Day 17

Again, my thanks to those who handed in their rough drafts. I am honestly shocked that I did not have people lined up at my desk after class asking what to do if their rough draft was missing. This is very disheartening to me and I am going to assume your parents when they find out that you may fail due to not completing your work.

Please respond to the following:

“Never neglect the little things. Never skimp on that extra effort, that additional few minutes, that soft word of praise or thanks, that delivery of the very best that you can do. It does not matter what others think, it is of prime importance, however, what you think about you. You can never do your best, which should always be your trademark, if you are cutting corners and shirking responsibilities. You are special. Act it. Never neglect the little things.”

quite simply, never stop short of your best. you are the largest beneficiary of your own work. completing a task to the best of your ability gives you self fulfillment, and pride. anybody can copy another's work, but it takes skill and ability to do it yourself. there is always something that can be improved upon, and improvement is never a bad thing. it also brings up the old adage "you're only lying to yourself". meaning only you can be the true judge of your own work. never try to impress others, only work to satisfy yourself.

This is saying you should always give it your all. You shouldnt just do that little effort to get by. You should go further than that and go beyond. Most people dont though they just do that little bit. If everyone in life went above and beyond in there jobs maybe things would be different. If your not gunna give it you full effort than why do it at all. So thats my opinon go to your maximun potential at all times.

This quote is saying that you shouldn't ignore that little things. You shouldn't refuse to give the additional effort that delivers the very best that you can do. It doesn't matter what others do, but of what you think about yourself. Everyone is speical. You should act different from any other person out their. Therefore, if everyone is skipping an assignment, you should do your very best effort to do the assignment anyways and be yourself, not everyone else!

To me this is saying never give up. Never sell your self short because maybe one day by pushing yourself you will accomplish something great. Or Maybe it means never look over the little things because the little things are what truly make up the big picture. You shouldn’t care about what others think about what you are doing as long as you know you are doing your best. Everyone has different abbilitys. Some peoples are just greater then others. So never cut your self short because one day all that pushing and extra time will pay off.

I can say i was very proud of myself today when i had my rough draft in and half the class didn't. I think that this is saying not to blow off the little things. There is a snowball effect with it. People not doing little thing will build up and effect them. This also has a second message, always try and push yourself. People simply don't do this. I think this is sad because you will always end of up with less than your best. Even id you do push yourself, you will probably never end of with the best so it sucks in the end, but the least people could do it try.

This quote is saying do your best always. You can't can't cut your responsiblilties short. It only hurts you when you give up. You are only cheating yourself if you give up. The extra effort and time you up in to something, the more you get out of it. You will improve and do so much better. I believe you should always do your best and take your actions seriously. This quote is really representing how much you should get out of life. Life each day to it's fullest and always do your best.

Never neglect the little things is saying that the little things can do good for you. The extra effort can also make any thing look good and that it will help no matter what. What others think doesnt effect how you live your life it is how you think about yourself which pushes you to acomplish your goals. You can always do better no matter how much you do there is always something you can do to make what ever you are doing better. So if you do an essay and when you are finished check it over or have others read it to see if it can be improved. The little things will help you no matter what it is that you are doing. The litte things could include doing more than just your homework do other things to improve your grades. Even do extra chores the little thing can never hurt you only improve things for you.

This quote is saying that you should never give any less then your best. You should always want to do your tasks to your best ability and not slack of or give up. When you give all you have you will feel better about yourself. You will feel great knowing that you've achieved something. Giving the extra time and effort will show a lot in your finished product. It will make you proud of yourself and others will look greatly upon you. You should always give your full effort no matter what you do.

I think the quote mean you shouldn't keep over little things it could add up to something big. If you have a B+ and you don’t do the extra credit you might not get an A you wanted. Little things could make big differences. Even saying thanks could make someone happy. That is showing that you are polite. You shouldn't care what others think because they might not have any friends if they aren’t nice. So don’t let them try to make you feel bad. Do what you think is right not what others think.

This quote is trying to emphasize the fact that you need to always live out your life to its absolute fullest potential possible. Don't ever cheat yourself out of giving anything but your best. This quote is truely inspirationaly and it really makes you think about how much further you would be if you never ever cheated or never cut yourself short of anything. We need to stop caring so much of what othes around us are doing or thinking, but just pay attention to the growth that could be taking place in our lives. You are never going to excell in anything you do if you don't give it your all. The most beneficial thing you can do is to have the mind set that good is never good enough, but that your best is always what you should be aiming for. Every single one of us has some special place in this world, and a very important purpose, so we must give it our all, and never sell ourselves short even if we feel as though we cannot make it any further. So many adolescants these days seem to have that in the back of their minds, they set themselves up for failure before they even begin. You can never go into a situation expecting to fail, you have to always go into it expecting the best and more out of it. Keep pushing yourself, and eventually you will be exactly where you want to!

I think this means that the littliest things in life are very important. Like saying thanks could mean the world to someone. Don't neglect the little things. Also, I think its saying that you always need to do your best. Have no regrets. You shouldn't just work to make other people happy. Be happy and work for yourself. Sometimes the little things make the diffrence. Like in football, every yard counts.

Lately, I've been practically living by this quote. I've been having to give that extra effort to keep my grades where I want them, for example. I try not to let what other people think bother me, either. The self-satisfaction you get out of giving extra effort makes it all worthwhile. I think the phrase "you can never do your best" is somewhat motivating. It puts me in the mindset that the quality of my actions now could always be improved upon. I believe anyone could benefit off giving this quote a try.

this quote is really saying put forth your best effort. don't slack you won't be as successful. if you just do the bare minimum in life that's all you'll get in return. if you put forth your best effort you will be successful. even if others think that you are a goody goody who cares. it doesn't matter what they think. do your best and you will succeed.

This quote is saying that the little things matters. If you don't do the little things you will never get where you want to get. The little things are important because it adds up and it makes a huge difference. If you are always cutting corners you will never reach your potential of what you can actually become. Most people just do barely what they have to do. To get better you have to push yourself and try to go beyond what you think you can do. Don't do the minimum, you should always try to do the maximum. Always try your hardest and do the little things so you have no regrets.

Little things in life can make all the difference. They are the small things like picking up that book that kid just droped or adding an extra paragraph to an essay to spice it up. These little things may be small but can go a long way in your life. If you take time out of your "busy HS" life and go out and do something like the Pre act/sat you are viewed as someone who wants a better future. Colleges will look at this and say "wow, this kid wants it that bad" over the kids who sit home and waiste thier life. You should always do your best to acomplish these objectives. They are what makes the world a better brighter place. Do yourself some good and take advantages of the littler, simple things.

This quote is saying to always put forth your 110% no matter who's watching or what praise you get. Right away this quote reminds me of another quote that I apsire and live my life by which is a quote by Mother Thersa. The quote is "People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered; Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; Be kind anyway. If you are successful you will win some false friends and true enemies; Succeed anyway. If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; Be honest and frank anyway. What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; Build anyway. If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; Be happy anyway. The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; Do good anyway. Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; Give the world the best you've got anyway You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God; It was never between you and them anyway." Although this quote relates more to the aspect of doing the little things regaurding your relationship between God and what is morally right, I think it is the same concept. I see people around me all the time, especially at school, cutting the corners. For example, everyday I see people copying work, not doing homework, and just sitting their and doing absolutely nothing in class. Not only is it obnixous, it is also disrespectful to yourself, and the teacher. In life in all cases, I have learned it is important to always be the bigger person. To know matter what, know what is the right thing to do in your heart, and act upon it.

I find that I do neglect the little things. Thats sad, I dont take the time to do a little extra. I never thought of it that way, alot of little things add up to something you couldnt imagine. If you dont take the time to do all you can by the end of the day you should feel horrible. I know I feel bad thinking about the things that I should of done but didnt. The smallest things truely make the difference. People should realize that doing something extra could mean a whole lot to someone else. If you dont give it all you got, what did you give? After reading this, it really changed my perspective of how the little things effect your life.

just never stop, keep going. give it your all and push as hard as u can go. when your at 100% give it that extra lil 10%. going your hardest and never quiting makes you a stronger individual. cutting corners only herts your self, go the distance. the distance might hurt but at the end the reaword is worth all tha hard work and determination. that is what this qout means to me and tells me.

Another >>>*HINT!!!HINT*<<< type-of quote! Yet, in its eloquencen (or lack thereof, depending on how you see it), it does prove a valid point. Nobody gets anywhere without doing sometin', be it their responsibilities or otherwise. You benefit from you. Again; shit in, shit out, and no matter how you say it, or ow often you say it, it proves itself to be quite poignant when you least expect it to. It also bring us a point about vanity, and self-image as well. That piece-of-the-pie is about how you are the ultimate influence on how you act, based on how self-deprecating you are. Now, while that's true, we shouldn't all let our egos run amok, becasue then humanity you be Homo asswipe, not sapien. Occult's Razor being as dear to me as it is, unfortunately fails to illicit a decent description. So, I shall now digress...

I think that the reason people decide not to do the little things, (read as "put forth 120%+") is because it's situation resembling that of Buridan's Ass. One stack of hay being getting good grades, the other stack relaxing a little longer. Both are equally appitising, and when stuck in that situation, most simply do nothing. To get to such a conclusion, let us dabble into mathematics.

Assume that the act of nothing equals (x-x), event 1 equals x and event 2 equals (x+x):

so, (x-x)x=x^2-x^2=0
(x-x)(x+x)=x^2-x^2=0
hence:
(x-x)x=(x-x)(x+x)
dividing by x-x gives:
x=x+x
and dividing by x:
x=(x+x) or 1=2

This simple equation leads to the conclusion that the Buridian's Ass situation is ture, and that's the paradox most students are stuck in when faced with such a dilemma.

Now, I feel I have digressed enough and leave you all with a puzzle:

can 0.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999... equal 1?

I think this quote is saying to always give your all. No matter how tough it gets you can not give up. You can't always take the easy way out just to get by. Some times you have to work hard to get something done. It will not allways be easy but after you are done you will feel good you just didn't take the easy way out just to get something done. Sometimes you might take the easy way out or a short cut but this way will not help you in the long run. This what I think the quote means to me.

Stefan, I generally enjoy reading your blogs. But that little mathematical equation just proved your apparent bigotry to the people who wouldn't have spent the time to come up with that, thus disproving the point of this blog, as you did that something extra that we did not. Maybe we lack the mental capacity to do so, or maybe we don't need to enter an irrelevant mathematical equation into a blog which most of us do just to receive points.

This brings me to my point: the little things in life are great, and doing those extra little things are nice, but are they necessary? No. Hey, they might add up and they may bring good things, but if you are comfortable just getting by, or perhaps on a larger scale living paycheck to paycheck, then so be it; the little things in life are not for you. There are overachievers and underachievers, I do not think that there are just 'achievers'. The majority of us are underachievers, doing the bare minimum to get by so that we have that little extra time of leisure and relaxation.

"You are special. Act it."

I generally, when it comes to things that I do not care much about or do not wish to spend much of my free time on, do the bare minimum to get by; if I am to receive full credit on an assignment by simply doing the bare minimum, then by golly I'll do the bare minimum. If I have to actually put forth some effort into what I'm doing to receive a better grade, then I will do my damnedest to get that better grade (hence why I like that fact that you are a "difficult grader", Mr. Kay, in contrast to many other teachers about the school). This does not mean that I am any less or more special than I could, would, or should be; this simply means that I am feeling uninspired and lazy. This "specialty" statement may ring true for others, but I just do not see how doing the bare minimum to get by, or not doing the little things, makes any one any less special than they already are.

"It does not matter what others think. . ."

I disagree. What others think of you can change the way you act, think, or do entirely. If someone sees you doing something peculiar in class, and they make fun of it, then chances are you won't do that peculiar thing any more. I've been there, and I'm sure most of us have. Sure, what others think about you SHOULDN'T matter, but it does. Stereotypical, judgmental people exist all about us, and they express their judgmental negativity onto us (much like the quote from last week about attitudes and their contagiousness).

Yes, the little things are nice.
No, the little things are not necessary to achieve greatness, respect, "specialty", reward, or anything of the sort. Live comfortably, and that is special enough.

wow this is a very long and confusing quote. to me it can be simplified into one short sentance. always do your best. as long as you do your best then you wont have any regrets. if you do your best then you can go farther in life. true, sometimes you may get lucky and be able to slack and still go far. but on the other hand you wont be able to go as far or get as much satisfaction out of it. you should always do your best no matter how hard or easy the thing is

This quote certainly is a good quote to put on this. This quote mean to me that you should always try to show your best no matter what. It shows that showing extra effort can go the extra mile to get you further in life. It makes sence that you should always go all out. If you were in a track race and you knew that in the begining you could win one million dollars you would try like there was no tomorrow. You should always try your best to get as far as you can in life.
