Well, at least this is a short week. Make sure that you have read chapters 1-3 of Things Fall Apart.
For this evening, pick another current event and comment on it. You may not pick the same as you did last week. I thought that people's comments about the current events were great and we will be doing this on a regular basis (once a week). Remember to tell me what you know if the topic, what is going on with the topic, and yoru opinion of the importance of the topic. Also, site your source for your topic. No Site, No points.

I'm going to go a little more in-depth on my research project; the war in Darfur. This is a brutal civil war throughout the Darfur region of Sudan. It has been ongoing since February of 2003. The war is basically due to some Sudanese citizens traveling into regions where they are not welcome and using the resources. The civil war broke out between different regions of Sudan, mainly in Darfur. I believe this is one of the most terrible regions of the world today, and it must be addressed more so than it is now. Foreign help is given, but not enough to solve this civil war.

A huge social issue that in going on all over the world is Divorce and will continue to be an enormous problem until people finally start realzing the magnitude of this. I don't think most people wake up the morning of their wedding thinking "I am going to be part of the 50% of marriages that end up in divorce." I believe most people go into marriage with an idea of strong hope, love, and belief that they have a bond with another individual that is so strong, that can outstand the test of time...which is exactly how it should be. In many cases, this is not how it is becasue people do not realize how serious marriage really is. I think that a large reason why younger people, for example, keep getting married younger and younger because they know they can have second, third, and fourth chances to marry someone else if they really do want to. I can understand, yes, there are serious reasons why people do need to get divorced, things like abuse, and adultury. But for the most part it's just people giving up and throwing in the towell on the love that they had once found in their partner. Yes, people change and they grow apart, but that's life. Choosing to get married means that you are committed for life, and that you promised to love them through the bad times as well as the easy times. Divorce not only seperates husband and wife, but also the family and friends that surround them and is a terrible thing. To help Divorce rates to be lower the obivious answer is education before marriage and counseling. I think it is extremely important to be educated and prepared before making the life altering decision to get married and be completely devoted to one person the rest of your life. I think marriage is one of the most beautiful things in life, and that is often taken for granted.

For to night i will be going more in-depth about the bail out. All of the banks are going bankrupt, and the government is feeding them money to try to keep them alive. Some people think its not going to work because of the pore economy. Also the CEO's are taking huge amounts of money and taking big vacations. The CEO's dont care about the banks going bankrupt. They are not using the money in a responcible manner.
A big current event is the war on Iraq. We went into this war because they might have weapons of mass destruction, but they didn't even have proof! I think that it was right to try to spread democracy, but I think that if they weren't willing to take the offer to get help switching, that we shouldn't have forced them into changing. Especially if it involved war! I do believe that Suddam Hussein didn't give human rights to all his people. I feel that someone needed to get in there and do what we did, but actually try to do it in the most peaceful way that could be done.
I think the war in iraq is an important curretn event. This war has been going on for many years and so fare we have done little to none. The one thing we have done is taken sudam husane out an killed him that has helped a little. This war is some what because of terrorism and the need to stop it. Many soldiers die every day and this war is pointless and something needs to happen soon. Our soldiers need to help train iraq soldiers so they can take over and we leave. This is a pointless war and something needs to be done soon. I got my info from http://www.answers.com/topic/iraq-war-3.
I belive that forced millitary service on children is a horrific choice for governments to make. This happens because of high recruitment levels which need to be met by recruiters. Several regions in Africa choose to create youngetrained army forces. They train them in weapons use and how not to be affraid of anything. Some of these countries include Napal, Chad, Burma, Sri Lanka, and many others. The children are targeted because they are easy to scare, and are also threatened to death. Any child would comply when threatened to death. Alot of families choose to give up their children do to government pressure. I truely think that this is a taboo that shouldnt be accepted in countries ravaged by war just because all of their troops got massacred in a war started by a greedy goverment.

I believe killing an innocent human embryo is wrong. Abortion is doing that, killing innocent people. Just think that what if that embryo your killing could be the next einstien or something. In some certain situations abortion is ok. I think im 50/50 on this topic. But then again it really isn't. It would be ok if the women was raped, but other than that its not right. Other than being raped, its not anyones fault but the womens. I guess you have be put in those shoes to relize the situation.

A current event our country is faced with currently is abortion. Aportion in my eyes yes is a females choice but i believe it is loyaly wrong. You are killing an inocent life that cant do a thing to protect its self. Look if someone took a gun to your head you would do anything and everything you could to stop it however if you were in the womb you would have a choice at all. I think we should also remember that there is always adoption so if you dont want it for some reason have it and give it to someone elce to enjoy but not abortion. I think alot these days people are too busy to think of them selfs and dont even take a second to look at the other hand. I do think the only reason abortion would be okay if the women were raped but even with that you are still killing an inocent life.

The current event I picked is about obesity. The article is called "Should obese fliers get extra free seat". It is talking about how if a person is obese and they fly somewhere on an airplane, should they be able to take up two seats. It is also talking about if the airlines can charge a passenger extra for taking up and extra seat. You thing that would make sense. The ruling last week said that airlines in Canada can no longer charge an obese passenger extra for an additional seat. This isnt just for obese people but for disabled people as well. Air Canada will lose about 5.6 million dollars a rule becuase you cant charge extra. This is only for Canada, U.S is not required to follow the same regulations. http://caffertyfile.blogs.cnn.com/2008/11/24/should-obese-fliers-get-extra-free-seat/
i think a huge social issue is the war in iraq. this war has caused many problem. the war has been going on for 5 years now. it's such a big issue it is talked about world wide. one of the biggest talks is about when will it end. i personally don't think it will end any time soon. that shouldn't stop you for having your opinion though. i do hope it stops soon it's not helping our down fall in the economy at all. if anything i think it has made our economy worse. ever since the war our economy has been going down hill.

One huge current event, that is not only current but also very much in the past, and probablly will carry with us to the future is the issue of racism. As much as this isue is swept under the rug, and sort of happening behing closed doors, it is still happening, and as much as we choose to believe that or not, it needs to be dealt with. More than anything, it is important to keep in perspective that some peoples views on the world, and different races will never change, as much as we try to emphasize that "every human being was created equally," it is just not going to be take into consideration by everyone in this world. So the only thing we can do is really just educate on it and pray to God that these people will keep there beliefs to themselves, and try as best they can to create every person, whatever color they are, gender, age whatever all the same. Especially we have seen it more and more with the recent election of our first African American, Obama! People who are racist towards African Americans can feel as angrily as they want about his winning, but acting racist towards others because of it is not going to solve anything for them, Obama will still be our president, and he will still be the one running ths counbtry if they like it or not. White people, even when they don't realize it or maybe aren't even racist at all, tend to unconciously put themselves on a pedastool compared to African Americans and think they are inferior to them, when in reality, we are all the same and no one of any other race should feel lessened because of the color of their skin and, yes racism is always going to play some role in this world, but we can do our best to enforce the idea of equality over racism.

I thnik that a big current issue is the job market. We are in a day in time where we all probley know someone that has lost their job. Most of michigan had relied on the auto industry, and now unless they can come up with a miracle that whole industry could be gone. Think of all the jobs that we will loose before the holidays hit. Imagine how many kids, families, even your own that may suffer due to this. The job market in the united states is reaching a record low close to that of the Great Depression. If we do not go out and solve this issue soon the united states may be crippled, opening up pores for the rest of the world to get its hands on us.

one thing that i find as a social issue, and i wont have a source for this because this is my theory and opinion, is the constant need for political correctness, and arrogance of people. first of all, political correctness is one of my largest pet peves, it also is one of the most ironic, and hipocritical things out there. think about it; black people are not black, thay are "african americans". well than why am i not called a european american? why do they have the right to call me white? also, when someone says something, someone always manages to find it offensive in some way, like the word weird. my aunt and uncle literally lectured me on how to not say that word when i encountered something i found unusual, that pissed me off. finally, arrogance of people, is my second largest pet peve. i hate it when people only look at ne side of he event, instead of taking in all views. every veiwpoint is valuable in its own right, there is no need for the arrogance, and entitlement people feel. especially when people speak about things, such as the american economy, shipping jobs overseas, or how ceo's get treated. you must understand; ceo's get what they do, because they carry a huge task; managing a huge company, in many cases, around the world. ceo's deserve what they get. they worked for it. im sure if anyone i knew did what they did, they would think the same way. jobs bring with them risk and responsibility, and along with that responsibility comes reward. you cant tell me that if you made millions upon millions of dolars, you wouldnt live in a mansion, buy fancy cars, buy expensive jewlery ect. so dont act like ceo's "showing up in their private jets" is such an outrage. arrogance and political correctness really bother me in america, and it must be altered.
The topic i chose to talk is about racism in the job factors for women. It has been around for many years and hopefully is declining. There has been so many oppurtunities where women have not recived the same respect job as men. We don't have as many oppurtunities as men have. There is also a huge wage gap between male and female. Male's will make more then us and viewed by the insurance agents as more important then us. We are discriminated against because of stereotyping and misguided preconceptions of are roles. This huge gap in jobs needs to change. It is completly unfair and they need to pass more laws of equalness.

HAH! You misspelled "your!" Also, I LOOKED. There isn't anything misspelled aside from "colour", which is how I've always spelled that word. If you thought it was "freakin'" misspelled, then I'm off the hook because I added an apostrophe which makes the slang-term acceptable. HA again!
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Now, one of the biggest current-issues that really provokes a reaction in my being is the continued existence of the Westboro Baptist "Church". Firstly, I must re-iterate that I am not patriotic, I'm hardly religious, and I think that society needs to go hang for all the good its done and for how "far" its come. Having said that, I feel that it is now necessary to bandy words around why they are still allowed to exist, the limits of freedom of worship and the distinction between religious belief and hatred.
Westboro, which I have mentioned in posts earlier in the year, are a so-called branch of what is known as Christian-Baptist. As Christians are the largest group in the world, (not that I did not say the people with the best morals,) it does make sense in an offhand way that they be Christian. Now, to begin; I was raised Christian, not born. No one is born Christian, Jewish, Muslim or otherwise. Children are born not believing in any god, and their parents raise them into a particular belief system. Anyways, as I said, I was raised Christian, meaning, while I don't subscribe to it anymore, I can still quote scripture out my ass, I still remember the commandments, and I still know all the traditions and practices associated with the Roman-Catholic sect. Thus, I am quite qualified to make this analysis as I am aware of most of the mainstream European Christian practices, edicts, rhetoric, beliefs and what few documents we were allowed to see by the Papacy.
Again, Westboro. The church was formed by Mr. Fred Phelps in the 1950s. They are essentially a anti-American, -homosexual, and -anyone-but-them cult. They are in no way, near what traditional Baptists of Christians are supposed to believe. Unfortunately, however, they have about 700 members currently up from the 100 they had since Sept. 11, 2001. The operate under the sensationalist slogan that "God hates fags," which to them means, gays, lesbians, US soldiers, US politicians, pro-gay activists, people who shop at places which employ gay people, people who shop/work at places in which gay people are allowed, schools which allow gay students, authors who write about gays, people who watch television shows with gay characters or anything pro-gay; you get the picture. Now, one may ask why I would care. I started caring about two years ago, when my uncle's buddy and my good friend was found KIA in Iraq. We went to the service in Michigan and found them there, picketing. This is how they protest what they call "America's acceptance of gays". They picket soldiers' funerals, and schools with gay students and clubs for them. I'm shocked they haven't found out about Lakeland and the GSA yet. Also, while I'm not gay myself, I do know a lot of people who are and many of them are good friends. and I don't care about where they like it or what they like. When they get their dream guy/girl I'm just as happy for them as I would be when I find Ms. Right.
Back to Westboro. They are allowed to do all this mainly because of the Bill of RIghts, which allows for freedom of worship/lack of worship. I think, while this is a wonderful amendment, it should have limits. If someone's god told them to kill all the people in a mall, would we allow "god told me" as an excuse? Or, what about Wahahbi Muslims? Why don't we leave them alone when they bomb buildings, they have freedom of worship under the UN Charter, and god told them too. Who are we to intervene? You get my drift. There's a difference between what is belief and what is an excuse. What the WBC stands for is libelous, lewd, crude, despicable, demoralizing, debasing, disgusting and utterly deplorable. There needs to be limits on what is called religion and what is libel/and excuse for hate-groups.
I think that this needs to be a top issue. Like I said, while I'm hardly patriotic or religious, this still disgusts me and leads me to the inescapable conclusion that the human race is too immature for peace, because we are ready to allow things like this to happen within the "most-accepting" country in the world.

I'm going to go out on a limb here on my issue and I'm going to say Gay marriage. I'm personal not for it and find it extremely wrong. Guys + Girls do the math haha. But it the last voting season there was a huge controversy over gay marriage. I don't support it, but it shouldn't be illegal either. There was actually people trying to ban it, and this totally boggles me cause arnt most of the gay people in that state? I don't know if that's just a guise or what, i might just be ignorant. But this issue has the ability to tear people apart, even family's, I think it;s totally insane. It's another life style that has to be accepted by the general public just like any other race. That's really were i don't cross the line on the whole thing. But in all thats what i think of this subject. I just posted my site down there and uhhh yea.
good night
I'm not coming to school.

Today almost everyone has some type of pet they care for. this pet could range anywhere between the average dog and cat all the way to pythons and parrets. Over the last couple years you may have seen commercials or newspaper articles such as the famous ASPCA commercial with the sad song playing in the background, yeah everyone knows that commercial. What that commercial is discussing is not a new problem. Animal cruelty and abuse has been going on since man became arrogent enough to try to master everything it came into contact with. As i am typing this blog there arethousnads of pets out there right now that are being severly beaten, starved, left alone and i hate to say but i bet that many will die as well. I think the Mike Vick convition was one of the biggest steps ever taken to mainstream these disgusting acts of cruelty. Because of his trial everyone is starting to become more aware of animal cruelty. I dare any one of you to google pictures on dog fighting or animal abuse and sit there and look at those pictures and then picture that being you pet. If any of can possibly sit there and not be phased by that at all then your cold heartless people. The first step in ending this is knowledge but knowing about it isnt going to help us stop it. all it will do is motivate us to do something about it. i think the next thing that would have to be done is put more funding and more donations towards relief organizations and animal poliece who devote there lives to saving these precious animals. Dogs fights, cock fights, beating, starving, and neglecting animals that you purchesed is rediculous and if that is how you are going to treat it then you dont deserve to have it in your care. i think they should make stricter laws and bigger penelties for those who get cought would have to suffer the way they made those animals suffer and at least some animals would get away with a happy life. now i am not disregarding the standard tap on the nose for when your dog is bad. the tap is fine its the punches and everything that comes with it thats not. now mr. kay i know that you want a source to come along with this but i didnt use a source because this should be something that everyone should know about and if they dont then they are just plain ignorant. but for the sake of the points my source would have to be the ASPCA commercial because judging by how much time people spend in front of the tv im betting thats how most people know what im talking about.

I like our new president Obama, ever since he has been our president our gas price has stayed down. We are now using our own oil for gas. Which I think we should have down in the first place instead of making the price go way up. We can actually not worry about not having enough money for gas. I think he is going to be a good president because he is going to make everything go back to normal. I don’t think he is going to keep giving money to help out Iraq. He might actually change our country in a good way.

Bailing out big financial companies is a big problem right now. The US government is using taxpayer money to rescue banks and financial companies from going out of business. Its a problem because no matter what is done, the problem wont be solved. If they dont help these companies then many people will be out of jobs and many poeple will lose value of 401k and investments. On the other hand if we help these companies then in a year from now they could be in the same spot they are now. They may make bad decisions with the money because theres no one watching over what theyre doing with the money. I dont think the government has a choice right now but they shuold also be helping automotive companies while they are helping financial companies and banks because if auto companies go out of business then even more people will be out of a job.

i think that a problem going on in the world is water sortage and global worming.
there are so many ways to help prevent these national dezasters.
the question is how do we get people to pertisapat in making a difference.
"According to the World Bank and World Health Organization, 2 billion people lack access to clean water and 1 billion people do not have enough to even meet their daily needs."
with out clean water people are dieing.
also from people drinking unclean water they are being poisend by deadly cemicals in the water. But its not only effecting the humans its also effecting animals and plats.
so lets see you make a differece. because u never know when its going to be your water next.
