This quote really made me think a lot. It's saying that when someone gives another person something, a special connection is formed. This could make the receiver feel important. It could also make the giver feel generous and satisfied. They say it is better to give than to receive. This quote gave me a little more clarity on that phrase. It means that the sense of satisfaction is greater than anything that can be given.

well this was a hard quote to think about. i think that deepak is trying to say that when someone gives a person a gift, they will become friends. the receiver feels important and excepted. the giver also feels important because he made the other person feel good about themselves. it's kind of like when you give someone a birthday present that they like, they feel good. i also agree with Dan that it doesn't just form a friendship. it forms a special connection. once i read dan's quote and saw that he wrote the saying it's better to give than receive, the quote also became easier to understand. this quote does now make complete sense to me. i do think it's an inspirational quote.

When a person gives some one a gift it's special. To some people it means a lot, to others not so much. When you give a gift to your wife or girl friend (vice versa) it means more. When you give a gift to some one like a friend it means somthing but not as much. Giving some one a gift is a way to connect because if you put enough thoulght into it you show that person you care. That is why I think it is important to give some one you care a lot about somthing special, somthing that means somthing to them. That is why I love this time of year, you get to give people gifts, and see your gift make them happy. Also you get to recive gifts and share bonds with different people you are close to.
You should always be getting more joy and glow when you are the one giving a gift, rather than the reciever. This quote kind of fits right in with the season coming up, Christmas! You know when you are getting a gift from someone, they put special thought into wat they think you would love to receive. So for that moment of recievin the gift, you know they were thinking of you some way to put a smile on your face. That connection is so special, because giving, or even recieving makes you feel so important in other peoples lives. Giving a gift puts so much glow in my heart to know that my time and my love going towards the reciever has paid off when they give you a huge smile showing they really appreciate it. The Sense of belonging is what we all long for the most in life, and it grows right from this very thing. Even if this quote s not specifically talking about the gift of giving gifts, maybe just the gift of giving period. Giving others as much as you can possible give is so important, it creates this sense of beloning and fitting in with others because you know you are so appreciated. Giving anything, not just gifs, maybe just your love or your listening, or even your advice creates this special connection and bond between two people.
At first this quote kind of gave me a hard time but i think it means that with two people doing kind things they both feel that they have somthing good in them. If you spend this holiday season going around gift shopping for youself many people may feel life out. If you go out and buy gifts for other people the joy is all the better. You get to see their faces when they open up the present and get somthing they would have never have had before. You cant get the joy of giving and make them feel like they belong somewhere if you dont give. Both of the people, the giver and the receiver, both live life a little brighter and that makes it worth living. So this holiday season go out and give out this joy to your family and friends, maybe even some kid you know wont get somthing nice, and why you do this your life will slowley get a little easier as you and that person both feel the sense of belonging.

Giving really does help people to connect to each other. The holidays are coming up and it is beginning to start giving presents. I believe this quote is trying to specialize the importance of giving. You give a gift to show a sense of appreciation for the person. And it makes you have a sense of belonging and importance. You have a feeling of being special for the reciving of the gift. It shows that you were thinking of that individual. In return you feel proud and grateful to give a gift.

People take care of people, that's the rule here. You can give without receiving something first. It's a sorta chain. That chain will connect everyone in a giving/receiving way. With that being said, that gives everyone a spot in the world and a sense of belonging. I think that it's important to keep this chain alive so everyone feels like they belong. Scratch that, everyone SHOULD belong.

It is better to give than to receive. If you give something you feel good about yourself. If you receive something than you feel thankful. This forms a connection. This kind of reminds me of around christmas time. It is better to give than to receive. Everybody takes that to heart most of the time that way everybody is giving and also receiving. This type thing makes people connect. This is like a chain and it will never end of your do it right.
Well, as the Guru Pitka would say, "Deepak? what's so special about Deepak? It's because he was on Oprah. See? Oprah and Chopra rhyme, that's why..." But, that's Mike Meyers, I on the other hand think otherwise. While Meyer's hard-line wit and succinctness--or, lack-of-there-of (another rhyme!)--explains in great detail the mundane and various minutiae that totally explain the true meaning behind this quote, I find it to be even more mystifying, ludicrous and off-the-wall than most other quotes. To me, honestly, this seems to be a bunch of mumbo-jumbo, especially after I just got done with staring and trig functions for the better part of the day, yet, I digress as I so often do. What I believe this quote centers on is the fact that giving makes both the giver and receiver happy. This feeling of happiness, in turn, makes both people feel like they belong in the world. While I personally don't identify with this as I feel getting a gift makes one indebted in some sort of messed up way to the giver, and I hate the feeling I get when I don't have anything for the person in return. You know, kinda that "oh... they must think I'm a cheap-ass" feeling. Yep, that's my some-what more-brief rant for tonight.
Giving connects two people, the giver and the receiver, and this connection gives birth to a new sense of belonging.
It think it means that giving connects two people. If someone gives another person a gift, that person will eventually like him. Whatever that gift may be, the person recieving the gift will be happy. There will be a sense of belonging. That connection will bring the giver and reviever back together. They will both be happy with each other. It feels good when you give gift's and also when you recieve them.
This is a very interesting quote. I believe this quote is saying that when you give someone something you and the other person feel good about it. When you give someone something you feel like you have done a good thing, made a difference and have made that person feel good. You feel very generous. On the other hand, the person who is recieving the gift is happy becuase they know that someome cares a lot about them. You are then a big part in their life and have made that person a lot happier then they were. This is a strong connection between two people because they are both getting something good out of it.

this raises the idea in my head of the other, similar saying "its better to give than to receive." in many ways is true. following with this quote, getting something from someone is easy. when it comes time to give someone something is tough. when you give, it requires putting at least a little amount of thought into the process. while gettng a gift wth meaning opens up a completely new relationship, a sense of worth and belonging. enough said.
Giving connects two people, the giver and the receiver, and this connection gives birth to a new sense of belonging.
There is a deifference between a giver and a receiver. The receiver is someone who has recieved a gift or something. A giver is the person who gives something to reciever. I personaly believe its best to be both. You should give something to recieve something. Like when you work hard for something you should recieve the skill or aword for you effort.
But you shouldnt be selffish by only being a reciever and expect eveything to be given to you. When the qoute states " birth to a new sense of belonging" i think it meand is if you work hard and receive what you have worked for will give you the feeling you have done it. You have acceaved you gole. So dont expect things to be handed to you. ITs better to work hard and earn it for yourself.
I must say that I can't relate to this saying by Chopra at all, rather I can't decipher a meaning from it. I'll try, though.
I think that Chopra is noting that giving and receiving are, though on two opposite ends of a spectrum, cross-canceling in that the giver and receiver meet in the very middle, thus creating neutrality, and also a bond. This bond, however, may be quite strong or weak. I think that this depends on exactly what you give the person. As Americans, we enjoy getting good gifts. We enjoy giving good gifts to others and we enjoy receiving good gifts. If, say, on Christmas morning you open a present that wasn't what you had hoped for, or even something you didn't want at all, then you often feign gratitude and give a half-assed, un-hearty "thank you" to the person that gave the gift. Surely, the giver picks up on this and as such the sense of belonging that each individual in the exchange feels is not very strong. However, if you were to open a gift that was at the top of your wish list, then your optimism is obvious and as such the giver feels a sense of delight in that they got you this gift. Thus, the bond created between the exchange is rather strong.
It is important to always aspire to be the kind and joyful giver in life. The connection between the giver and the reciver makes a bond between them that concentrates on trust and love. For example, whenever I give, I make sure then it is never because I have to give becuase to me that is just wrong. I give because deep down in the goodness of my heart I really do want to give. I believe that this makes the gift so much more beautiful because it is so real. The sense of belonging that both people feel wether it's giving or recieving, is refreshing and rare in life I think. I love the feeling of when you give someone a gift and the glow they have on their face, just says how they feel so loved and accepted. This is what makes it worth it all.
