has been doing studies on people in africa for a few years now and they now beleave that they are closer than ever. Malaria is a virus spread mainly in Africa through masquito bites and that is a big problem. With it so easily transmitted i am glad to see they are trying so hard to get a perfect cure. They say that they will continue their hard work into the future and hopfully find a cure as soon as 2011.

A current event that has had us all in shock for the past few months, is the huge drop in gas prices. For a while we never thought we would see the day that gas got under 3$ a gallon, but I guess that day ended up coming. It has beena huge break through, and al though gas prices are always going to be unsteady. I have high hopes that with Obama in office, they are going to stay down. This has been a huge issue for not only drivers around the world, but also familes around the world. When gas was up to its peak, families money supply was suffering greatly and a lot of sacrifices had to be made all over the country. With our economy being at an all-time low this past year, it is so great to finally see a turn around in something that can really help us all out so much. Drivers were starting to go into a panic and trying to drive as minimally as possible, but now that is not so much an issue anymore, and we can finally focus on the more important things that that can get our economy back on its feet again. Gas prices all over this country are always so unpredictable and driving past a gas station to see the prices is like walking on thin ice, you never know what to expect. But with gas this low, we can only expect the best and that it is just going to keep going down for our country!

droblebI believe that my largest and most home-hitting social issue is the current lack of separation of church and state. While hardly an aggregate of religious intolerance, I do feel that the nation has become too tolerant of religion inside the government. Phrases such as "In God We Trust" were placed on currency in 1954 under the rule of Sen. Joseph McCarthy to, in his words, "combat the Communists and their Godless policy". I do not share this view and firmly believe that we need to keep religion out of the government. Religion should be practiced at home, not state-sanctioned. In fact, under the Establishment Clause, no political or public institution may take a stance on religion one way or another and may not display any inclinations towards either. That's why I feel the way I do about the Pledge. I don't recite it and don't stand for it not because I'm not patriotic, but I don't believe that saying we like a flag and being forced to recite a line that I don't agree with is patriotic at all. I believe that religion has a place inside one's house and place of congregation. I've witnessed numerous trespasses by this school district on my rights and am truly angered by some of the things I've seen.

Unfortunately, it doesn't just happen here and I'm not the only one to feel this way, others feel the same and have done things about it. Like I said, I'm not against religion, I just don't like the idea of reciting a McCarthy-era phenomenon when i wholeheartedly do NOT agree with the policies and ideas of the time.

Im glad that the White house has decided to help the auto industry with the 15 billion dollar loan. If they wouldnt have went through with this bailout then the cost to the economy would have been greater then 15 billion. they maybe going to a vote on wednesday to decide whether they approve the loan or not. The government will assign someone to watch what the company does with the funds. the government wants eveyone to give something up including management and the union and creditors. They want to be sure they will not go out of business in a short period of time and not end up wasting the tax money. Obama is supporting a plan to help the auto makers.

I am choosing to base my blog on the current event that is Barack Obama's choice to have Hilary Clinton as his Secretary of State. Like Dan eluded to, Obama and Clinton disagree on many of our country's primary issues, as observed in their conferences and debates before Barack had sealed the nomination for the Democratic party. I do not quite know why Obama has chosen Mrs. Clinton as a member of his cabinet, much less such a high ranking one (based on the executive hierarchy) as the Secretary of State. I don't think that Obama would simply do this just to gain the support of people who were behind Hilary. I also do not believe that Obama would appoint her in order to gain a better reputation as a "good guy". In Obama's victory speech on November 5th, 2008, at roughly 12:15AM, the new president had mentioned that he would like to work with Senator McCain in order to form a more perfect union. This goes to show that Obama is willing to listen and possibly enact some of the ideal policies of others, even John McCain or Hilary Clinton. Perhaps this is why he has appointed her, to create a flux of ideas in the White House? Perhaps not, all I am aware of is that Mrs. Clinton is a very good politician, she's just not a very likable woman.

A current event that I found is if we should give the car loan to automakers so they don’t go out of businesses. 58 percent of Americans say that we should not give them the money. A solid plurality lays the blame for the auto company crisis squarely at the feet of management executives. In the other a majority 67 percent feels that the economy would be hurt by it. A lot of people would lose their jobs. 59 percent majority of Americans says they would not buy a car from a bankrupt auto company. I think they should give the loan so people don’t lose their jobs.
